Did anyone here ACTUALLY get thrown out of the Brownies?

Because every time I mention that Dd is enjoying it that's all anyone says. Surely everyone can't have been expelled from the Brownies or it wide have disbanded by now

I left in a huff (yes I was a very huffy 9 year old) after a series of unfair events culminating in them denying me a badge I felt I'd earned...so not kicked out but I might describe it as constructive dismissal! There were 4 of us in our village that went to the same pack in town and there was some sort of lift sharing drama going on so I think my mum was glad to wash her hands of the whole thing.

Furries · 31/01/2019 12:13

Am loving being “managed out” - and glad to hear that we’re not all alone!

Gummybear14 · 31/01/2019 12:15

Yes I was and that was my plan because my mother forced me to go. Fluffy owl and I were just not seeing eye to eye.

Ragwort · 31/01/2019 12:18

It was strongly suggested that I left as ‘I clearly wasn’t enjoying it’.

I went on to be very involved in Scouting & was in various leadership roles for over 30 years Grin.

ChodeofChodeHall · 31/01/2019 12:19

Yes: for missing church parade. They are very ban-happy in the Brownies.

cantfindname · 31/01/2019 12:27

My mother was told that I 'didn't really fit the Brownie ethos' after I refused to take seriously sitting round a crumbling papier mache toadstool singing songs. I can still remember the laughter and being totally unable to stop!

JanetWeb2812 · 31/01/2019 12:30

Not me but DB resigned from the Cubs after a fight at the summer camp. The Akela came round to have a word with Mum and DB let him know, in no uncertain terms, that he would not be returning.

halfwitpicker · 31/01/2019 12:31

Me! I was asked not to return as I was “not brownie material” hmm. It was shite anyway so I wasn’t bothered.

Grin

Bellmcend, you were the cool kid in Kickers at school, weren't you?

PineapplesAndTheGovernment · 31/01/2019 12:32

My brown owl was very strict in the 70s, although she ran the pack very well and den building on pack holiday was one of my best childhood memories. No one had behaviour problems but if they had I can believe they wouldn't have lasted long

SargeantAngua · 31/01/2019 12:33

Nope, though I was bored and switched to Cubs when I realised it was a possibility (soon after the rules changed to allow girls)

Starlight456 · 31/01/2019 12:36

I had to leave Brownies as my mum had a row with brown owl 😳

I went on to become a queens guide though

beenandgoneandbackagain · 31/01/2019 12:45

I was "asked not to go back" if that's the same as getting kicked out. I was far too non-conforming in those days.

upaladderagain · 31/01/2019 13:04

I was. As a very timid child I was easy prey for a thoroughly nasty little bully (Anna, I still remember your name) who plagued me mercilessly for weeks. One day I snapped and whopped her. Just a thump (no excuse I know) and so I was told never to come back. It didn’t help that meetings were in the church hall and she was the vicars daughter.

Smeeeeeee · 31/01/2019 13:10

I did! I desperately wanted to stay at Brownies and not move up to guides. They let me stay a bit past the age then I had to go 😭

PassTheGinPlease · 31/01/2019 13:16

Nope, but DH was thrown out of Scouts after one session.
He was a self confessed git as a child, he's made me promise to never tell our DCs. Anytime one of them acts the arse, I do immediately and quietly blame his genes- I never even got a detention all through school.

Kezzie200 · 31/01/2019 13:18

Guides... my mate was and I was given a second chance. We were talking and Brown Owl threw a book on the floor. There was a quick silence followed by my mate saying "Now, what was I saying before i was rudely interrupted by someone throwing the guide handbook on the floor"

It was hilarious but very very naughty.

This was circa 1980.

minkies11 · 31/01/2019 13:24

I loved Brownies but didn't quite fit with Guides. Trying to wear a tight ish very short skirt and 10 denier nylons got me asked not to return Grin

Slurpy · 31/01/2019 13:36

I was constructively dismissed more than kicked out. DM refused to lie about our religion (none), so I wasn't invited to all the fun stuff. They'd never get away with tha now!

londonloves · 31/01/2019 13:50

I got kicked out for saying bugger and refusing to apologise. Didn't care, hated it, wanted to do more music lessons.

SoonBeSpring · 31/01/2019 13:52

No but I did get smacked on the bottom by Brown Owl. This was the '70s and DM said 'I probably deserved it'.

juniperbushes · 31/01/2019 14:21

I got thrown out of the guides. Someone was picking on me (well-known bully at school too) and she stuck a drawing pin in my leg. I hit her over the head with my Guide book, and that was it. Apparently I should have shown forgiveness and turned the other cheek. Fuck that.

PatriciaHolm · 31/01/2019 14:22

I was asked not to come back to Guides because I refused to take the oath to either the Queen or God. Skipped home quite happily actually..

So technically not thrown out, just not allowed to join!

Flower777 · 31/01/2019 14:25

I hate Brownies

I failed the pathfinder badge

I was also made to stand in the corner for wearing my bobble hat like a nightcap. Me and my friends were doing it and we all had to stand in the corner

Apparently our brown owl was an alcoholic

I remember playing very quietly in my room every Monday hoping my mum would forget

I didn’t want my daughter to do it but she begged me recently and has just started. Seems different these days

Redglitter · 31/01/2019 14:28

I was kicked out the Guides Blush

iklboo · 31/01/2019 14:30

I was yes. For leading a small revolt against Brown Owl. She told my mum she didn't think I understood the morals of Brownies and maybe I should try something else.
