So I work in a professional area (a lot of responsibility). Earlier today
I felt a little wooshy (low blood sugar) and I know a fellow colleague has some Pepsi in her drawer, so I helped myself to one , I noticed the cap was already twisted off , but no liquid was missing, drank 1/2 a bottle ,I plan to replace it tom with a little note of thanks .
However that was 1/2 an hour ago , and I feel , well tipsy ?
My question is , how do I approach this ??? I cant prove it was tampered with , or that is has ?alcohol in it ?
Do I approach my colleague and feign ignorance ? Do I report this to a manager ?

Hahahahaha nope.

HollowTalk · 16/01/2019 23:19

I think you should never ever admit to anyone that you have done this, OP.

treaclesoda · 17/01/2019 02:38

I note the OP didn't return.

However, I also re-read the OP and noticed they said that the colleague has some Pepsi in her drawer and she helped herself to one. The implication being that there was more than one. So why would she choose one that is already open? Makes the whole odd story seem even more odd.

Damn this is actually a great idea, I had a very cheap bottle of flavoured water nicked from our work fridge. I may plant one with some vodka in and see if I can spot the thief from the after effects! 😂

flumpybear · 17/01/2019 04:03

You cheeky cow! How dare you go into someone else's stuff!! Served you right if it had booze, drugs or laxatives in it!!

Mind your own business and give back what you stole from her

Fromage · 17/01/2019 11:11

Good lord.

Is everyone not aware that a bottle of Pepsi is, what, a quid? Two?

And do we understand the difference between 'private, confidential, personal items' and 'bottle of drink?'

If the Pepsi were hidden under her medical files and the OP went through them first - fair enough, I'd be pissed off if I were her colleague. But some of you are incredibly uncharitable, and fast to jump to conclusions.

But on the other hand, if the colleague were drinking and the job involved, I dunnon, child protection or driving or using machinery - well that's a bit different.

I can't believe how worked up some of you are about the "theft" when the OP suspects her colleague of drinking on the job. I think that's the issue. And how I would deal this would depend on my relationship with my colleague, the line of work we were in, and what the effects of the consumption would be.

theworldistoosmall · 17/01/2019 11:47

A bottle of drink is a personal item.
It might just be a quid or two to you. I assume you take cash/cards with you to work? I don't or I take the amount I need for that day.
Having someone nick my sweet drink would be disastrous because I have low sugar at times. And so I always ensure I have something sweet with me. That bottle would be my sweet thing for the day and I would be fucked as I don't like sugar in tea/coffee.
If I was quick enough I would be able to get to the nearest shop in time before I passed out. All because some selfish, thieving cunt decided my drink was basically theirs.

If you suspect a colleague is drinking, you raise this with their manager. What you don't do is rifle through their stuff and steal their belongings.

TheShiteRunner · 17/01/2019 11:53

"I stole my colleague's ipad but I've found out that she's been using it to access fb during the working day! Should I tell our boss?"
Bloody hell OP.

Cobblersandhogwash · 17/01/2019 12:06

It's theft. Whether it's a paper clip, a bottle of Pepsi or a diamond ring. It's theft.

Op, I think you need you keep your paws to yourself. And your snout our of other people's business.

BartonHollow · 17/01/2019 12:19

FWIW, around last August or so, a colleague rummaged through my desk without asking to find a personal item of mine she wanted to use. I raised a grievance and she was disciplined

watt36 · 17/01/2019 12:28

😂😂😂

katykins85 · 17/01/2019 14:51

Not a chance is the OP coming back, she knows full well she was out of order!

dustarr73 · 17/01/2019 22:27

She is still drunkGrin

flumpybear · 18/01/2019 06:19

I think @Fromage is the OP

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/01/2019 06:25

You’ve got a bloody nerve OP. Keep your hands to yourself.

Starlight90 · 18/01/2019 07:15

My main concern is you put your mouth on another persons bottle 🤮 spit🤮 vomit inducing.

HoraceCope · 18/01/2019 07:17

your colleagues reaction to your theft should be enough

icelollycraving · 18/01/2019 07:20

How’s your head this morning op? Grin
Ywbu to go through someone’s desk and then drink from an opened bottle.

icelollycraving · 18/01/2019 07:56

Also, make sure replace with exactly the same type of Pepsi, leave no note.

ABoozedMoose · 18/01/2019 08:19

I'm not convinced that anybody is really that cheeky as to nick stuff from someone's drawers but if you did then maybe it was a sugar-free version which wouldn't have sorted out your low sugar and would explain why you continued to feel woozy.

mysteryfairy · 18/01/2019 08:32

I think the OP is getting an unduly hard time. I borrow trivial stuff from colleagues (paracetamol, tissues, cleaning wipes) and vice versa all the time - could easily be an office where that is normal. I've also had the issue of someone secretly drinking at work to deal with and it's extremely difficult and sensitive, but does need to be addressed both for the well-being of that member of staff and other colleagues and to protect the company.

To people saying it's theft I don't think theft is made out at all; seems like both dishonesty and intention to permanently deprive are missing.

ABoozedMoose · 18/01/2019 08:55

I wouldn't be impressed if my colleagues started rummaging around in my drawers. And I'd be pissed off if they actually used something up - we don't have vending machines or a shop so if I had a bottle of something in my drawer and someone took it then I'd be inconvenienced and, therefore, pissed off

Fromage · 20/01/2019 07:58

@flumpybear - nope

Also, it wasn't the only Pepsi in the drawer. In the OP it refers to 'one of' therefore she wasn't leaving her colleague high and dry. So to speak.

Cornettoninja · 20/01/2019 09:00

Would Pepsi even work for low sugars now everything has sweeteners??? Maybe you were still low?

I’m another who thinks you would have tasted any alcohol so just replace and keep your opinions to yourself on this one I think.

limpbizkit · 20/01/2019 09:06

@gnothi exactly what I think. Just about to say exactly the same thing! You've hit the nail on the head well and truly!!
