My doctor has described me as ‘a very pleasant lady’

And it made me cry.

I have to go to hospital tomorrow for an infusion and needed a letter from my doctor as it’s an urgent referral thing. She wrote the referral with my age, weight and the fact that I’m very pleasant.

I am feeling poorly and a bit down at the moment but it really made my day.

Sorry to hear you are feeling down . It’s great that your doctor thinks you are pleasant ! I’m sure mine probably thinks I’m
a nightmare !!!

Hope u feel better soon

MadamBatty · 28/01/2019 19:47

Ha I was described as that on my medical notes. My doctor mate told me it’s doctor speak for asks questions & a bit Bolshy!

MrsMartinRohde · 28/01/2019 19:48

Aw that's lovely.

My dad's cardiologist, in his report to dad's GP after his successful quad bypass surgery, described him as a "delightful gentleman". It's very touching. Dad was really pleased too.

Hope you feel better soon OP.

It could be a lot worse! Wink

MonkeyfaceThereturn · 28/01/2019 19:51

It's standard langauge on doctors letters. Sorry 😁

WeeDangerousSpike · 28/01/2019 19:51

My gastro consultant wrote to my GP ssayi g he was delighted to see this pleasant primigravida. I've wondered if it's code for something! GrinConfused

HouseyMcHouseFace · 28/01/2019 19:52

monkeyface I’m fairly certain that’s not true.

ScrumptiousBears · 28/01/2019 19:52

Is this private OP? I used to work as a PA for a private consultant and his letters were similar. They always gave a compliment at the beginning and the end of they letters.

FuzzyPuffling · 28/01/2019 19:53

I've had this a few times too. I always thought it was code for something (they aren't going to describe you as, for example, "boring and unwashed" are they?) so I am interested to see Madam Batty's take on the phrase!

HouseyMcHouseFace · 28/01/2019 19:53

Oh shit madam 😂

I was thinking I’ve been described as lots of things but never as ‘very pleasant’!

OP posts:
PetuliaBlavatsky · 28/01/2019 19:53

I'm another pleasant one. I suspect it is code for bolshy.

NuzzleandScratch · 28/01/2019 19:53

@WeeDangerousSpike It means first time mum!

KittyMcKitty · 28/01/2019 19:54

Ha! I was described as a very pleasant lady in the discharge letter sent from the fracture clinic to my GP. At the time wise thought “how nice” now I’m wondering if it’s the opposite Grin

HouseyMcHouseFace · 28/01/2019 19:54

I didn’t think they really needed to give a description. I’m (probably) not going to start a fight in AMU.

OP posts:
MonkeyfaceThereturn · 28/01/2019 19:55

Really, it is true. There's been numerous threads about it before on here. And in my extensive medical history, it's been used about me 😁

whatwouldkatyactuallydonext · 28/01/2019 19:56

My most recent doctor’s letter called me a very pleasant young lady - I’m nearly 45!!

HouseyMcHouseFace · 28/01/2019 19:56

Fuck. That’s the nicest thing anyone’s said about me in months. I’m now crying because I’m a bolshy cow. I need some iron to stop me crying/ being pleasant/ bolshy.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 28/01/2019 19:56

Kick someone when they're down eh monkeyface
Hope you feel better soon Housey.

ipswichwitch · 28/01/2019 19:57

Some descriptors I’ve seen in consultant letter from decades ago are less than flattering! Drs can’t gwt away with writing what they really think in this day and age when everyone gets a copy of the letter!!

NerrSnerr · 28/01/2019 19:57

I was once described as a 'knowledgeable mum' in a letter about my son once from a consultant.

Hen2018 · 28/01/2019 19:59

I’m sorry, but they all say that!

heyjude12 · 28/01/2019 19:59

Actually as a medical professional I can assure you that it doesn't mean bolshy and it isn't used unless someone is pleasant.

There are ways of saying bolshyWink

WallisFrizz · 28/01/2019 20:00

My mum still talks with pride about how I was referred to as an adorable little girl in a doctors letter when I was 3. I’m nearly 40 and it still makes her happy.

HouseyMcHouseFace · 28/01/2019 20:01

Thanks heyjude! Although I suppose there are worse things to be than bolshy.

OP posts:
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/01/2019 20:01

They do all say that OP. Sorry!
