How old was baby when you took them into work?

My work wants me to take my baby in to meet a few of them (most women do this at my place) and I was just wondering how old your baby was when you decided to take them in to meet your colleagues?

About a week old but I’d had an EMCS so wasn’t very mobile before that.

CakeNinja · 31/01/2019 19:49

Wow, a week is really early!!

CakeNinja · 31/01/2019 19:51

I wasn’t working when I had mine but most people (if they are liked!) come in after about a month where I work now.

zippey · 31/01/2019 19:51

I took my baby into work at about 2 weeks, but I wouldn’t do it again. It’s always awkward when people show off thier babies. Nobody really wants to see a baby at a place of work.

PostmanPatIsIncompetent · 31/01/2019 19:51

About 4 or 5 months with my first, about 6 weeks with my second

Depends on the place/people, I honestly really like it. A brief visit with a happy baby is a great tonic in a boring/stressful work day (I'd get mine out of the office fast if crying, though).

My husband took our son to work on day 2 , he was so proud of him. Do what ever feels right for you, there is no right or wrong way

ReaganSomerset · 31/01/2019 19:56

6 days

bert3400 · 31/01/2019 19:56

We both worked at the same place , so it wasn't weird

Buggerbuggerbuggerargh · 31/01/2019 19:57

He was 4 weeks.

I LOVE it when colleagues bring their babies in.

Sparklingbrook · 31/01/2019 19:59

About 2 months I think. I popped in because a work friend and i were going out for lunch.

I found it all a bit cringey. Everyone stops work for ages and crying babies being passed about in an office environment not ideal.

When others brought their babies in I would say a quick 'hi how are you' then have urgent business on another floor of the building suddenly. Wink

purplemirrors · 31/01/2019 19:59

At nearly 3 months I think

megletthesecond · 31/01/2019 19:59

6 weeks for the Xmas meal in the canteen.
They were lovely (emergency services team) so I wasn't at all phased about letting them hold DS while I ate.

popcorndiva · 31/01/2019 20:00

10 days. I wasn't very mobile before this due to an emcs. As DH was back to work after 2 weeks and i was still unable to drive it was the only chance i could before 8 weeks. I take him around every 1 - 2 months. They regularly message me asking him to bring him in but i am close with my team.

FairyBunnyAgain · 31/01/2019 20:00

Company Director here when DC1 was born, we both went to an important board meeting at around 3 weeks and I was back at work after 8.
DC2 was much older maybe 2 or 3 as we had a nanny by then and I'm not a her is my baby would you like to see him type of person. Plus I am not sure they wanted to see their boss's baby.

ChoccyBiccyTastic · 31/01/2019 20:00

10 days. Registered the birth in the same outing, so 2 birds with 1 stone. Not awkward at all!

Parthenope · 31/01/2019 20:05

I have never worked anywhere where people brought in their babies on maternity leave. In my current workplace, if there's a baby around, someone's had their childcare fall through.

Also, I assume it's only people who live close to their workplace who do this -- most of my colleagues have substantial commutes, so it would be a real trek.

SnuggyBuggy · 31/01/2019 20:07

I think she was about 4 months. Wasn't up for the logistics of planning a visit before that

meow1989 · 31/01/2019 20:07

5 weeks when I went in to get a flu jab I barely see him for about 45 minutes beyond his crowd of admirers!

About 2 months, maybe a little less. Me and DH worked at the same place so was sort of a double whammy.

Then DS did a massive explosive shit and everyone went back to their desks Grin

AnneElliott · 31/01/2019 21:51

DS was 2 weeks old. My boss asked to hold him while I got stuck into talking through secondary legislation with the lawyers (I missed my job).

Everyone brings their babies into our place. We love it.

MeetOnTheledge · 31/01/2019 22:06

I never did, it was totally not the done thing where I worked then. Sometimes people met up with mum and baby in a cafe or pub but never on site. People do it where I work now from a few weeks sometimes but they tend to come at lunchtime and stay in the kitchen, babies aren't brought into the actual offices.

greendale17 · 31/01/2019 22:09

Some really miserable people on here.

Anyway I took my DS at 2 months. At the request of my boss and colleagues. My partner did the same. I am glad we both work at nice places

PolarBearDisguisedAsAPenguin · 31/01/2019 22:29

Nobody really wants to see a baby at a place of work

Thankfully my colleagues did a very good job of pretending otherwise. Grin

DD was earlier than expected and I hadn’t started maternity leave, so I had to go in for a few admin tasks and also to take in the obligatory cake people in my office buy for when they go off on maternity leave. I didn’t stay long and timed it well that she slept throughout.
