Weighted blankets

Has anyone bought a weighted blanket and if so do you think they're worth the money?
I'm really struggling with sleeping at the minute due to various health conditions and general stress and was wondering if they are worth the £150-£200

I have only recently come across these and I really fancy getting one; but what do you all put underneath yours please?

Could I have my normal bedding (duvet) on the bed all day (I have got nice new duvet covers); and throw the weighted blanket over it all at night?

TwitterQueen1 · 24/01/2019 10:25

There is a review of then in the daily mail today. (Sorry) Sn uzi one is v good apparently

purpleunicorns · 24/01/2019 12:45

Ooh thanks TQ I'll look into them a bit more, although I do like the grey and purple one on there

1-finger typing in hospital so I couldn't link before, but it's [[

clearly I am just inept at everything today. HERE

Kikipost · 24/01/2019 12:52

Love it

NoParticularPattern · 24/01/2019 12:54

I don’t have a specific weighted one but I do have a wool duvet which is noticeably heavier to lie under than the synthetic one which we previously had. I can’t say I ever slept badly before, but there’s something very comforting and sleep improving about a heavier duvet over you. Plus it moves around less because of its weight! Sleep has improved (although again it wasn’t bad beforehand).

cjt110 · 24/01/2019 14:10

I can't sleep with one duvet on at home. We HAVE to have 2. Even in the summer. Consider doubling up with a normal blanket instead of paying silly money. You might hate it

purpleunicorns · 29/01/2019 11:30

I've took the plunge and ordered one Grin I've ordered this one. It takes 5-7 days delivery so I'll let you all know if it's any good when it turns up

I just bought one and it’s money very well spent. Game changer for sleep.

TadaTralala · 29/01/2019 11:57

Oh I love it, but I just pile about 3 duvets on top of me, it really feels snug, safe and warm. I put an extra on my DD when she is restless, it does make a difference.

Kikipost · 29/01/2019 12:01

Piling up duvets is not the same as a weighted blanket.

It’s the difference between wearing outside 4 thick cardigans on a freezing cold day or a kick-ass northface artic parka. Yes the former is cheap. Yes the former will keep you warm. But it’s not the same in term of comfort.

Op that’s the one I have. It is wonderful!!!! And if you don’t like, you have 28 days to return. So no risk

Lallybroch · 29/01/2019 12:28

I've been reading that these come in various weights, how do you choose what weight to buy?

purpleunicorns · 29/01/2019 12:34

Lally you need to order roughly 10% of your body weight

Kikipost · 29/01/2019 12:35

I wish I had gone a little heavier personally

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 29/01/2019 12:37

DS13 has had one since he was quite young and it's been amazing. We travel often and take it on flights to keep him calm (he has restless legs, too, and it helps with that massively). He has it on long car journeys, when he's had a rough day in school, even when he's been playing sport and feels achy.

RedCrab · 30/01/2019 07:19

Would it work for young children - say a four year old? My DD has always been a very restless sleeper and I’ve been wondering if it would help her.

purpleunicorns · 30/01/2019 08:08

RedCrab they have a sister site that does them for children with different patterns on

Kiki I was wondering about getting a heavier one, I've ordered the 8kg one so hopefully it's ok

IncyWincyGrownUp · 30/01/2019 09:09

They're epic.

I would never order from an Etsy seller or Facebook seller unless they had proper testing certification though, too much scope for something to be done wrong.

winsinbin · 30/01/2019 09:18

My DH sleep shouts and has night terrors. He sleeps through it all and has no memory of it in the morning but my sleep can be very disrupted by it. I bought a weighted blanket that he uses in his side of the bed under the duvet and it has improved things. He was dubious at first but finds it very comfortable now.

EngagedAgain · 30/01/2019 09:36

Sorry if anyone has said I've only quickly looked at thread, is there something in these weighed blankets that makes them heavier?

winsinbin · 30/01/2019 09:50

Tiny glass beads.

Hen2018 · 30/01/2019 10:10

I borrowed one from Autism West Midlands. It didn’t seem to do anything for DC2.

EngagedAgain · 30/01/2019 10:33

Thanks winsinbin ☺️
