Swings make me feel sick - am I just getting old?!

Over the last year or so I've noticed that going on a swing (for no more than about 5 seconds) makes me feel dizzy. It's the same with bouncy castles and can't even manage one verse of ring-a-ring o' roses!

Is this just an added joy of ageing?! I'm 38 which I didn't think was too old to manage on a swing! Or maybe something inner ear related to get checked out (obvs don't want to waste a GPs time) !

I think it may be an age thing.

I can no longer go on rollercoasters or even waltzers and I used to live them. The dizziness and sickness afterwards (and during) is unreal.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 13/01/2019 19:49

I've noticed this too, especially on roundabouts.

OvO · 13/01/2019 19:50

Same! Also 38 and it’s a fairy recent thing.

If my DH pushes me too high it totally makes me panic now. Blush

I was talking about this with a friend just the other day! We're both the same - can't even go on they swings anymore. I wonder if something happens to the balance organs in your ear as you get older?

PoptartPoptart · 13/01/2019 19:51

Definitely an age thing I think.
I used to be the biggest daredevil in my youth, upside down rollercoasters, waltzers, everything. Now I can’t even go on the teacups without feeling dizzy and extremely sick.
I did a roll poly a couple of years ago whilst messing around with DS in the front room. I honestly thought I was going to throw up.
I hate getting older, it’s no fun going to theme parks and having to be the one to hold the coats.

SittHakim · 13/01/2019 19:52

It's age. A doctor friend explained it to me once: balance depends on tiny hair cells in your inner ear. When you're young, they're really flexible: as you get older they stiffen and get less responsive - so you get dizzy and sick at things that would once have been fun.

KickingItSince1966 · 13/01/2019 19:53

Definitely an age thing. I remember being about 25 and showing my little cousin how to swing really high. Any time recently I’ve been to the park with my kids- I’m 34 now, I’ve had terrible dizziness and feeling like I’m going to puke, if I try and swing high. I think it might be vertigo?

Whatififall · 13/01/2019 19:53

Me also!

Swings, roundabouts, anything that moves really induces sickness and a headache.

I went on a 4d ride thing not long ago that had a warning about motion sickness, my friend made a joke about me not being able to go on due to my inability to do anything, I ignored her. Got off ride. Fell over. Had to go to a medic bay. Was sick. Ruined the day out.

scrivette · 13/01/2019 19:57

I do too, it's so annoying as I used to love rides and swings etc. Makes me sad that I am getting old!!

RandomMess · 13/01/2019 19:59

Even thinking about them makes me feel queasy Grin🤮🤢

I taught my DDs how to get their swings going and felt ill for hours afterwards!

wineoclockthanks · 13/01/2019 20:07

It's definitely age and since having chemo (which also damages the hair cells), I even get dizzy walking up or down lots of flights of stairs! (The sort you have to walk around)

Nnnnnineteen · 13/01/2019 20:09

Me too. Can't do rides, swings, see saw, escalator, fast lifts, uneven floors.. my vestibular sense is fucked.

RandomMess · 13/01/2019 20:13

There was also the time we were at Thorpe Park and DH drew the short straw to go on the tea cups (waltzers) with the DC, we had to go home shortly afterwards Blush

The teapot on the carousel left the DC to it and sat on a horse, can still manage them.

NannyR · 13/01/2019 20:13

Me too! I used to spend hours on them as a child, now I get really queasy after only a few seconds, same with roundabouts.

mintchick · 13/01/2019 20:18

Me too!! I used to love stuff life that. Now it's just awful awful awful 🤢🤢🤢

Peachypips · 13/01/2019 20:22

It happened to me when I had kids.

cowfacemonkey · 13/01/2019 20:28

Your senses change and deteriorate as you age including the vestibular system so all that swinging and hanging upside down we could tolerate as kids makes you feel dizzy and sick in older age!

TroysMammy · 13/01/2019 20:29

I'm fine on the swings and the zip wire in the park. A couple of years ago when I was 48, I'm nearly 51 now, my niece encouraged me to lie down on a spinny thing. When it eventually stopped I got off, wobbled and fell on my arse. I was totally disorientated. My niece was in hysterics. Despite her pleading "do it again Auntie". I refused.

RandomMess · 13/01/2019 20:38

I can still zip wire Wink

AllGoodDogs · 13/01/2019 20:39

Yes I'm the same. Tried DS's PSVR over Christmas on a driving game and had to stop almost immediately!! We're going to Florida next year and I'm shirting myself over the roller coasters! Planning on taking some sea sickness tablets and hoping for the best!

Me too - gutted as I used to love rollercoasters. Wasn’t sure if it was an age thing or something that had happened after having DS, either way going on a roundabout now is enough to make me feel very queasy.

Silversun83 · 13/01/2019 20:43

Glad it's not just me! I'm 36 (I almost put 34 Blush) and have been complaining about swings making me dizzy for the past few years..

Also DD loves holding hands and spinning around which I can put up with for about 10 seconds.. Same with her favourite game of running around the kitchen table.. what is it with toddlers and liking the sensation of getting dizzy?!

Verytired2019 · 13/01/2019 20:46

I can't even look at my daughter as I push her on the swing as watching the motion of it makes me feel sick!! Can't even do ring a roses 😖

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/01/2019 20:47

Please go and see your GP and tell them you can't swing on the swings any more GrinGrin

I'm the same btw. Also found out the hard way that I can't swing really high and then jump off.
