Who's your favourite minor character in Harry Potter?

I think mine is Oliver Wood.

I reread the whole lot over the summer and realised I really missed Quidditch in general when it receded in importance after PoA!

Lee for me too - funny but polite - “Sorry professor!”

IdblowJonSnow · 21/01/2019 12:30

Moaning myrtle was pretty funny in books and films. Am slowly rereading them as my daughter gets them. Forgot Dobby dies!

Mad Eye or Dobby

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 21/01/2019 12:43

A tie between Arthur and Neville.

madeyemoodysmum · 21/01/2019 12:44

Slug horn

listsandbudgets · 21/01/2019 12:44

Prof. Flitwick ... he's just ace. I loved him leaving part of the swamp Fred and George produced just because it was such a good bit of magic .. and telling Umbridge that he could have got rid of the fireworks but "wasn't sure he had the authority"

And Binns... so deadly boring he didn't eve notice he was dead and just carried on teaching

Greensleeves · 21/01/2019 12:45

Oliver Wood is the same person as Andy Murray in my mind Blush

My favourite minor character is probably Slughorn. So well-drawn.

wanderings · 21/01/2019 13:12

Mad-Eye Moody, and Luna Lovegood are two of fine, both brilliantly cast in the films. Also the cantankerous Filch and librarian Madam Pince. "Chocolate in the library!!!!! Out out out!""

Phineas Nigellus had some great moments, especially in the last three books. When Harry is frustrated that Dumbledore still won't tell him anything apart from "stay where you are", Phineas retorts "You know, this is precisely why I loathed being a teacher! Young people are so convinced they know what's best."

It was he who originally had the famous line "You know, Minister, I disagree with Dumbledore on many counts, but you can't deny he's got style".

SanFranBear · 21/01/2019 13:15

Sorry to be a nob but it's Lee Jordan...

I adore Gilderoy Lockhart - he is such a pleasure to read aloud!!

Weezol · 21/01/2019 13:20

I always wanted to know more about the witch who did the refreshments on the Hogwarts Express.

From the films, Mr Weasley. The casting was perfect.

wanderings · 21/01/2019 13:23

@Weezol As for the witch who does the refreshment trolley: she has an unexpectedly important role in the stage play, and reminisces about a certain thing previous students have tried to do, that it's her job to prevent. I haven't seen the play, but I've read the book of the scripts.

Dobbyhasnomaster · 21/01/2019 13:47

Flitwick, Cedric diggory, and for some strange reason always had a soft spot for mafalda hopkirk 🤷‍♀️

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 21/01/2019 14:52

Yeah, you need toread/watch Cursed Child, Weezol.

Voldethought · 21/01/2019 14:55

Not sure he counts as a minor character, but I love Neville Longbottom in both the books and the films.

SuburbanCrofter · 21/01/2019 14:57

Not sure he counts as 'minor', but Neville. He's not a conventional hero - not handsome or cool, and gets overlooked in favour of Harry but he is always brave and principled, and saves the day on more than one occasion.

SuburbanCrofter · 21/01/2019 14:58

Oooh spooky Voldethought !

RolandDeschainsGilly · 21/01/2019 14:59

Peeves

RomanyRoots · 21/01/2019 15:02

Another one for moaning Myrtle

DanglyBangly · 21/01/2019 15:02

Sir Cadogan

DanglyBangly · 21/01/2019 15:04

And yes to Oliver Wood!

‘Where’s Wood?’

‘Still in the showers. We think he’s trying to drown himself’

StoatofDisarray · 21/01/2019 15:04

Ollivander, and Xenophilius Lovegood. And Colin Creevy!

I also loathe Tonks, she's such a cliche Camden alternative Mary Sue.

JellycatElfie · 21/01/2019 15:08

Neville’s grandmother!

QuimReaper · 22/01/2019 11:04

SanFran of course it is!

I can't say I'm wild about Tonks either, but what I did like about her was truly lost in the films. Happened to so many characters, it's a real shame.

Oliver Wood as Andy Murray Shock I can't shake my initial Wood Mental Image (from long before AM was known) but I see exactly what you mean!

Oh yes, Neville's gran is magnificent. I love how fiercely proud she is of Frank and Alice, and when she takes down Dawlish.

When I reread CoS I laughed aloud at Lockhart's get Well Soon card to Hermione which he signs 'Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin Third Class, five-times winner of Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award'... etc. It hadn't really struck me how funny that is when I was a kid.
