Not sleeping on a Sunday night.

Does anyone else get this? Taking propanalol for anxiety, anxiety which has improved a lot and I don’t feel the effects of usually, except for a Sunday night.

I drop off around 10.30, and then I’m awake an hour later until the early hours. Last Sunday I had an upset stomach and was being sick (normal anxiety symptoms for me), this week no sickness but still an upset stomach.

I have diazepam downstairs (leftover from when I was starting antidepressants a while ago) but I’m so reluctant to take them.

Does anyone else struggle more on a Sunday or is it just me? Sad

Yep and I’ve overloaded my Monday too so I’ll really regret it tomorrow

Do you have work or anything tomorrow?

halfwitpicker · 28/01/2019 00:53

I guess you work tomorrow

SageYourResoluteOracle · 28/01/2019 00:55

Nope- it's not just you. I've been in bed since 9:40pm I've listened to a podcast, I've had an extra wee and DH has given me a back rub but I just can't drop off. I know being on my phone isn't great but I've spent 3 hours trying to drop off to no avail. Grrr! I've got a hugely busy week with very little downtime ahead and will be like a zombie 🧟‍♀️

But no point getting wound up I suppose!

Yep, me too, hate Sunday nights always lie awake dreading Mondays and ruminating. Got to be up at 5 ...

BifsWif · 28/01/2019 01:00

Yes I have to work tomorrow. Alarm will be going off at 6am.

It used to happen to me, could never get to sleep on a Sunday night, ended up taking valium or mogadon as that is what was prescribed at the time.

It resolved when I became self employed and could arrange my hours.

namechangedforanon · 28/01/2019 01:07

Always ! Every single Sunday?

namechangedforanon · 28/01/2019 01:08

I usually take Phenergan but seem to have misplaced it

SpaceCadet4000 · 28/01/2019 01:10

I'm with you OP, have had this since childhood. It's gotten a little better with age and CBT, but I've spent much of my life with a sense of foreboding on Sunday nights.

AlbertWinestein · 28/01/2019 01:16

My alarm goes off at 545am Mon-Thursday. I get to sleep ok but you can guarantee, regardless of how active I am the day before, I start waking up at 3am. Sometimes I go back to sleep and very often I don’t. Friday-Sunday, I sleep like a proverbial baby all night. It’s really annoying!

Bluesheep8 · 28/01/2019 05:35

I'm the same op. It started around 10 years ago when I was really stressed at work (was later diagnosed with anxiety) and it still happens to me now. Every Sunday. I fall asleep as normal but then wake anywhere between 1am and 3am and can't get back to sleep. I lie awake worrying until my alarm goes off and it's awful. Just a horrible pattern I can't seem to get out of Hmm

SageYourResoluteOracle · 28/01/2019 06:58

So did anyone actually get and sleep? I think I dropped off around 2 maybe but then saw every hour, waking up at 5:58, just before my alarm went off. I'm now sitting on a train and attempting to hold self upright whilst not scowling at my fellow commuters!

BifsWif · 28/01/2019 07:50

I last looked at the clock at 2.45am, then woke again at 5.30 and alarm went off at 6.

I feel like death, although I feel slightly better knowing it’s not just me who feels like this. I took half a diazepam in the end but it didn’t do much. Has anyone had any success with Nytol or similar?

I'd recommend trying Phenergan - you can get it just by speaking to the pharmacist .

Fell asleep at 2:30 without it but struggle every Monday :(

BifsWif · 28/01/2019 19:10

Thank you namechanged, I’ll pop to the chemist tomorrow.

Bluesheep8 · 28/01/2019 19:43

I'll look into that too. I have no problems falling asleep but waking up and unable to get back to sleep, worrying about being tired the next day is a complete pain!

BifsWif · 28/01/2019 19:49

At least we should all get a decent sleep tonight! I’m bloody knackered!

I've just stocked up on Phenergan online - who knows with Brexit 🤣🤣

Didn't even check if it was made in the UK ... not that I care either way I'd just rather have my supply I only take 1-2 a week as approved by my dr before I get told off!

BifsWif · 31/01/2019 07:21

I didn’t realise you could get it online! Off to have a look. Do they work?

namechangedforanon · 03/02/2019 21:23

Sorry didn't see your message !

Yes they do ! Best for short term insomnia .

Just about to take mine now ... how are you all feeling?

PearlandRubies194 · 03/02/2019 21:28

Hello, I’ve just found this thread. I’m not a very good sleeper any day of the week, but I read on here a while back that people tend to have difficulty falling asleep on Sundays as they enjoy a lie in on Sunday mornings and so their body clocks have been disrupted... could it be this? I suffer from anxiety too, I take Setraline and I’ve found yoga and a long walk helps.

I hope you’ll all sleep well tonight

BifsWif · 03/02/2019 21:36

Hi Pearl, sorry that you struggle with sleep too!

I do usually lie in until around 8 on a Sunday, so today I got up at 6am with the children in an effort to sleep better tonight.

I’ve taken Nytol as well so hopefully that will help.

Sorry to hear you struggle with sleep too, my doctor has suggested sertraline to me but I’m nervous about the side effects. Did you find you had any when you first started taking it?

YouBoggleMyMind · 03/02/2019 23:01

Sunday night blues. Got them every Sunday when I was working. My Dr prescribed me Mirtazapine to help me sleep. It's an antidepressant but has a sedative effect and less brutal in terms of side effects. I felt groggy for a couple of weeks but from people on MN sertraline seems much worse to get used to.

BifsWif · 04/02/2019 07:09

YouBoggleMyMind Did you have any side effects from the mirtazipine?

I slept all night last night!! Not sure if it was then Nytol or if I know the cause of my anxiety and stress is coming to an end but I’m so happy.

Hope everyone else had a restful night?

Ahh that’s fantastic- so glad you slept well! I’m full of cold and my daughter sleeps with me (6) so I get the odd kick or slap in the night but I think I slept well 🤣

Sertraline side effects lasted exactly 10 days for me, a metallic taste in my mouth, waves of nausea and just wanting to sleep all day. Then I woke in the tenth day and it felt like something had lifted.
