If you could do anything for a living...

What would it be? Money, skills etc no object.

Currently daydreaming about what I would do with my life if I didn't actually have to earn a living. I would love to own a little shop selling wedding dresses or jewellery or something like that. I could just potter about in my shop, talking to customers and looking at beautiful things all day. Anyone else want to share what they'd rather be doing?!

Tony Robbins style motivational speaking. Telling my weight loss story and help other do the same.

I'm 90% there .. just need to get over my crippling stage fright Sad

I actually love my job (I work in digital media) but would also like to work in a bookshop. And be a novelist on the side - I wouldn't want to do it all the time as I love my friends at work and would hate to work by myself all the time.

Maybe one day I shall accomplish those last two...

moomin4071 · 24/01/2019 13:54

Quantity surveyor/contracts manager.

Jjacobb · 24/01/2019 13:55

I would be a police officer working in child protection, too old now.

Or, I would run my own cat sanctuary

A food van. I'd love to do one, I make the most amazing burritos and I love making them so much. Sadly I can't afford to get started. One day maybe.

craftqueen · 24/01/2019 13:59

I'd love my own craft/coffee shop

Rock star at the U2/Springsteen level where you always fill the venue and get to choose just how accessible you want/need to be. The pay is good and at those heights you don't have to tread the publicity wheel.

Oh I have a few!

Main one is novelist (I'm hampered only by my own insecurity here!)

Politician (too many skeletons in closet to risk it)

Wedding planner (used to work in the industry and loved it but as a result I also know how badly wedding planners are doing at the moment due to fewer people marrying and those who are generally plan it themselves and even IF they hire a planner there's little profit in it)

Magazine features writer (allowed my insecurities to get better of me, wish I'd done a journalism degree in my youth and done this)

Surgeon - but I watch too much Grey's Anatomy and I think the fantasy is way better than the reality. I spent an overnight in A&E recently and it was a grim, dingy place to be for a few hours let alone for 12 hours at a time. But I still have literal dreams about working in a hospital.

cinemalover · 24/01/2019 14:19

Actress (a really good one!) or a zoo keeper. Grin

Pilot
Air traffic controller
Concert violinist
Anaesthetist

Architect sounds cool but I imagine in reality half your time would be taken up with really tedious stuff like dealing with building regulations and talking to difficult people from the council ...

Foslady · 24/01/2019 16:02

Children’s story teller - I miss doing this!

silkpyjamasallday · 24/01/2019 16:14

I would have a shop selling antique to mid century rugs and furniture, artworks from photography to oils to sculpture, maybe some rock specimens and crystals and essential oil/aromatherapy candles, scent diffusers and bath oils, maybe some shopping tote bags in lovely fabrics and other bits and bobs. Basically just all the things I like but in a shop laid out like a home. I'd like to serve herbal teas too and maybe have a yoga studio and treatment rooms at the back.

Mulberryandthyme · 24/01/2019 16:15

If I had my time again I would like to be an undertaker

Travel writer or professional gambler.

Oblomov19 · 24/01/2019 16:34

Electric blanket tester? I can stay in bed all day. I am at my happiest in bed. I regularly stay in bed, pottering about, back to bed, all day. I never ever get bored. Ever.

Probation Officer Grin which is hopefully going to be viable in about three-four years.

Forensic Pathologist - I’m intrigued by the inner workings of the body! I wouldn’t want to be a surgeon because of the risk of killing your patient....but as a pathologist that risk is non-existent.

NameChanger22 · 24/01/2019 17:07

I'd love to make things and sell them in a couple of Etsy shops. I have the skills as I've been doing it for years, I just cannot be bothered to do the sales and business side of it, so ideally I'd have a business partner who would do that for me.
