To wish it would snow heavily?

I LOVE snow. I'm like a small child, absolutely love the stuff. Yes it can be such a pain in the arse when things don't cope, but I still love it to bits. Where I grew up, my parents get very heavy snow every few years, and I absolutely love it when it does snow there. Last year they had 12ft drifts and about a foot overall. A few years before that when I was there we had a Code Red Weather Warning for blizzards and it was fun.

Of course I understand it's only fun if you prepare, but it's very hard on services and the elderly.

Where I live in the south, we rarely get any snow at all, or if we do a few inches tops.

I know it is exciting and pretty but I have a job where I frequently have to get into work in the night and at short notice. I live rurally and it is incredibly scary driving at night when conditions are bad. I hate it.

EngTech · 29/01/2019 22:19

Snow looks great on Christmas cards and if you are warm inside looking out.

Working in it, is a totally different experience 😳

MongerTruffle · 29/01/2019 22:19

The city I live in (in the East of England) is a snow-resistant dome. We haven't had anything close to proper snow for about ten years.

Mumblers · 29/01/2019 22:22

I LOVE snow. It's magical! Loved the snow blizzards we had in the north west last year. Took my kids to the shops in the sledge in it too. I text my grown up daughter when I see a flake "It's snowing!" Love how quiet everything goes when it snows, the crunching sound of people walking past when you're tucked up warm in your house. Do NOT love the grey slush a few days later. Fingers crossed, we are forecast snow here either Thursday or Friday 😁😁

Helmlover · 29/01/2019 22:28

Yeah I’d love the snow too if I didn’t have have to work or go anywhere important..Hmm

Schmoobarb · 29/01/2019 22:28

I like it when I am in the house and don’t have to go anywhere or in a ski resort where they cope well with the snow. I fucking hate it when I have to battle to work and back in it and they close the kids schools. On balance I’d happily live without it.

Gilead · 29/01/2019 22:32

Taking into consideration it snows at minus 20 in Russia, and other places, it isn’t too cold to snow here!

Sandsnake · 29/01/2019 22:39

I love it an inordinate amount. This evening hasn’t produced for where I live but was ready for that. Have hopes for Thursday though. Even when I know it will end up being a pain I just can’t help but want it to come. I put it down to growing up on the south coast and never getting any as a kid!

flatpackbox · 29/01/2019 22:46

In the UK the heaviest snow tends to fall between zero and 2 degrees.

In my experience we don’t get much snow where I live when it is well below freezing.

UnexpectedPigeon · 29/01/2019 22:49

We have about a centimetre of snow here in the east of England. I have a hospital appointment in a neighbouring city early tomorrow morning, and I’m supposed to be getting a train. I’m assuming that said train will either be

a) frozen to the tracks
b) skidding off the tracks and escaping into the fens to live in the wild or
c) randomly sitting outside its destination for weeks until we’re forced to eat each other to survive.

Happy days!

ChesterGreySideboard · 29/01/2019 22:56

I’m in the East. It is raining.
We had lots of snow last year and work closed for one of those days. What got to me is that the schools were closed but the park was empty. (I overlook a park with a perfect sledging hill)
I’d love some snow, but it is an arse ache.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 29/01/2019 23:01

I hate it. The entire country grinds to a stop, the poorly constructed nature of our housing stock becomes painfully apparent, and there are endless days of grey mush when it a goes away.

I’d much rather have a couple of days rain and be done.

purplecorkheart · 29/01/2019 23:11

I am not a fan of snow. It is picture perfect when looking out the window from a warm and cozy house but there are so many people who are homeless sleeping on the streets trying to stay warm.

Shockers · 29/01/2019 23:14

I love the silence of snow. I watched it coming down in huge soft flakes this morning and it felt as though the world had been muffled.

I didn’t have to leave the house though.

HTKS · 31/01/2019 07:38

Absolutely love love love snow here. Everywhere looks gorgeous in snow. I don’t drive in snow though and am working today and tomorrow so if it could just hold off til the weekend that would be amazing! I have something I really don’t want to do so it’s the perfect excuse and then I can play out with the kids and dogs all day! (Or 20 minutes until we get cold).

Pleasepleaseplease weather gods snow at the weekend!

Allyg1185 · 31/01/2019 07:44

Snows great.....when you're a kid. You get a snow day from school but when you're an adult that has to get into work regardless of how bad the snow is then it's a major pain i the ass. Also when they shut the schools at a mere covering of snow but you are still expected in work it makes childcare a nightmare to

pineapplebryanbrown · 31/01/2019 07:48

I love snow but what i love more is really torrential rain. Completely bucketing down.

ladyme · 31/01/2019 07:50

I'm the same but I also think it comes from living in the south/London so it's never had a chance to not be a novelty!

Hedgehogblues · 31/01/2019 07:53

I hate it. Neither of my wheelchairs can cope with it so I end up housebound

BendingSpoons · 31/01/2019 07:57

We haven't had any snow where we are. I'm a bit sad, especially as DH and I have both been off work, but also relieved as 38 weeks pregnant and don't want to struggle getting to the hospital if needed!

hippipotamiwantstoloseapound · 31/01/2019 07:58

Quite frankly you are a fuckwit wishing for snow

That's a bit unkind?

Surely someone is allowed to wish for something that would bring them a bit of joy? Some love snow, some hate it. Some love sun, some hate it. No need to resort to name calling.

I live in the South East. We rarely get snow. When we do it is 24 hours of pure joy when the schools close and the children / families get outside and slide down the hill in the park, make snowmen and build igloos. People that don't see each other from one day to the next chat and laugh together. Then it turns to grey slush and disappears and life goes back to normal with everyone plugged into their screens in their respective houses.
I love snow!

goodiegoodieyumyum · 31/01/2019 08:06

You are in the wrong country, its snowed all day yesterday and is snowing again now, in the part of Germany I live in.

To wish it would snow heavily?

But this is a uk weather thread 😂 so right country for these forecasts!

maxiflump1 · 31/01/2019 09:49

Normally love the stuff but have to be at hospital at 8am tomorrow morning for a caesarean so praying we don't get too much overnight!Confused

Lycanthropology · 31/01/2019 10:01

goodiegoodieyumyum (gosh that takes me back!)

Do you fancy a weeks house swap? Lovely coastal Wales here. Scenic, huge beaches... never any bloomin snow!
