Does anyone know the secret to long lasting, lovely smelling washing?

Just that really. I’ve copied everything my Mum does - particularly for bedding and it works for a bit but my bedding never keeps the lovely smell for more than a night!

Boring

Funny you mention those from Aldi.
There is a thread going at the minute which is about a certain toothpaste tasting like something else white ( and not minty ) which comes from males Grin
Someone said the Aldi washing powder smells like this stuff too so on that basis I would avoid....

It's an odd thread.

Unknown what you mean about this OP. My friends mum's house was always the same. I always wondered how they managed to keep it so fresh because my mum's was never like that, then one day my friend put on a washing for her mum and she PUT 3 liquid capsules in the machine then 2 cups of fabric softener in the drawer. Mystery solved! I use a lot of fabric softener on my jumpers to make them nice and soft but nothing else, they go in their own wash and stay smelling like that for a long time.

I wash bedding on the day I need it so it always smells fresh when it’s put on straight out of the dryer

Put the powder and the conditioner in the correct department. It actually makes a difference

BoringSoupBeforeTheTurkeyFeast · 17/01/2019 14:45

@Zoflorabore, well that’s answered that then 😬😄.

@PoutySprout @MeetOnTheledge. Thanks. I didn’t know.

Luckily white vinegar can be used for all sorts of other things, so I’ll use it for them (writes down soda crystals).

BoringSoupBeforeTheTurkeyFeast · 17/01/2019 14:46

I’m going to have to check on that toothpaste thread now....

FuckBrussel · 17/01/2019 15:26

@Soyalatteforme, do you put the essential oils in with the wash, or in the fabric conditioner dispenser tray?

Soyalatteforme · 17/01/2019 15:32

@FuckBrussel - I put the oils in the fabric conditioner tray. I use about 10 ‘shakes’.

FuckBrussel · 17/01/2019 15:43

@Soya, thankyou so much! I will try that.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 17/01/2019 16:19

@bow haha oh o see 😂 im asthmatic too but funnily enough that doesnt set that off the way things like nail varnish do! We're all different i suppose. But yes hyperbole isnt good when stating a case!

@brussels think il try the essential oils in the drawer i love them 😃!

For what you want to achieve I do think bold powder. There's two scents but I found lavender best. I don't know if they do a liquid or what it's like if so. I've not used it for ages and have just got out of drawer a pillowcase which still holds the scent but it's not over powering. You can adjust dosage. As for washing machine just do a hot wash sometimes. I do bedding and towels on 60. And keep rubber seal inside clean. Found a small sd card and a £1 in mine recently!

Ifangyow · 18/01/2019 09:09

I use washing nuts rather than detergents and softners. Much cheaper too.
It saves my washing machine becoming clogged up and smelling too. I don't think I could ever return to conventional methods now.

strawberrisc · 18/01/2019 19:46

@Zoflorabore I might just try that as a one off! Thanks!

I can’t believe so many people use and recommend unstoppables, they are really bad for the enviornment.

I would say go for comfort creations is really good for smell

Zoflorabore · 18/01/2019 20:19

That's how I started strawberri Grin

moanyhole · 18/01/2019 23:09

I put the powder directly into the drum so it bypasses the drawer and no need to keep it clean. The blue Aldi softener is lovely

EngagedAgain · 19/01/2019 10:53

Yes I put powder straight in drum. Also another reason I don't use conditioner is because of the way it yuks up the drawer. A friend got me out of that habit. I use a liquid now and they not as harsh anyway. Although I've advocated bold several times, I wouldn't use it on delicates. I only stopped using it because I got fed up with a big box taking up space, getting hard to get out and because I threw a brilliant big scoop out which don't seem to come with powder boxes now.
