How long (approx) does it take you to clean your house top to bottom?

Im just curious.

On a normal day, not a deep clean where skirting boards are done and furniture pulled out.

How long does it take you to do a tidy up of your house and how big is your home.

I have a very compact/cosy/snug 2 bedroom cottage. No dining room and only 1 bathroom. It has taken me 2 hours to run the hoover over, dust, do the dishes, clean the bathroom, mop the floors and a general tidy up of toys and various science projects out the childs room Grin

I feel I have raced through it all but it is done. All tidy and clean. To be fair. The house has very little in the way of furniture, there is a serious space issue 🤣

Probably about 3 hours, but it would take longer if there was lots of tidying to do first or if beds needed changing. My house is 4 bedrooms, biggish kitchen, 2 living rooms, 1 bathroom plus a utility with a second toilet.

maxelly · 15/01/2019 13:59

Similar to you, we also live in a snug tiny cottage and in about 2 hours (depending on exactly how messy/dirty it was to start with), at a push, I could do a reasonable clean so it looks good/smells nice although it wouldn't pass an inspection by my houseproud MIL! In that time I would:

-Load/unload dishwasher
-Put a load of washing on and peg/hang out the clean washing
-Give the kitchen and bathroom a good 'surface' clean (but not a deep clean)
-Empty bins
-Tidy and dust living room
-Sweep and mop all downstairs floors
-Hoover stairs, landing and bedrooms
-Change 2 x beds

On a really good day I might be able to fit some other jobs in like changing the guinea pig cage or wiping obvious smears off the windows or dusting the skirting boards...

No idea if this is average or not so interested to see other response!

A deep clean would take a full day.
A general clean would take couple of hours. Run hoover, dust, mop floors, clean kitchen, tidy up, clean bathrooms.
I can get it overnight guest ready in an hour if necessary.
It's acceptable now for any drop on guests.

InDubiousBattle · 15/01/2019 14:07

4/5 hours. 3 bed, 1 (massive)bathroom, kitchen, living room, playroom- all over three floors. That's to get everywhere nice and tidy and clean run a hoover around, sort any washing and change all 3 beds.

LooseSeal2 · 15/01/2019 14:09

I’ve literally never done a top to bottom clean in one go on any house I’ve lived in. Because I’m crap, messy and get distracted it would probably take me 200 hours.

When I had a cleaner in last house for 2 hours they would clean large bathroom, small toilet, kitchen, mop hall, hoover & hoover stairs. If they were to do all the other rooms in that (old large) house probably 6 hours?

However I had the same cleaner in new house for 3 hours as a one off and she only managed small bathroom, tiny toilet, en-suite, kitchen and a maybe 3 windows 🤷🏻‍♀️

Racecardriver · 15/01/2019 14:10

That has literally never happened so I don’t know.

Mymadworld · 15/01/2019 14:22

Another one who gets distracted and will find literally ANYTHING to avoid cleaning so tend to do small bits every day rather than one big hit but in total 3-3.5 hours to do a proper clean in our average size 3 bed, 2 reception, 1 bathroom + WC house. I have a cleaner once a week and she does a basic mop and hoover throughout, surface clean including quick dust of furniture and basic bathroom / Wc clean. Unless I specifically ask her she doesn't do skirting boards, ceiling dusting, wall tiles in the bathrooms etc. It's not brilliant but keeps us on top of things when we're busy working and avoids a weekend of cleaning!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/01/2019 14:23

What an odd question. What are you really saying? I'm not sure I get your point.

DragginBallsEEEE · 15/01/2019 14:40

Why is it an odd question? These types of questions are asked her all the time.

I hate cleaning so I rarely do the whole house in one go. On the rare occasion that I do when we have workmen in who are going to be all round the house it takes about 4 hours or 2 if DP is doing one floor while I do the other.

In my lovely old house...small Victorian terrace with two bedrooms...an hour and a half.

My current house takes ages...at least double that time. 3 beds, 2 baths, playroom, living room, very big kitchen diner.

I miss my old house

Simply curious how long it takes people to clean their home. No harm in that is there Smile

I have a big house (big family) and I'm disabled. Five bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, three receptions, kitchen diner and utility.

It would take me about a week.

JurassicGirl · 15/01/2019 14:53

Days!!!

In reality it took me 2 hours to clean my dd's room, bathroom & landing yesterday.

I cleaned the inside of the windows in these rooms, tidied & hoovered. I didn't change her bed but it was very untidy!!

AngelOfDeathNix · 15/01/2019 14:55

Pretty much sums it up.....

AngelOfDeathNix · 15/01/2019 14:56

Oh how annoying, the picture didn't work!

HTKS · 15/01/2019 14:57

4 hours. It’s basically what i spend Mondays doing in between nursery runs and still sometimes I don’t get it all done. It’s a massive ballache. We let our cleaner go at Christmas as I was going to have more time what with DS starting nursery and we want to save up for a big holiday.

5 bed two bathroom and downstairs loo, kitchen diner, playroom and front room. Two staircases, and lots of fiddly dust gathering woodwork!

SheWhoDaresGins2 · 15/01/2019 15:03

I am extremely envious of those who have or have had cleaners. Envy

I actually despise doing the house work but I do love it once it is all done so on my days off I try and rattle it all off blinkered to stuff I would rather be doing like eat biscuits with a cuppa watching TV. Grin

RiverTam · 15/01/2019 15:06

well, I'd have to tidy it first, and that could take quite a while.

But I suppose doing what you've done would take a couple of hours if I was focussed? (3 bed, 1 bath, 1 through lounge terrace)

really, it would take me all day.

Alanamackree · 15/01/2019 15:14

Well I’ve been living here for over a decade and I’m still trying so 10 years plus

Rebah · 15/01/2019 15:14

I do bits each day so I’m not sure how long it would take to do the whole house in one go. I suspect more than a day...

The thought of doing it in one go fills me with horror which is why I’d rather keep on top of it and do different bits each day.

(Big old 4 storey house)

Sitranced · 15/01/2019 15:16

2 up 2 down fairly smallish house. Just a bit of a tidy up, dust and run the hoover round would be about 2 hours. Full top toe skirting boards, under beds, windows cleaning would be about 6 hours.

halfwitpicker · 15/01/2019 15:17

It'd take 3 hours for a basic clean.

And that'd be doing it quick.

Celebelly · 15/01/2019 15:18

We have a four bed detached but our routine is to both do half an hour at 6 every day and that keeps it clean and tidy. With two people tackling it, it makes it much easier! Sometimes it doesn't even take half an hour.

thecatsthecats · 15/01/2019 15:20

3 bed terrace. In under 2h, the cleaner generally does:

  • bathroom - tiles, sink, loo, bath, floor
  • light dusting in lounge, sidetables etc
  • kitchen - surfaces, wipe appliances, washing up, hob, sink, fridge
  • conservatory - surfaces, table
  • vaccuuming/mopping/banister polishing/mirror wiping etc all over

A fairly comprehensive job, basically. I could do it in 2h, but probably fit in laundry in the machine also.
