Did anyone here ACTUALLY get thrown out of the Brownies?

Because every time I mention that Dd is enjoying it that's all anyone says. Surely everyone can't have been expelled from the Brownies or it wide have disbanded by now

Lol no although my sister did get thrown out of the guides. I was jealous as I loathed guides but my mum made me go. The leader knew I hated it so she’d have never thrown me out as it would have been playing right into my hands. I couldn’t stand her and the feeling was mutual!

StealthPolarBear · 31/01/2019 11:25

Really?! I've never heard anyone say that. I wasnt :)

Furries · 31/01/2019 11:28

It was strongly “suggested” that I didn’t move on to Guides. Can’t remember why now, my older memory is failing me!!

And I was always known as a “good” girl through my childhood and I didn’t like breaking rules - so heaven knows what I did!!

FrangipaniBlue · 31/01/2019 11:30

Yeah I'm like Furries, I didn't get kicked out of Brownies per se but I was told not to bother moving on to guides Blush

CRbear · 31/01/2019 11:31

I was! Our car was so unreliable we missed a few. I was chucked out in favour of someone who could be more dedicated. I do get it. But I didn’t really understand at that age.

whatsnewchoochoo · 31/01/2019 11:33

Yep - for not going to church. My parents were divorced and I stayed with my dad an hour away on Sundays so couldn't go.

KittenKaboodal · 31/01/2019 11:37

Yes, I was asked to leave for not going to Church too

Pretenditsaplan · 31/01/2019 11:37

I did i got caught eating the last bit of one of those little icing tubes. There wasnt enough to save and it would of gone into the bin. Apparently this was theft (id actually brought them from home so if they had of been saved i would of taken them home anyway) and i was mever to darken theyre doors again. I was a well behaved sixer who took on a lot of organisation responsibilities because i liked to be helpful. Never even been told off before that.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 31/01/2019 11:38

My Aunt was the Brown Owl, so I was never going to be kicked out, but every slight misdemeanour was reported back to my Mum. My Mum was the guide leader, and she did actually suspend me from guides for a couple of weeks for being cheeky. Blush

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 31/01/2019 11:39

My DD has just started guides (didn't do brownies) and my cousin is the guide leader, so new generation same setup. Grin

blueskiesandforests · 31/01/2019 11:39

My mother was asked not to send me any more because I didn't want to stand up and say a really awful, irritating, twee little song was "one of our favourites" to announce it at a concert Grin I'm sure that was the straw that broke the camel's back not the whole reason, but that's how I remember it. Grin I was delighted because I hated it - all we did was sing or play hideous group games like Jacob's ladder, we never went camping which as far as I could see was the only real reason for brownies. My mum sent me to get to know licals as she'd sent me to an out of area school - but everyone else already knew each other because they all went to the village school Hmm obviously, and in fact they were pretty much all related to one another and to the rather passive, grumpy brown owl anyway, it was that kind of village...

I was delighted to leave until to my horror my mother willfully misinterpreted the suggestion I wasn't suited to brownies as meaning I should move on to guides early and that was even worse... Shock

Accountant222 · 31/01/2019 11:43

I wasn't allowed to even join (I desperately wanted too) my Grandad thought it would be like Hitler Youth, for God's sake.

Nescafe · 31/01/2019 11:44

I was expelled from Girls Brigade..

purplelass · 31/01/2019 11:46

I got thrown out of guides for spending too much time on the neighbouring scout campsite Grin

I was a brownie leader though and no-one ever got thrown out of my pack

x2boys · 31/01/2019 11:46

The Brownies and Guides I attended was very close knit ,we all went to the same school, churches etc so to be kicked out would have been widely gossiped about I only stayed in guides for a year.or so , I did join a, "Ranger Guide "" group. a couple of years later which I enjoyed far more .

FiveStoryFire · 31/01/2019 11:48

My friend was kicked out for fraternising with boys.

BellMcEnd · 31/01/2019 11:48

Me! I was asked not to return as I was “not brownie material” Hmm. It was shite anyway so I wasn’t bothered.

Grumpbum123 · 31/01/2019 11:49

I was asked to not come back due to mini protest I stayed over the unfairness of who was made a sixer

Seeline · 31/01/2019 11:50

My Mum was Brown Owl, so I was probably lucky not to have been expelled. Contrary to popular thought, it didn't mean I was favourite or got picked for everything, or was let off minor misdemeanors. What it actually meant was my Mum went out of her way not to pick me for most things to show I wasn't favourite and I got told off for things that I wasn't even near to because it was easier to tell me off rather than someone else!.
In actual fact she was Brown Owl for 25 years, and in all that time she never threw anyone out (although some of them deserved it). Mostly though, it was the parents that should have been thrown out.

AntheaGreenfern · 31/01/2019 11:51

I feel I was "managed out."

bellinisurge · 31/01/2019 11:53

I was also "managed out" back in the 70s.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 31/01/2019 11:55

Nope and I don't know anyone kicked out of the brownies BUT I did leave the guides because I was very upset with one of the leaders. My mum did go down and give them a piece of her mind.

Looking back i'm still angry about what they said actually!

BigusBumus · 31/01/2019 11:59

I was! In 1979 in a very small village. The village pub had one of those massive glass bottles on the bar to collect coins for charity. All 1/2, 1 and 2ps. The pub gave it to the brownies to count when it was full.

I nicked about 20ps worth into my little leather purse-on-a-belt thing and was seen doing it. I was 8. Blush

FunkyBrownie · 31/01/2019 12:05

I’ve always wondered this too 🤔

I’m a brownie leader and every time it gets mentioned to someone new they tell me about how they were so naughty they got kicked out... yet in all the heads I’ve been a leader I’ve never known it to happen.

(I’m not saying there aren’t a few choice darlings who I wouldn’t have minded kicking out though lol!)

WrongKindOfFace · 31/01/2019 12:06

I know someone who says she was expelled from brownies. For throwing a pair of socks at someone.
