Who's your favourite minor character in Harry Potter?

I think mine is Oliver Wood.

I reread the whole lot over the summer and realised I really missed Quidditch in general when it receded in importance after PoA!

Lockhart is hilarious.
Hedwig, she can’t speak, but you know what she’s thinking.

Chinks123 · 22/01/2019 11:19

Sir Cadogan and peeves, I’m still sad they weren’t in the films.
Most of the funniest parts of the books like the little one liners haven’t been translated over to the films. Dd loves them but I know when she’s old enough she’ll love the books 10000% more.

Isth · 22/01/2019 11:22

I was in love with Oliver Wood back in the day, so I have to say him.
But Seamus gets a special mention for being a ridiculous, firey little fucker... and I always liked angelina and Katie

Ron's girlfriend Lavender brown. Think she's brilliant. Esp when she calls him "won won"

badreams · 22/01/2019 11:50

Lucius Malfoy and Barty Crouch Jr for me, if you count either of those as minor?

celticecho · 22/01/2019 11:52

Mrs Weasley - "not my daughter, you bitch!" is such a fierce line! She probably doesn't count as a minor character though.

Oliver Wood was awesome too!

DoneAdulting · 22/01/2019 12:12

Hedwig for me too, she has such personality and I loved her and Harry's very short scenes. When Ron gets Pig and Hedwig is appalled, she stands perfectly still with her leg out while Harry attaches a letter, as if to show Pig how a real post owl should behave.

Grumpbum123 · 22/01/2019 12:16

Luna lovegood for me. I found the casting of moaning mrytle a bit weird especially in the GoF when she’s basically perking over Harry in the bath

elliejjtiny · 22/01/2019 12:18

Molly Weasley. Love how she spends most of the books being a mum and cooking for everyone. Then in the final battle she gets to fight and is just amazing.

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 22/01/2019 12:21

Have you all forgotten CHARLIE WEASLEY??????

Isth · 22/01/2019 13:06

Oooh I wouldn’t have classed any of the weasleys as minor characters but Charlie always made me swoon 😂

QuimReaper · 22/01/2019 13:36

It's difficult to draw hard and fast rules about what counts as minor - for instance, I was going to say "so anyone outside of the Weasleys, the Marauders, the Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore's Army" but then I realised I was thinking of just the core DA members who go to the ministry, and there are loads of other randos like Marietta; similarly with the OOTP, there are people there whom we only meet for ten seconds like Hestia Jones; also Charlie Weasley does make very fleeting appearances, so he does seem quite minor... etc.

It’s the fleeting nature of his appearances which made Charlie so swoon-worthy, such a man of mystery 😂

Another vote for Oliver Wood. If I had been a teenage HP fan I'd have spent my time writing fanfic about him and Percy Weasley. Blush

Also love Vernon Dursley. Not a likable character by any means but a very entertaining one! I also think that, while he portrayed Vernon excellently, Richard Grittiths would have also been perfect as Slughorn. It's him I picture when I read the books.

ElderMcKinley · 22/01/2019 14:16

*Richard Griffiths would have done a good job as well. HmmGrin

QuimReaper · 22/01/2019 14:39

elder Oliver and Percy?! Oh my, the forbidden love of the Quidditch Star and the prefect...! Grin

I guess they do both get to use the fancy bathroom, it's rotten with possibility.

Fifty Shades of Bubble Bath...Grin

McGonagall is my favourite character by a mile. It unscrews the other way.

If she doesn't count as minor then Phineas Nigellus.

I think major characters are, in order:
Harry
Hermione
Ron
Snape
Dumbledore
Fred & George
Mr & Mrs Weasley
Sirius
Lupin
Voldemort
Ginny
Malfoy

That's probably about it. Hagrid? The rest of the Weasleys aren't in it consistently enough, not even Percy. Then I'd class Luna and Neville pretty highly, and McGonagall.

AzraiL · 22/01/2019 15:02

Luna Lovegood and Arthur Weasley.

Also, I hate that Hermione ended up with Ron. I really thought it would have been much more interesting if she had ended up with Draco.

QuimReaper · 22/01/2019 15:06

I think Hermione and Krum were great. He was a terrific character.

OP posts:
Halfahunnerstillastunner · 22/01/2019 15:34

I would say Hagrid and Neville would both count as major characters.

I agree with Magonagall and Luna. Such strong characters in their own way.

They did pick a very handsome young chap to play Wood in the films, easy on the eye and ear, love his accent.

Hedwig is just marvellous. We met one of the owls that had played Hedwig (there was more than one in real life obv) and I thought DC was going to explode with excitement. I tell a lie it was me

BearSoFair · 22/01/2019 15:53

Neville's Gran
Bill Weasley

Neville is my favourite character in books and film but I don't think you could class him as minor.

NewYoiker · 22/01/2019 17:02

Book Ginny is the 10000000% better than film Ginny. I like peeves ❤️

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 22/01/2019 17:14

Love the idea of andy Murray as Oliver Wood, total genius.
Madam Bones is an interesting one too.
