My poor cousin discharged 24 hours after woth just paracetamol and ibuprofen. Is that standard? Shes climbing the walls.

Had an emcs last Feb and was given paracetamol ibuprofen and tramadol. Tbh it was trapped wind that was most painful Shock

MouseUtopia · 01/02/2019 11:55

After an emcs 20 years ago I had a pca driver loaded with morphine. I was sent home on codeine.

Ds2 I had 14 years ago by elcs and was given diclofenac suppositories and codeine.

HavelockVetinari · 01/02/2019 11:59

I had one lot of oramorph post EMCS under GA but it made me hallucinate so I refused the next dose. Paracetamol and ibuprofen after that were fine.

kirinm · 01/02/2019 12:03

Yep only paracetamol and ibuprofen for me after my section 5 months ago. I took them every 4 hours religiously and they did keep the pain under control but then my wound got infected and they did nothing.

sm40 · 01/02/2019 12:07

I wasn't even sent home with drugs! Told to buy my own! 1st c-section they did send me home with codeine. Nothing for the 2nd. It was the trapped wind that killed me. I had morphine in hospital for that. That was on day 2 though. Sent home next day.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 01/02/2019 12:07

I had sufficient oral morphine for the first 24 hrs & then discharged home with codydramol (paracetamol & dihydracodiene) and ibuprofen

fussychica · 01/02/2019 12:09

Massive shot of morphine whilst closing as I could feel it despite the epidural. Unfortunately this caused some milk supply issues.
Discharged with Cocodamol but had very little pain post op thankfully.

Blizy · 01/02/2019 12:10

I had paracetamol, diclofenac and dihydracodiene. I had to stop taking the codiene, as I dropped my baby onto the bed mid breast feed as I fell asleep! The meds made me so drowsy!

babysharkah · 01/02/2019 12:12

Dicolfenac and paracetamol. I think diclofenac has been contraindicted now so isn't prescribed any more.

herethereandeverywhere · 01/02/2019 12:15

Oh and I breastfed on diclofenac.

herethereandeverywhere · 01/02/2019 12:19

Diclofenac was contraindicated for major blood loss where transfusion hadn't been given but I'm surprised ibuprofen would be ok in that scenario.

Perhaps a dr will be along in a moment to clarify.

With hindsight I'd have abandoned bf for proper pain relief (though that was re: being butchered by forceps during my first birth). Formula's not that bad - if you are miserable with pain it seems like a good option to me.

lamazdastuff · 01/02/2019 12:22

I had paracetamol, ibuprofen and tramadol in hosp. Told to get paracetamol and ibuprofen on way home to take when I was at home. Not sent home with anything.

MsFrosty · 01/02/2019 12:22

I had oramorph in hospital and paracetamol and ibroprofen on discharge

halfwitpicker · 01/02/2019 12:24

Naproxen. Cocodmol, didn't take it though. Had a section.

3boysandabump · 01/02/2019 12:41

I was told to buy ibuprofen and paracetamol and tbh that's all I needed.

If she's in pain she needs to call and ask them for something stronger. There are plenty of stronger painkillers suitable even if she is bf

Curly01 · 01/02/2019 12:44

I was given tramadol to come home both times. I took that after 1st section and was in a lot of pain. After 2nd section i found that it just made me feel funny and didn’t really help with the pain ibropen and parocetamol religiously every 4 hours really helped wish I just did that the 1st time Smile

ButtMuncher · 01/02/2019 13:06

Just paracetamol 😂 I'm allergic to ibuprofen and oramorph made me mental, so after day one it was paracetamol and that alone. I didn't take it after day 4 but I have to admit I had a text book, largely stress free section.

Fingerbobs · 01/02/2019 13:35

Tramadol immediately afterward which made me feel hideously nauseous so just paracetamol, which I kept forgetting to take as it literally didn’t hurt. Elective though so very different to emergency.

YerAWizardHarry · 01/02/2019 13:38

Diclofenic and paracetamol. Was 6 years ago though

elliejjtiny · 01/02/2019 13:45

Oramorph for first 2 days in hospital, then just paracetamol and ibuprofen. Nowhere near enough though.

MiniMaxi · 01/02/2019 14:00

Codeine and paracetamol for a couple of days, then paracetamol and ibuprofen for longer (they don’t give codeine for more than 3 days because it’s addictive)

I was in for a while though, don’t know if it’s different if you’re discharged

Notlostjustexploring · 01/02/2019 14:58

Had an elcs 8 weeks ago. While in hospital I had a spinal, a diclofenic suppository during surgery, possibly some morphine in a drip, regular paracetamol, ibuprofen, codeine and occasionally oramorph when I fancied a sleep. Was sent home with a box of codeine, ten days worth I think. Also used paracetamol and ibuprofen at home. Midwifeave me some oramorph an hour or so before I left, to keep me topped up for the car drive home.Grin

That was excellent pain management I received. I've had gym sessions that have produced more pain.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/02/2019 15:15

ELCS 4 months ago - discharged with Paracetamol, ibuprofen and tramadol.

Newtobusiness · 01/02/2019 15:29

Co-codamol is available over the counter.
It isn't recommend for breastfeeding mothers because a small amount of the codeine transfers into the mother milk.
However I was I'm excruciating pain after my c section and my GP told me to take co-codamol sparingly. It helped take the edge off the pain.

Get her to speak with a pharmacist or GP(even over the phone?)

OutPinked · 01/02/2019 15:49

Yes that is standard and all I was sent home with too, it’s an absolute travesty. I was sent home after 14 hours ffs and I was in agony. Had to ask the GP to prescribe something stronger Angry.
