I bloody love porridge. I eat it almost everyday!
What are your favourite porridge toppings?
I'm after some new ideas.

My go-to is tablespoon of runny honey, but recently discovered sliced banana and peanut butter. If a friend who has chopped bacon on hers. Not one im keen on trying!

FraxinusExcelsior · 22/01/2019 22:41

After years of putting too much brown sugar on mine, I make it vegan and sugar free now - a spoon of cacao powder in the mix then just water to cook and a teaspoon of vanilla essence too.

A handful of raisins or a chopped banana 2 mins before serving, a splash of almond milk or oat milk and it's lovely luxury porridge!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/01/2019 22:44

Dear God, people please, I have to go to bed now and all I can think of is porridge, lovely, lovely porridge......
fuzzy mmm, interesting, how do you do the eggs? Is it like Japanese style breakfast rice, stir in the raw egg to cook in the heat of the oats?

I have mine with soya milk and white miso. Yum.

ZootSuit · 22/01/2019 22:46

scaryteacher maple syrup flakes you say? Where can I find them?!

SageYourResoluteOracle · 22/01/2019 23:00

I want porridge now! 'Tis my favourite thing next to plain greek yoghurt. I've tried every single topping suggested with the exception of salsa!

How long until breakfast?!

thereallifesaffy · 23/01/2019 08:15

Goody a porridge thread!
Frozen cherries cooked into the mix. Mmmmmmm!!!!!
And what others have said about Apple and cinnamon, and mashed banana.
I also like to add chia seeds for some different texture.

2019StandingforWomen · 23/01/2019 08:16

I have a chopped banana in mine every morning

cloudtree · 23/01/2019 08:17

Sugar and evaporated milk. Blush but delicious

owlonabike · 23/01/2019 08:18

Cinnamon.
Blueberries.
Cinammon and blueberries. We have just this minute eaten the last of the frozen home-grown blueberries and I am very sad. Bought ones don’t compare. Ah well, there are raspberries in the freezer.

Penninepain · 23/01/2019 08:20

Can I ask about frozen berries please? Think i must be doing it wrong......
I have been defrosting a bowl of berries, then stirring them into cooked porridge, but tbh, might as well just stir jam in, they are so mushy.
Am i doing it wrong?

Also, bananas, walnuts and maple syrup are a delicious topping

Penninepain · 23/01/2019 08:21

*is a delicious topping

IsabelleSE19 · 23/01/2019 08:23

We had it this morning - I'm still eating mine, which was banana and raspberries. DS = maple syrup and raspberries, DD = nuts and syrup

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/01/2019 08:25

coconut sugar (sounds try-hard but it's in Aldi) and a bit of brown sugar and sultanas

my favourite posh one is macadamia nuts and white chocolate

GlasgowWorrier · 23/01/2019 08:27

i make it with water, then have a tablespoon of double cream on top. Which balances out in my head, somehow.

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/01/2019 08:27

I have some coconut milk (the milk substitute Alpro kind, not coconut milk for making curries) and some peanut butter-chocolate spread hybrid that I plan to make porridge with.

Normal porridge doesn't fill me up and seems to make me even hungrier, but I'm hoping the coconut peanut cocoa version will be better.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 23/01/2019 08:29

Banana and peanut butter together. Miles better if soaked overnight. I’m low carbing and I really miss it

MysweetAudrina · 23/01/2019 08:30

Granola
Apple
Apple, raisins and cinnamon
berries and greek yogurt

ALemonyPea · 23/01/2019 08:35

Grated carrot and cinnamon added while cooking

STEWED RHUBARB.

That is all.

fussychica · 23/01/2019 09:49

Cinnamon honey and blueberries.

GMtoBe · 23/01/2019 09:53

Raspberries and peanut butter
Chopped apple and cinnamon
Brown sugar and double cream
Bananas and dates
Strawberry jam and mixed seeds

I love porridge!

PestoSnowissimos · 23/01/2019 09:59

Tinned prunes in a bit of their syrup!

FuzzyShadowChatter · 23/01/2019 10:33

Judashascomeintosomemoney Great name Grin. I tend to crack in an egg or two before adding milk and stir them all in together before cooking, then add the salsa shortly before it's done. For me, it's just lovely and I find the added protein perks me up and keeps me going longer than just oats or adding anything sweet to oats.

thereallifesaffy · 23/01/2019 13:38

Ooo blob of non fat Greek yoghurt on top is yum
