I can't post a photo!!!!!! I am legendarily territorial about my somewhat unusual mug so at least 250 people know that it is mine and could be one of you!!!!

Gah! About to suck remains of tea through a biro straw - thanks Winky

I'm going to try and prize it off as one side should be less stuck down. If that fails, I will have to go into town and buy nail varnish remover. Does that definitely work? Will I take all the laminate stuff off the desk as well?

Acetone will unstick the cup by dissolving the glue. Nail polish remover that contains acetone will work too. I had a coworker who asked me to hold her glasses while she tried to superglue them together again. She accidentally got superglue on my finger and I somehow got my finger stuck to my other finger. Acetone freed me.

LittleButStillLoud · 01/02/2019 13:58

Hahaha this has made me laugh! No advice to offer, but I love the mental image Grin

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 01/02/2019 13:58

Hahaha

Made me laugh that . Thanks OP , needed that
It was the "making inrods with a spoon" that put me over the edge . Something I so would do as well Grin

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/02/2019 13:59

Love your username BTW!

You’ve got to get the tea out first. I’m guessing the hot tea melted the superglue.

I think once the tea is out you may have more luck with the mug.

What about a desert spoon? Might be faster.

MargoLovebutter · 01/02/2019 13:59

Wanderings where do you work that you have a flat screwdriver handy? I've just rifled through the kitchen drawers and can't even find a knife, as its after lunchtime. I'm heading down to stationery to see if there is one of those letter opener things.

Nincompoop is my favourite of all the words Grin

Try twisting it backwards and forwards.

Jamhandprints · 01/02/2019 14:01

Hot water should do it. Superglue's not that strong really. At least it wasn't your hand!

Nicpem1982 · 01/02/2019 14:01

Grin this has made me howl

taybert · 01/02/2019 14:01

Has anyone suggested a fish slice and some sex lube yet?

MargoLovebutter · 01/02/2019 14:07

Ok, I'm starting to realise how poorly equipped our office is for these kind of emergencies.

No letter opener thing in stationery. Was grilled by office manager as to why after nearly a decade in the office I suddenly wanted one. Had to resort to tinkly laugh, as on the spot couldn't come up with any reasonable answer.

As only 20% of staff made it through the snowy wastes (or our largely urban area?) today, I roamed around and stole a letter opener thing - BUT it is too fat to get under the bottom edge of the mug. FFS!

Am now going to try hot water, although I'm wondering how much is required and whether or not I have to take nearly a decade worth of crap off my desk!!!!

My suggestion was going to be a biro straw, so glad you are getting it there. It would be awful still drinking cold tea with a teaspoon.

Definitely try taybert's suggestion first!

If not and you are in an office, try the ruler and raid the kitchen.

If you don't have nail varnish remover anyone (although you may have to explain to colleagues why you want to borrow it), apparently lemon juice and also salt can work (add salt, wet and rub). Not tried those two though, but may have more luck finding those in the office than a fish slice and sex lube (depending on the office).

userschmoozer · 01/02/2019 14:11

Anything you use to dissolve the glue will also damage the desk. Go on, ask me how I know Grin

Smack the mug sideways with something heavy.

CornishMaid1 · 01/02/2019 14:11

How about just leaving the mug there, get a new mug for tea and turn the current one into a pen holder for your biro straw.

No-one ever needs to know until you move to a new job or retire and they wonder why your mug is still there

coppercolouredtop · 01/02/2019 14:13

Grinplace marking
Sorry
Op no help at all but this is very entertaining.

MargoLovebutter · 01/02/2019 14:16

Oh god, this is not good. I now have second mug of hot water and am dribbling it on to the area around my mug but it doesn't appear to be working. Surely hot water can't work? I've superglued crockery before and it doesn't melt in the dishwasher.

CornishMaid1 the mug is right in the middle of my desk in front of my keyboard - it cannot stay there!!!! I've moved things for now to do the water treatment, but I can't move everything permanently. I'd appear even more eccentric than I do already!!!!

I don't have a solution but you are not alone. I once repaired a shoe (at work, in an open plan office) with super glue, whilst wearing it. The glue seeped through and stuck the shoe to my foot 😂. Fortunately I was wearing tights so was able to very gingerly peel it off.

ChristianGreysAnatomy · 01/02/2019 14:16

Isn’t the correct answer “sex lube and a fish slice”?

Or just nonchalance and a straw, maybe.

WeeDangerousSpike · 01/02/2019 14:20

There's a thing about how superglue sticks, if you pull apart it won't break the bond, but if you twist the torsion breaks the bond, might help?

ChrisjenAvasarala · 01/02/2019 14:22

Hot water dies the trick but it needs to be on an area you can completely cover with water and the roll the thing around to loosen it. You won't be able to get the hot water past the very edge of the cup so it won't do much good.

Try acetone, or fill the cup with boiling hot water and maybe the heat will help loosen it...

mummmy2017 · 01/02/2019 14:22

Go tell your boss.

Bet you will brighten his day .
Have a laugh with him ..

duckthisshit · 01/02/2019 14:22

I'm sorry but this is hilarious!!

WeeDangerousSpike · 01/02/2019 14:22

Hot water won't work! If it would it wouldn't have stuck in the first place while the tea was hot Brew

ellendegeneres · 01/02/2019 14:23

It is now a decorative cup. Leave it there to do it’s job
