No state help at all salary (after tax) of 15,300 per year. £1275 per month
Rent £400pcm for a flat. Would £875 be enough for food, bills etc?
I know it’s a bit ambiguous but assuming minimal Internet package and no TV and a basic/cheap food spend, would I Be alright? I’m a single woman, no kids.
Thank you in advance for any insight

Blimey yes, plenty enough as long as you’re not say paying several hundred on a train ticket.

Our council tax is 88 pm without any discounts so the OP could easily be paying 70 with single person discount.

Not having travel costs for work will help enormously, but whether you can live on that money depends a lot on your expectations, it will cover the basics and have some leftover but you won't have oodles of money for lots of discretionary spending, you will need to make choices.

Forgot to say that if there is good mobile Internet signal in the flat you might be able to manage without separate broadband but obviously need to consider if you need it for streaming.

£70 Council tax single person is perfectly reasonable. I paid that on my previous house. I earned similar too, after tax and student loan and pension came out. Ii was a teacher back then. I also managed to put some money away in savings. Cheap Internet package, Freeview box. Didn't have time for watching telly anyway.

yes I think those posters do live in a different world

This is Mumsnet. People think organic everything and unlimited blueberries from Waitrose is normal basic shopping and the minimum acceptable house is one in the right village near the right schools with a separate bedroom for every occupant. Candles cost £50 and holidays start at £5k. Compromise on anything is unthinkable. Meanwhile, back in the real world....

My caretaker earns that and pays more rent. It's a typical salary around here. £8/hour
