What foods bring you joy?

Mine:
Bolognese (cooked long and slow)
Roast chicken
cold poached salmon
cold lobster
roasted cauliflower
stilton cheese at room temperature
lentil crisps

I love most food but these in particular are just so very delicious to me.

What are yours?

Bread. Soft, white, slightly doughy bread. Tiger loaf in particular. I love bread. I cannot have bread in the house. Haven’t eaten bread in months. Still crave bread.

Also: really nice smoked salmon; flavoursome cherry tomatoes; a perfectly poached egg. Those things I can have.

AlpacaPicnic · 01/02/2019 10:35

Smoked haddock chowder in a bread bowl.
Creamy, smokey, deliciously soaked into bread.

Yorkshire pudding with gravy. One of those huge ones that you use as a plate to hold sausages.

Room temperature brie.

JellycatElfie · 01/02/2019 10:36

Oooh

Galaxy cookie crumble chocolate
Cold trout
Blue Stilton fresh out the fridge with crackers
Tuna steak in a lemon and black pepper sauce
Smashed avocado with sour dough toast and poached eggs and lots of chilli flakes and salt

Beef brisket or a juicy rare fillet steak with slightly melted stilton cheese
Yes, crusty and slightly doughy white bread with butter (I eat brown bread usually)
Really punchy laksa- very citrousy and spicy
A really good roast with really flavoursome gravy and crispy roast potatoes
Fish (big and chunky), chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. LOADS of salt and vinegar.

Galaxy chocolate
Carrot cake
But the best of all these things is.....
An oreo cookie bomb 🤤 Only had it in one restaurant, but oh my .... it's amazing! It's basically two giant Oreo cookies that have been crumbled up and put back together to create a sandwich and in between this glorious cookie sandwich is vanilla ice cream with more cookie pieces running through it and to top it off, it's then drizzled with butterscotch sauce 😍😍 I went to that restaurant A LOT.

Mushroom double Swiss burger from Burger King. It's been over 20 years and I still can't let go.
As for homemade. A really hot chilli con carne done in the slowcooker. With either a crispy baked spud or spicy homemade wedges. Topped with freezing cold sour cream or creme fraiche.

A jacket potato that has had its skin rubbed with olive oil and sea salt so it’s all crispy and salty, served with a load of butter and grated cheddar.

Homemade guacamole (avocado, salt, chilli, lime, coriander, spring onions) and tortilla chips.

Roast chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, white wine gravy.

Chilli cooked long and slow and served with sour cream, rice, tortilla chips and cornbread.

A proper roast with homemade Yorkshire puddings, red wine gravy and homemade roast potatoes with lots of brown crispy bits.

Cauliflower roasted with garam masala.

Apple and plum crumble.

Prawn and chilli linguine.

A Cromer crab, served with buttered and salted Jersey Royal new potatoes, thinly sliced brown bread and butter, home-grown tomatoes, a crisp salad and a glass of icy Sauvignon blanc.

Hot buttered toast with honey.

quirkychick · 01/02/2019 12:35

Jumbo prawns in garlic butter
Dark chocolate
Roast chicken
Steak in peppercorn sauce
Eggs
Marzipan, amaretti biscuits
Chinese food, Thai food

Variations of the above, probably more as I think of them.

DarlingNikita · 01/02/2019 12:41

I love lentil crisps too, the ready salted ones.

Nut chocolate, any kind really but I am very partial to a Turkish (I thin) brand in a square pack –dark with whole pistachios.

Linguine and clams (bianco – no fecking tomato).

Good dark chocolate truffles that start melting in your fingers, never mind your mouth.

A good mature Cheddar.

Cold roast chicken and leftover roast potatoes, loads of mayonnaise, good white bread and unsalted butter.

Stopping here because I'm just making myself ravenous. Grin

GahWhatever · 01/02/2019 13:22

I love that it's often the best versions of simple things that bring the most joy.
Good bread, a perfectly cooked egg, a crispy baked potato with a fluffy middle.
Shows that being able to cook simple foods well can bring as much/more pleasure than fancy recipes.
And how many of us specify the difference between what brings us joy and what is merely ok: my slowly simmered bolognese is a very much more pleasant experience than if made quickly with a jar; the temperature of cheese or tomatoes is mentioned by pp; that fresh grilled fish is a joy rather than any old fish.......

The difference between enjoyment and joy is all in the detail!

Any cheese on crackers! (Often with a slice of apple)
