I've used the phrase 'taters' for years but didn't have a clue where it came from!

Also colder than a witches tit...

I wonder what people who live in the Baltic say?

TheDizzyRascal · 25/01/2019 09:52

No idea where it's from but we say "It's bimf" for freezing cold. A yorkshire thing maybe?

"Colder than a Polar Bears pocket" is one of my faves

GwenCooper81 · 25/01/2019 09:55

Brass monkeys

Perishing (still used by all in our part of Yorkshire).

SweetestThing · 25/01/2019 10:24

Tighnabruaich, my mum used to say "cold as a stepmother's breath" - I used it at work the other day (very cold stair well!) and got some strange looks....

(no offence intended to any stepmothers amongst us!)

LonelyandTiredandLow · 25/01/2019 10:29

I use nipply - like nippy but cold enough to make your nipple, well...
"Gosh it's nipply out there!" is something I say a lot and notice double takes. I forget it might be considered odd as am so used to saying it Grin

3out · 25/01/2019 10:39

That wind would cut right through you
It’s Baltic (haven’t ever heard arctic before!)

Angie169 · 25/01/2019 15:53

I agree of variations on the brass monkey theme
As a full sentence it would be southerners don't go out unless it's absolutely necessary take a shovel first aid kit and a thermos flask of coffee with you , northerners it's time to get your big coat out .
Frequently shortened to Northerners will need their big coat.

Even my Goosebumps have got goosebumps.
The Snowman has asked for an extra scarf
