Fell swoop.

I wrote foul swoop. Thought no, fowls fly and swoop so it's probably that. Checked it by googling and realised that I've been saying it wrongly al these years.

It's fell swoop.

@Klobluchar I hate this too.... generally heard from car salesmen "Come down to the office and ask for myself"
It makes my teeth itch!!!

KissingInTheRain · 12/01/2019 16:22

Oops...

...it means debatable, not settled or unspoken.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 12/01/2019 16:23

It doesn't 'phase' me instead of using 'faze'. You're not a bloody angle!

I'm fed up of seeing squashed up words like aswell and alot. Oh, and the hideous 'rediculous'. Feck off!

MakeAWhish · 12/01/2019 16:26

Also, people who can't spell Avocado. You get advocado, and my personal favourite, avocardo 🤬

MakeAWhish · 12/01/2019 16:27

Always seeing 'defiantly' instead of definitely.

MakeAWhish · 12/01/2019 16:27

My other half thinks a hand me down is a handy down.

After following football for years and my team playing 'boro' a lot, only just found out Middlesbrough isn't spelt boro

RetiredNotExpired · 12/01/2019 16:28

Started to read a self-published book and got only as far as about page 5 when a character was described as having an "equine" nose.

Didn't bother reading further .... !

PuppyMonkey · 12/01/2019 16:34

It’s about time this thread had the obligatory “if you think that you’ve got another thing coming/think coming” debate. Grin

MummaMinnie · 12/01/2019 16:35

I used to think common or garden was communal garden Blush

ciderhouserules · 12/01/2019 16:37

Pacific/ specific; refuge/ refuse; mute/ moot; discrete/discreet; advice/ advise; practice/ practise; licence/ license; register office/ registry office - also loose/lose (I need to loose a couple of pounds)
Rediculous is a new one, I've noticed it a lot in the past few weeks.

I once followed a poster's thread in which she spent many a 'wrestler's night' worrying about her DH.... Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/01/2019 16:45

It's "another think coming".

And anyone who argues otherwise has another think coming.

It's the only version that makes logical sense!

OvO · 12/01/2019 16:46

If my teen says he did something "on accident" one more time there’s going to be trouble.

DadDadDad · 12/01/2019 16:46

@PuppyMonkey - you beat me to it. I too was wondering how long until "another think coming" would be brought up. Grin

BobbinThreadbare123 · 12/01/2019 16:48

Just reading a thread where people who are claiming to be teachers are replying and we've had 'greatful' and 'prevailiant'.

AveAtqueVale · 12/01/2019 17:16

Brought/ bought. Angry

Yulebealrite · 12/01/2019 17:21

And why do teenagers insist on saying 35 past eight, or whatever time it is? The first time I heard it was in a tutoring centre and it was used by one of the young workers there obviously educated and should know better . I put it down to a one off - but no, I've heard it lots since then. Angry

How about bias? As in “I like it but there again I am bias”.

PurpleWithRed · 12/01/2019 18:10

Myself and Fred instead of Fred and I
Within instead of in
obeast instead of obese

AAAAAGGGGGHHHH!

ZigZagZombie · 12/01/2019 18:14

"Que me trying to..." - wtf? WHAT? Habla usted Inglés? Confused

I proper lol'd the other week when I read "rest bite". Sadly it's not something you can freely laugh at because of course anyone using either that phrase or the correct one is having a tough time.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 12/01/2019 18:55

"I text him" used as a past tense. Argh! I also hate the words gifted used to mean given something and invite used as a verb.

BlankTimes · 12/01/2019 18:59

Missing out the words 'to be'

It needs cleaned

Noooooo, it needs TO BE cleaned or it needs cleaning.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 12/01/2019 19:07

I've said this here before I was sure for many years a long time the 70's song by The Moody Blues was Knights in White Satin Hmm

isittheholidaysyet · 12/01/2019 19:13

Click instead of clique

llangennith · 12/01/2019 19:14

Today on MN someone wrote 'rest bight' meaning 'respite'.
