Lots of things over the years but last summer managed to get a metal splinter through my thumb nail. Was right in the middle. Most of it was dug out in MIU but it took 2 months for the rest to grow out.

Ecoli after ds was born. Found unconscious at home and was blue lighted into hospital. Was in for 5 days without DS when he was 6 days old.

Wow! Was it the hospital food?

I broke my ankle on a zip wire a few years ago, had to be carried back though a forest in a wheelbarrow Grin

Wow @mybreadiseggy despite all that you sound incredibly lucky to still be here! What situation was the explosion if you don't mind me asking?

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 21/01/2019 20:15

Broke my neck

Ended up have C6 C6 discectomy and fusion

Happened 17 years ago... still have a weakness down one side and now have built up shoes and joint problems

wineandcats I was in the army - my only tour of duty overseas. I won’t name the country or the regiment as it would be very outing!
Alls well that ends well though - while a few involved had nasty injuries, all made a full recovery, no one lost any limbs, and no one was killed! So all in all, I have a lot to be grateful for! My surgeons did a beautiful job on my legs too - I have a couple of very neat surgical scars which are only visible if I’m in my underwear, and a small patch of visible burn scarring on my left lower leg. A couple of fainter scars on the backs of my arms from where glass/shards of metal were removed but I came off a lot better than I could have doneSmile

Broken clavicle twice in 3 years. Sorer now that it's 'fixed' than it was when I did it the second time 6 months ago. This is it fixed....

Torn knee ligament.
I screamed like I'd never screamed before.
I've had kids, dislocated toes and broken bones, but that torn knee ligament was the worse.

weegiemum · 21/01/2019 20:55

My ankle fracture - I broke my ankle in 3 places and also dislocated it, and it was an open fracture - bones poking through the skin and everything. I lost a lot of blood and there was a 50/50 chance I'd lose my foot. They kept bringing medical students and junior doctors to see it.

The skin was very fragile as it healed and about 11 months later I got cellulitis which progressed rapidly to sepsis and I was really really ill. Lost most of my kidney function, though it's all fine now. Leg still has significant oedema and I'm battling yet another leg ulcer right now.

All from tripping over a ball of wool.

Brain injury from a bad fall doing roller disco, crashed down straight on to the back of my head, and very nearly broke my neck. My neck still looks deformed nearly 4 years down the line, smashed all my ribs up. Didn't bother going to the hospital till the next day. Collar and boarded there and then and sent for X-rays, thought I'd escaped with just severe whiplash. Ended up in hospital for a week later on after displaying all the signs of a stroke. CT scanned and given a lumbar puncture and Im left with neurological issues, prone to anger issues, and bouts of tearfulness, next three most painful injuries are broken fingers doing a handstand when I was 9 Falling over ice skating and breaking my coccyx and the other one slipping into the bath, smashed my leg and groin up, bust my lip on the tap ans ended up with the biggest bruise going

safariboot · 21/01/2019 21:38

Broken leg, skiing last year. Not a bad break but my foot and ankle are still sore and stiff sometimes.

Most painful, though, was a dental abscess. The broken leg was nothing compared to dental pain.

Accountant222 · 21/01/2019 21:54

Deep vein thrombosis but the worst thing was an ulcer on my cornea, excruciating painful

wineandcatsandlego · 21/01/2019 23:43

Goodness me @mybreadiseggy how fortunate you all came away intact (horrid turn of phrase sorry can't think of a better way to word it Blush)

CosmicComet · 21/01/2019 23:49

I cut halfway through my thumb down to the bone. DF sellotaped it back on. With hindsight it probably should have been stitched, but when your DF tells you it’s ok you believe him! It’s still a bit numb.

Also broke my front teeth as a kid. It has blighted my life because it’s so unsightly.

MyBreadIsEggy · 22/01/2019 07:57

wineandcats no, you’re right. Just pure luck really!! It was pretty much just skin and ligaments holding my leg onto my body at the hip - but the skin wasn’t broken at all. That’s like some sort of miracle in itself.

CMOTDibbler · 22/01/2019 08:39

Fell off a horse and landed on my hand. Broke 7 bones in my wrist, dislocated through the small bones, broke my elbow, disassociated the long bones in my forearm and shoved my radius through a nerve. I then also got compartment syndrome after surgery 4 through abysmal nursing.
I now have my whole wrist fused, no rotation of my forearm, can't straighten my elbow properly or put any weight through it, no finger function and partial thumb movement. Massive scarring and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) which is like having constant burns.
Hand surgeon described it as the worst hand injury he'd seen and I'd have been way better off having it cut off as they could have reattached with a lot better function

footandankle · 23/01/2019 21:37

Outing so I've name changed!

6 years ago I had an operation to straighten out my shin bone as it had grown the wrong way, condition called External Tibial Torsion. Operation went wrong, ended up having a further 7 operations within the space on 14 week as I had a deep bone infection! Finished off with severe nerve damage.

2 years ago I had an operation to try correct the damage caused by my previous 8 operations. I'm now left with no feeling and no movement in my ankle and my foot!

It's bloody horrible.
