If you could do anything for a living...

What would it be? Money, skills etc no object.

Currently daydreaming about what I would do with my life if I didn't actually have to earn a living. I would love to own a little shop selling wedding dresses or jewellery or something like that. I could just potter about in my shop, talking to customers and looking at beautiful things all day. Anyone else want to share what they'd rather be doing?!

This might sound a bit twee, but I would probably choose what I'm currently doing: supporting children and young people with their physical and mental health.

They always say thank you, I get to make a (small) positive difference in their lives, and they often make me smile.

TheFirstOHN · 24/01/2019 17:12

The downside: some of them are coping with very difficult circumstances, which does upset me.

Being paid to sit on my backside reading all day would be perfect, or something within forensic science

I'd like to be a professional de-CF-er (like a freelance CF pest control).

I'd have my own little van with a freephone number on the side and a list of services:

Cocklodger?
CF friend?
Twatty boss?
Annoying relative?
Shrill neighbours?

Call today and our rapid response team will eradicate all CFs in under 30 minutes or your money back!

I'm lucky to be on that situation now. The kids are grown, and dh is away a lot, as he is in the navy.
I have a small business selling art and decor I make from my beach combing .
We converted a room into a studio, and I sell on line and at craft markets.
One day a week I do infant care, to get my baby fix.

GerryblewuptheER · 24/01/2019 17:38

Ghost hunter/researcher

Or a paramedic

NaturalBlondi · 24/01/2019 17:39

FUll-time mother is the only answer

mimibunz · 24/01/2019 17:41

Animal sanctuary and art gallery assistant for me!

I forgot, and a property developer. I'd keep the houses and rent them out at reasonable rents to people who find it hard to rent due to children and pets and stuff and give them long term secure tenancies. I'd buy up lots of shops and rent them to independent businesses too.

And I'd buy a large old building, like a church or similar, restore it, and run a market/have space for pop up shops for local businesses.

Can you tell I watch a lot of homes under the hammer?

Spoiled for choice, either
a} have a smallholding and be self-sufficient (did do this many years ago)
b} own and run a cafe/tea room.. really would love this
c} be a vet.. but that is probably beyond my intelligence lol.

A varied mix Grin

Designer

Or scientist.

Who ever said police in child protection - only if you want to work 14 hour days and be very very stressed 🙂.

Weatherwax · 24/01/2019 18:19

I'd like to work in a big theatre. Not acting, but floor managing or some such. Used to do bits and pieces at college but gave it all up because I was talked in to getting a "proper job" by my father. Wish I'd gone for it.

Chickenwing · 24/01/2019 18:22

Dog day care!

weegiemum · 24/01/2019 18:23

I'd have loved to be a volcanologist. If I was, I'd probably have been killed for getting too close at some point. I just wasn't good enough at Maths to do Geology as a degree (did Geography). I follow many volcano webcams - Popocatépetl in Mexico is particularly interesting at the moment!

Costner77 · 24/01/2019 18:24

Crime journalist. I love writing, have had a few articles published, but mostly I'm just nosey.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 24/01/2019 18:29

Patisserie maker.

Or tour guide in a historical building.

abbey44 · 24/01/2019 18:32

I've drawn and painted horses and dogs all my life, and have always wanted to do it professionally. Life, though... Anyway, I've just completed my first couple of paid commissions, so now I feel I really can call myself a paid artist. Only taken me until nearly retirement age mind Grin

yearinyearout · 24/01/2019 18:36

I'd own a lovely little cafe overlooking a beach somewhere. I'd just go in and bake the cakes and have plenty of staff so I didn't have to do much other work Wink

Coffeeandcrochet · 24/01/2019 18:40

Part-time data scientist, part-time fibre artist 🤓

Namechangedforthis79 · 24/01/2019 20:34

I love all of these, it's really interesting to see how varied all these are!

I take no prisoners but am very good at doing so without so much as raising my voice, I'm very effective at complaining to companies to the point I'm frequently asked to do so for others, I almost always get the situation resolved and usually some form of compensation or gift too. Could that be an additional service our company could offer? Maybe you should do it as a franchise so there's cf trouble shooters all over the country?

Re police officer in child protection - I honestly know I could not do that job, for the very simple reason I'd get the jail myself for battering the bastards myself!!!!

My brother is a police officer, never did this as a specialist but dealt with abusers when a "normal" officer (he's in a different specialist role now) and he says it took him all his emotional strength not to go for them - especially when they came out with the crap of the child "asked for it" or "lead them on" or "it's not hurting them, it's love, it's a sexual orientation. Like being gay" bollocks!!!

Impicciona · 25/01/2019 14:10

I love the CF exterminator Grin
