Builder in Liverpool damaging travelodge

Anyone seen the builder in Liverpool destroying a travelodge because they owe him money apparently? Shock

He almost put the digger on top of someone too at one point. Hope it's not just a publicity stunt, but there's videos of people inside filming it too while he's demolishing stuff.

Saw it just a short while ago. Apparently he snapped after not being paid his wages £600 I'm sure!

Workfear · 21/01/2019 21:39

Bit of an extreme reaction from him.

Maybe an extreme reaction but for all we know he could be facing repossession of his home without that money, it could be the latest payment of a long list not paid. The reaction is unacceptable but he has clearly snapped for some reason. What if his kids haven't eaten all week and then not getting paid?

macaroniandpizza · 21/01/2019 21:43

Safe to say he can kiss goodbye to his £600 of unpaid wages now....

mummy2three2014 · 21/01/2019 21:44

It was, but I can only imagine that he's been after it for a while to get to this point of snapping. Unfortunately he's went about it the wrong way. But maybe the guys got rent to pay bills and kids to feed. Shame it's went that far cause he's not got a chance in getting anything now apart from probably a court date.

joanmcc · 21/01/2019 21:55

Good for him.

AfterSchoolWorry · 21/01/2019 22:00

Yeah, saw it. He snapped, wonder what happened?

Workfear · 22/01/2019 09:35

Yeah hope he wasn't struggling and needed that money, but looks like he probably did to react like that. Still a stupid thing to do, he almost ran over one guy.

That's quite some rage isn't it? The hotel was just finished too.

He's now in a whole lot of trouble and he is owed £600.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/01/2019 09:39

I didn't know anything about it and I'm from Liverpool.
Will google it now

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/01/2019 09:54

I'm not condoning what he did. You can't condoning it. He could have killed or seriously injured someone.
However at the same time seeing as thankfully no one was hurt. I'd be also be lying if I said I condemn this blokes anger.
The "well off" manager running around like a headles chicken was not happy. Well why wasn't the bloke paid.

itsbritneybiatches · 22/01/2019 09:56

There was just a call in on Jeremy vine about it

ShalomJackie · 22/01/2019 10:01

I doubt that a manager of a Travelodge is "well off".

Yes it is bad that he hadn't been paid and there should be some form of laws or regulations regarding non-payment of invoices within a certain timescale where there are no disputes - that is a separate issue.

Now he will owe considerably more than £600, will end up with a conviction for criminal damage if not worse. Has he really "won" or achieved anything? No.

BreakWindandFire · 22/01/2019 10:03

I think every freelancer and self-employed person feels his pain!

(but yes, he nearly injured someone so not a good move)

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/01/2019 10:05

Oh The old Plassey's building. My nan and mum used to work there. Mind you I think everyone in Liverpool has family or relatives who worked in Plessys

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/01/2019 10:09

I reckon £600 means it was his wages going back to before Xmas. I suspect it made Xmas very tight for him especially if he has children and if his employer promised him it in the new year and we all know how tight January is then I can understand him snapping. My dad is a labourer and he went 12 weeks without getting paid last summer. Luckily my mum earns well so they were able to cope but if this guy is the only earner in his family I can see how he would be at breaking point.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/01/2019 10:13

He'll probably be liable for damages now. He'll be kissing goodbye to a lot more than £600.
However would a good solicitor be able to get him off with (is the word
immitgating circumstances). Arguing if hed have paid a fair days pay for a fair days work. There is no argument that this very likely wouldn't have happened

Whisky2014 · 22/01/2019 10:14

He'll have more things to worry about than £600 now. Silly action to take.

UnderHerEye · 22/01/2019 10:14

There seems to be a bit of societal trend at the moment of people dismissing dangerous behaviour because people ‘snap’, you can see the rage that this guy is acting out and by saying oh but ‘he just snapped’ I think is minimising the violence here.

How would you feel about reports of women being beaten and/or killed by men who ‘just snapped’ or children being killed by parents who ‘just snapped’ ?

There are many people out there who have shit things happen to them, they don’t go around taking their rage out on others though. I think the man needs utterly condemning for his actions.

Whisky2014 · 22/01/2019 10:15

Good for him

Wtf

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 22/01/2019 10:18

I would imagine the money he was owed was from before Christmas, and after months chasing it and probably being fobbed off he snapped. I have great sympathy for those who are self employed. I've often heard that big companies are the worst to get payment from and they assume they can keep you waiting for as long as they please.

The poor bloke van hardly turn around to his mortgage company and say sorry I'll pay you when I get paid. His actions are not that of someone who has only had to wait a few extra days for payment. It's clear that this has built up over time and he couldn't take it any more.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/01/2019 10:21

Maybe an extreme reaction but for all we know he could be facing repossession of his home without that money, it could be the latest payment of a long list not paid. The reaction is unacceptable but he has clearly snapped for some reason. What if his kids haven't eaten all week and then not getting paid?

I'm guessing (and of course it is only a guess) that something like this is what led to his actions. There's a part of me that wants to applaud him as clients/employers/contractors get away with so much piss-taking out of the "little guy" (and, if he is self-employed, I'd bet that wasn't even his choice).

But no, if he'd asked us on here in advance, I think we'd all have said "YABU" and/or assumed he was being lighthearted Confused

Whisky2014 · 22/01/2019 10:21

No, you don't go and rip down a building at the same time of risking life because you haven't been paid £600.
He could have gone to small claims court...

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/01/2019 10:23

Just looking at all the money I’ve had to pay out since my DC went back to school two weeks ago I wouldn’t be surprised if it was as simple as not being able to pay for swimming lesson or something that tipped him over.

Stinkytoe · 22/01/2019 10:24

Certainly do not c”ondone this, it’s a huge over reaction and won’t have done him any good either and will probably get him a criminal record.

There are so many instances of massive corporations completely screwing over individuals though and there needs to be more easily accessible ways for us to legally to action.
