To wish it would snow heavily?

I LOVE snow. I'm like a small child, absolutely love the stuff. Yes it can be such a pain in the arse when things don't cope, but I still love it to bits. Where I grew up, my parents get very heavy snow every few years, and I absolutely love it when it does snow there. Last year they had 12ft drifts and about a foot overall. A few years before that when I was there we had a Code Red Weather Warning for blizzards and it was fun.

Of course I understand it's only fun if you prepare, but it's very hard on services and the elderly.

Where I live in the south, we rarely get any snow at all, or if we do a few inches tops.

Goodiegoodieyumyum that's what it looked like here when I got up yesterday (altrincham south Manchester) it was a real shock as we never really get any decent snow.
Yesterday was amazing snow day for my four kids and we went sledging. This morning was not as fun, the snow has compacted and frozen so it's treacherous. It looks so so pretty though it's a beautiful sunny day but -2.
I asked youngest if he wanted to go out but he said "not today mama it's too cold let's stay at home and cuddle"

Lycian I would love week in Wales, we are lucky that are roads (except for private) are all cleared and gritted, I discovered on Monday that the next council over from ours is not so good at clearing snow the roads were slippery after an hour of snow. It is the first real snow we have had this winter, not like in the south of Germany. Luckily my children get the bus to school and only once in the three years did the school close because all of the other buses couldn't get to school, my daughters did and then she was sent home, My son has just told me his homework today is to play in the snow, he normally has to do homework as they have very short days at school, today is his longest day and he finished at 12,45.

I normally love it and we're forecast lots this evening and overnight, but we're having building work done and currently have no roof at all, so I'm a tad worried and would quite like it to give us a swerve for now.

Lycanthropology · 31/01/2019 15:22

Yay! It's snowing!
It won't land, though 😒

I love snow BUT work in a hospital & will still be expected to risk life and limb to get to work for 6.30 in the morning.

So I’d rather no snow TBH Grin.

Nothing here in York, just heavy frost. Would LOVE proper snow, my daughter hated it last year but likes it now so would love her to play in it like i did as a kid :-D

My NHS Trust has become quite unpleasant towards its staff in the event of snow and the inability to get to work....

The hospital is in a very expensive city, so only 1 person in my team of 8 could possibly walk to work. Of the rest of us, 2 have an 1.15 hour drive one way every day, and the rest of us are 30-45 mins away, some across open Downland.

Last year they put their senior management up in hotels while the staff slept on patient trolleys.

Not feeling very incentivised to risk life and limb, here.

DuffBeer · 31/01/2019 18:45

I'd rather it didn't snow. It just makes things too difficult in this country!

PickAChew · 31/01/2019 18:48

Meh. It gets old, fast.

Beenherebefore · 31/01/2019 18:49

I can't understand how a grown up could want it to snow heavily.
At best it turns into a massive pain in the arse for everyone over the age of 13! Nightmare for anyone commuting / trying to get anywhere, dreadful / dangerous for the elderly wanting to walk anywhere, for anyone who doesn't have a 4x4, but even they are inconvenienced due to no one else being able to drive their cars.
At worst it causes deaths!
So in my opinion, as you asked, YES I DOI think YABU!

Are you outing him as a proper geordie, like? It was - 6 when I got up, this morning. I've been painting today and just wanted a bit of a walk because I get stiff, climbing ladders and need a stretch. I opened the door, at lunchtime, when it had finally reached - 2, breathed in the air and thought "bugger that!"

I need some non-icy pavements because I haven't had a decent walk since Monday.

Ylvamoon · 31/01/2019 18:56

I like the snow too! But I have to drive to work, some of it on untreated country roads.... so I'd rather it snows on Friday night and be gone by Monday morning... ⛄ ⛄ ⛄ ⛄

Well we had an excitable flurry for about half an hour but it’s stopped now. Disappointing!! I was hoping for a snow day tomorrow (school staff) but looks like it will be fully open as a normal day. Booooo!
I don’t mind going in on snow days when it’s only open for people with childcare issues, we get them to sign something saying they are happy for them to play out in the snow and then we have a lovely day with snow play, bringing them in for games and fun stuff.
But if it’s just a regular day, it’s going to be rubbish! I think I’d built it up in my head that we were going to get a decent dumping.
