Ours: found

Dd1 and her friend heard a distressed kitten crying in a ditch. Five days later and with the help of a trap we had a half-starved 3 month old feral kitten in our kitchen after years of me and dh saying we were not getting a catGrin

3 months later we are definately his slaves, even dh who was not a cat person

I've just got a new kitten. I've been planning on getting one for about 6 months and on Friday my mum sent me a message saying a friend of her's was selling. I was already going towards that town for something so off we went and picked her up. Spur of the moment but we love her and my daughter who has had a hard time recently is over the moon. She told me a couple of weeks ago that a kitten is the only thing that would make her feel betterGrin but I'd told her no as I wanted to wait a bit longer.

Oh no just saw it's for accidental cat ownersBlush my gran is an accidental cat owner. A cat appeared in her garden and she pretend complained about it and kidnapped it. The guy that owns it disappears from time to time leaving it roaming the streets. She's asked neighbours who know him to let him know where it's been staying but the guy has never contacted her.

Her owner went to jail. We said we’d look after her for a few days whilst they looked for a shelter . Felt sorry for her because she seemed so down and she’s been with us ever since - 9 years now. I told them that we weren’t giving her back after he came out of jail but this was after several years so felt justified.

Bunnybigears · 23/01/2019 17:54

We already had an adopted cat that liked to sit in the window and watch passers by. We get a knock at the door and there is a man standing their with a cardboard box a white van behind him with the engine running. I assume he is delivering a parcel so I put my hands out to take the box. As soon as the box is in my hands he walks back to his van calm as you like and drives off. In the box was a flea infested kitten too young to leave its mum. Its now a 3 year old happy cat who also sits in the window watching passers by.

MycatsaPirate · 23/01/2019 17:57

Cat 1 was already owned by dp when we got together. He is now obviously my cat.

Cat 2 was found. We kept her and she was absolutely lovely, sadly she got run over and died.

Cat 3 was one of two cats we adopted. The other cat in the pair made his way back to his previous owners. Repeatedly. In the end we signed him back over to them to reduce the risk of him being run over.

Cat 4 came from a friend who had just had a baby.

Cat 5 came from a rescue. We (DD and I) had only gone to have a walk round. But she had been in there for months being overlooked because of the kittens.

cat 6 used to live up the road. He moved into the cat house in the garden and then into our house. We got him signed over to us.

Cat 7 was also found. By someone else but I was asked to foster. She's a failed foster.

We currently have 6 in residence.

Dextrodependant · 23/01/2019 17:58

She lived in my house when I moved in. I am allergic to cats but we feed her and DD gives her a stroke and a cuddle.

The owner of the mother cat was an old work acquaintance of my mothers, she had mh issues and would keep letting the mum cat escape so it obviously came back pregnant.

the litter my girl came from was the third that year. The owner called my mother screaming she was going to drown them all, Iv given cats to loads of people all year, noone will take anymore etc etc so my mother called me to ask if I would help and take one.

My mother took one.

I took my girl (now my old lady, 16 years) she was the runt of the litter and no one was going to take her so I did even though I wasn't allowed pets in my flat! Which meant I then had to move bloody house.

I managed to find another person to rehome another one.

the other one did also get a home but I wasn't involved.

My mother then got the mum cat "done" so there would be no more surprise crisis situations.

It sounds terrible written down to be honest but I wouldn't change it I love my old girl more than I can express! Sadly her brother (my mothers cat) was run over and killed within 2 years of her getting him so we'll never know what he would have been like as an old man cat!

scaryteacher · 23/01/2019 18:03

Feline overlord #1 used to come and stay when his owner went away. Eventually, he didn't go home.

Feline overlord#2 had been abandoned and the cattery I use for Feline overlord#1 had taken him in. I thought he looked lovely, and he is still here 6 years later.

I am a total cat slave to the pair of them. I even made dh contort himself to get into bed last night to avoid disturbing #1 on his side of the bed and #2 who was sprawled on the blanket at the foot of the bed.

I luffs my boys.

BigcatLittlecat · 23/01/2019 18:08

#bunny that's an amazing story! I'm going to glue my big girl to the front window sill!!!

WhatNow40 · 23/01/2019 18:09

DH colleague at work was leaving her abusive husband. Had all he ducks lined up, but only housing she could find was private landlords and so she couldn't take the cat. Her DH was a dickhead and hated the cat. She was worried he would torture or kill the cat to get back at her. So we took the cat in, he was 4 yrs old.

3 yrs later she moved back in with him, I said straight away they weren't having the cat back!! She went on to have another baby with him but soon after she left again and for good.

We are his slaves now after 10 yrs and he rules in our house!

Chocolatecake12 · 23/01/2019 18:09

I accidentally looked at the local cat rescues web page and then my phone accidentally dialled their number and then I accidentally took a wrong turn and found myself driving onto the road where the rescue centre was.
Fast forward to now and we’ve accidentally been slaves to our boss cat for almost a year!

RedPandaMama · 23/01/2019 18:11

I used to go to guides when I was younger. One of the leaders who is mid-fifties has me on Facebook still. Saw her post saying her mum was deteriorating with dementia and sadly could no longer look after her cat and wanted to find it a good home rather than have it put down - she couldn't keep it herself as she has 3 large dogs.
I offered to take her and we've had her 2 years now. She's lovely! 16 years old but tiny, everyone asks if she's a kitten!

A friend of my MIL thought it was a good idea to get her a kitten to keep her company, completely disregarding the fact that she has MS and can’t get out of her chair without assistance!! Hence we acquired said kitten, and i love him to bits!!!

SagelyNodding · 23/01/2019 18:23

A friend of a friend couldn't cope with Dcat1-an unwanted gift from his daughter Angry At 10 months, she had wrecked his beautiful wallpaper and was desperate to get out of his flat. He gave us 100€ to get her vaccinated. He wasn't a bad person, but he obviously had a lot of issues.
14 years on, she is the Queen of the household, and extremely demanding!

Dcat2 is sadly departed, but was found as a starving kitten, and was very much loved from the moment we took him home...

spiderlight · 23/01/2019 18:26

Ours are no longer with us, but basically I moved into a rented flat with a cat flap in the back door, and about a week later, Cat 1 she strolled in and went 'Oh, hi - I live here now!' She was thin and had no collar, so after a couple of weeks of trying not to encourage her, asking round all the neighbours etc., I relented and started feeding her. It eventually transpired (from talking to a bloke who rented a garage behind the flat) that she was one of two surviving kittens left behind when the people in the flat above mine had moved out - three had died before they were found :( The people who'd lived in my flat before me had taken them in and kept them for a year or so, and then they'd done a runner and left her behind. He'd seen her crying in the alley but had never managed to catch her. Basically I'd moved into her flat, not the other way around. Had her for 16 years.

Cat 2 arrived when I took Cat 1 to the vet's one evening and there was an incredibly noisy and ridiculously cute one-eyed kitten dangling from the top of a cage in the room behind the treatment room. She'd been dumped in a box on someone's doorstep with horrible facial injuries and had had eye removed that day, and she wanted the world to know all about it. The vet casually left the door open while he went to fetch what he needed for Cat 1, and by the end of the appointment I had the phone number of the woman who'd brought her in. She was a little force of nature - lost her to lung cancer when she was 7, which was bitterly unfair.

GnothiSeafton · 23/01/2019 18:28

NDN was terminally ill. For yonks his 2 cats used to come into our garden and, in the good weather when we had the back door open most of the day, took it upon themselves to potter in and out of our house, which we didn't mind. About 9 months before NDN died we all realised the cats would have to be rehomed, so NDN and us came to an agreement that we'd take them over (NDN gave us their cat baskets and vets 'cards'). It was agreed we'd start feeding them, but they could still potter into next door too for visits. By the time he died, they were fully integrated here with us. So sad to lose a lovely neighbour Sad, but the cats are adored here - despite DP not being a huge fan of cats originally - in fact DP is more soppy than I am about them Grin

EnormousDormouse · 23/01/2019 18:34

Cat 1 was a little kitten grabbed out of the engine compartment of a friends car.
Cat 2 was a wailing kitten in a local supermarket carpark
Cat 3 I took off some of the neighbourhood kids who had him in a tiny cage - he was about 4 weeks old and sooooooo tiny
Cat 4 turned up at work with an injured leg - she was about 8 weeks.
....there may also be 3 kittens in my back bedroom that are with me until they are big enough to go back on the streets....

Glitteryfrog · 23/01/2019 18:43

Our cat was abandoned by her owner, then had the cheek to not get along with our friend's other cats who had taken her in. She came to live with us as an only cat and had us wrapped around her paws within about 20 seconds.

MamaDane · 23/01/2019 18:50

I was supposed to babysit my friend's cat and her newborn kittens while she traveled abroad for months. While she was away my friend didn't care what happened to the kittens, so I found them new homes (when they were old enough), except one who was really timid, no one wanted her. I gave the mummy cat back to my friend when she returned home. Then when the last kitten was 13 weeks, someone requested to see her.. But I then couldn't let her go. 6 years later and I couldn't imagine life without her.

I still miss her 3 sisters. Part of me wishes I'd have kept them. But yeah I accidentally became a cat mum because my friend had to visit her boyfriend abroad and because no one wanted the last kitten.

Icepinkeskimo · 23/01/2019 19:13

Two of mine had the most abysmal start in life, living with two crack heads, who then decided they didn't want them and threw them out to fend for themselves they were still kittens 😭. My friend came to me and ask if I would take them, I was still grieving for my big boy cat who had passed away a few months before, I was heartbroken.

My boy loved other cats, and I knew he would have been happy to know I had given these two a home. They arrived in a cardboard box, tiny little starved things, crawling with fleas scared witless, and the sound of their breathing was laboured it was awful. It took months to that 'turnaround' point but we got there. I was living in dread that the crackheads would be knocking at my door but thank god it never happened. That was four years ago and they are the most beautiful furfaces who I love and adore 🥰

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/01/2019 19:14

My cat who is no longer with us was the result of a night in the pub, first Friday night, do you want a kitten, me, I will think about it, second Friday night, you can pick it up tomorrow. He was the best cat ever, moved into the pub when I went on holiday, dogs were terrified of him

mummyhaschangedhername · 23/01/2019 19:24

The kids came and told me one day a cat was playing with them in the garden, yeah sure I said. Then I saw it. There was a cat following the children around and letting them play with her.

We definitely didn’t want a cat, we already had a house cat.

The next day, cat came back to play with the children. It was very underweight and it’s coat quite manky but she has a collar on. The next day it was waiting when the children got home from school. I guess I should add her I have four very boisterous children and we are a very noisy household. So we started asking around. No one was missing a cat but a few neighbours had fed it, we didn’t dare as we didn’t want to encourage it, but back it kept coming, it would even follow the children inside and I would chase it our again.

A few days later we had a BBQ and she stole a sausage, we left her some water down and back she kept coming. Eventually we had tried loads of places to find its owner, asking, Facebook groups and found notices. Just over a week before she arrived we were going away for a week. So we fed her her “last supper” and left anticipating never to see her again.

We arrived home a week later and she was waiting for us. It melted our heart. So we fed her and noticed she had worms, so took her to the vet who checked her for a microchip and treated her for worms, fleas etc ... she that she would give her over to the cat rescue for rehoming or we could keep her. So we paid for all her vaccinations and she officially became ours.

We often wonder where she came from. She has been with us for 2 years now. She has her own cat flap so can come and go as she pleases but if we are home she is here. She brings us rats and birds occasionally, but mostly she’s a very homely cat. She loves sitting on our laps, follows us around the house and our of the house, she will follow the cat to visit relatives (my parents and grandparents lives literally around the corner and a lot of times when we walk around she follows us, she goes in and eats my parents cats food), she follows us the children to school and comes and meets us when we get home.

Our cats tolerate each other, it’s quite funny seeing their interactions and our older cat has learnt new things from the new cat.

She’s so lovely though. It’s completely bizarre why she turned up one day. Why she puts up with the children who she seems to adore and how she shows so much loyalty to us. I don’t know if her owners died or moved away or if she maybe belonged to the owners of the house before us. But it’s strange. She’s the sweetest thing ever (unless your a rat) ... I really wish I knew her story before ours. She’s still fairly young though, maybe a year when she turned up.

I took an unused pet carrier and other bits to donate to Cats Protection, but came home with the carrier and a cat inside it 😻
