Builder in Liverpool damaging travelodge

Anyone seen the builder in Liverpool destroying a travelodge because they owe him money apparently? Shock

He almost put the digger on top of someone too at one point. Hope it's not just a publicity stunt, but there's videos of people inside filming it too while he's demolishing stuff.

Seems there's a crowdfunding page for him now.

I work in credit control for a small business which supplies specialist materials to, among others, the construction industry.

I have been chasing a globally-known huge multimillion corporation for payment of an invoice we sent them 4 months ago, and got absolutely nowhere. They signed a contract agreeing to abide by our payment terms and they are totally ignoring us. In this case it is only a small sum, but the principle is the same, isn't it? If it was well into the thousands, and we were up to our overdraft limit, how would we be able to pay our own bills or staff wages?

One of our other customers has admitted this week that they can't pay us because their biggest customer hasn't paid them.

The big guys at the top hold the little guys to ransom. Unless you accept their payment terms you lose the business altogether. The people right at the bottom of the pile get paid last, and I can quite understand why this bloke had reached the end of his tether.

Wow, sounds like he just didn't get paid when he expected but was due to get paid the next week. And people have put 5grand into a crowdfund for him.

You can’t just dilly dally with someone’s wages. What if he had been waiting for his wages for a long time? He just appears to be taking back his labour.

MyFriendGoo5 · 24/01/2019 21:39

He hasn't been arrested. He's been sectioned.

Apparently his family had been trying to get him help for weeks before this happened........not bring paid and his boss refusing to speak to him obviously tipped him over the edge.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 24/01/2019 21:57

That’s really sad. I hope those that were responsible for delaying his pay feel really fucking disgusted with themselves. I bet it’s not the first person they’ve done it to either. Poor guy.

AnotherPidgey · 25/01/2019 07:45

When Carillion folded last year, lots of small businesses spoke up saying that they refused to work for them due to non or delayed payment which is rife through the building industry, and other industries too.

Surely the only positive that can come out of this is that we are discussing the problem of individuals/ small businesses not being paid. Most small businesses fail due to cash flow problems rather than the business not being viable.

The Travelodge will afford the repairs.
The man won't get his £600. He will suffer the legal consequences to his actions, as will his family. His actions were completely wrong, but I can understand the motivation behind them.

Workfear · 25/01/2019 08:32

I dunno if it's that they were late or he misunderstood. The company is saying he misunderstood and its a big mistake. They said he worked for one week and he would be paid the following week, which is usually how weekly paid jobs work. Well they did for me. But he thought he would be paid the day he finished.

Doubt it will ever be made clear who is telling the truth.

I'm not sure a labourer would get £600 after tax for one week's work.

Elfinablender · 25/01/2019 09:01

And, then, why did his colleague shake his hand and others come out in support, did they all start the week earlier?

MyFriendGoo5 · 25/01/2019 10:17

I think the fact a bloke who'd just had to leap for safety then shook his hand says it all........I actually hope more self employed people start responding in this manner. Not quite to that extent obviously but ripping out unpaid for work seems fair to me.
