Best moisturiser

I need a new moisturiser to use. My skin is quite dry and has open pores (which I hate!) I need to invest in some good skin care to help my skin look youthful and full of life. Any suggestions?

I use Oil of Ulay (Olay)

It really is great.

I use a dermaflannel to wash my face (well worth the money), then moisturise.

Thats it. Keep it simple.

Try it for a month or two, then see if you need ro spend more!

I have extremely dry skin. I can control it well on my face (see below) but can’t do a thing for my hands. I don’t use anything with SLS in, which has transformed body skin.

Boots Witch Hazel keeps my skin clear of open pores. I use it every day after taking makeup off.

Boots distilled witch hazel

Daily serum to moisurise, feels lovely on the skin.

Olay Firm and Lift Serum

Aldi Lacura Caviar - switched to it and it beats the more expensive stuff.

Truckingonandon · 26/01/2019 22:26

Moisturiser does nothing. You need active ingredients to have any impact on your skin. That said, Cerave is great for the days when you're not using actives.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 26/01/2019 22:48

Biotherm aquasource. Like splashing cold water on your face.

ballsdeep · 26/01/2019 23:18

Sorry to sound dim but what things are active ingredients in?
Thanks for all of your suggestions, I'm looking. Now

Clinique moisture surge intense is a complete game changer

CluedoAddict · 26/01/2019 23:37

My Nan used Pond's cream and had amazing skin in her 90's.

Livpool · 26/01/2019 23:43

I am 38 and have recently been using Nivea (in the blue tub) at night. Only started as forgot to replace my night cream. My skin had been really soft. I do have very dry skin though so may be too oily for others

DailyFailstinks · 26/01/2019 23:47

Origins Perfect world - used it for years and will never change it.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 26/01/2019 23:47

Any moisturiser will do, because that's ALL any of them do, moisturiser to a greater or lesser degree.
If you want anything more visibly different, then you need to revamp your cleansing routine and use serums and masks. The biggest game changers are acid toners and Vit C serums.
Have a look at the fantastic skincare threads. Posters on there are a mine of information.

RCohle · 27/01/2019 00:26

I also like Clinique moisture surge or Cerave - both are quite light feeling.

If you want something richer then La Roche Posay Nutritic Intense Riche is nice.

A hyaluronic acid serum under your moisturiser might also help give you an extra moisture boost. The Ordinary or indeed labs are both nice.

Tr1skel1on · 27/01/2019 01:08

Nivea in a blue pot works wonders

billybullshitterz1 · 27/01/2019 01:09

I second third fourth. Clinique Moisture Surge well worth the £££

ThatLibraryMiss · 27/01/2019 13:20

Neutrogena hydro boost gel cream is a knock-off of Clinique moisture surge - they're both made by the same company. Its RRP is £12.99 but it's currently £8.98 on Amazon and often on offer in Sainsburys and Tesco for £6. Fabulous stuff.

If your skin's really dry you might benefit from the Korean method of using several layers of light, non-oily, moisturiser. Hyaluronic acid is a magic ingredient - I use this, let it dry then use this one. You only need a few drops of each smoothed on before the Neutrogena. They're good on hands too, under a cream with oils or butters in it.

Truckingonandon · 28/01/2019 09:40

Actives are things like acids and retinol.

fussychica · 28/01/2019 09:52

DH wanted a cheap moisturiser with SPF for our holiday. He bought Aldi Lacura while wandering around doing a shop. I thought it would be rubbish but it's bloody fantastic. I ditched my expensive stuff when it ran out and purchased the Aldi one.

nowshesaturtle · 28/01/2019 10:37

I second Origins Perfect World. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
That said, I've recently been trying Superdrug's own brand Optimum PhytoCellTec day cream, which is cheap as chips and absolutely fab.

Yearofthemum · 28/01/2019 13:55

My skin is pretty ok for my age, and I rarely use anything. If I do get a dry occasionally in the winter I use Astral cream.

billybullshitterz1 · 28/01/2019 19:10

Thatlibrary I'm going to give the Neutrogena a whirl!

MozzchopsThirty · 28/01/2019 19:17

Sorry to hijack but has anyone tried any of the la Roche poussy (sp?) moisturiser???

I've just started using their eye cream and it's bloody marvellous

groundcontroltomontydon · 28/01/2019 19:19

This from Superdrug, together with the night cream. Only moisturiser that's really made my skin look good. It's usually on offer and it's vegan too!

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 28/01/2019 19:27

I've been using Oilatum since I discovered how brilliant it was on a rash I developed ! I now use it all over ! Face too ! It's amazing stuff ! I'm never going back to my high end products - this is the best !!
