Not a TAAT but inspired by one.

How far away is the nearest police station to you?

Mine is 5.1 miles away.

About 600 yards? But I don't think it's open to the public.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 10/01/2019 22:08

Just round the corner.

elQuintoConyo · 10/01/2019 22:10

1km. Always open.
2km. Also always open.
200m to the nearest hospital.

We're very lucky.

DianaBlythe · 10/01/2019 22:11

0.9 miles. I had to look it up though!

Apparently there is one nearer than the one I thought was nearest which is 1.6 miles.

Scrowy · 10/01/2019 22:11

14 miles. I'm actually surprised it's that close.

Tricorne · 10/01/2019 22:11

2.5 miles away. London suburb. There was one much nearer but they closed the front counter a while back.

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/01/2019 22:14

The new one is 1.7 miles. I have to pass the old site to get to it.

jessstan2 · 10/01/2019 22:14

I honestly don't know where my nearest police station is. There used to be one within walking distance which is now a restaurant. Also I don't know when I last saw a police man/woman out walking around here.

JustBeingJobless · 10/01/2019 22:14

About a mile in the next village, but it’s only manned part time.

Crunchymum · 10/01/2019 22:15

100m, as the crow flies.

sanityisamyth · 10/01/2019 22:16

300 m but no-one's ever in! Proper police station is in county town which is 7 miles or so.

theworldistoosmall · 10/01/2019 22:16

400 metres is the closest but never seems open.
The nearest open one is about half a mile away.
Where I live we have about 6 police stations, various transport police and a couple of police boxes all within a mile.

jessstan2 · 10/01/2019 22:16

I googled. There are three police stations between two and three miles away from my house, 8-9 minutes by car (would be quicker if they had to come out to me with a flashing light).

Poppyfr33 · 10/01/2019 22:16

All our local stations have closed, you have to phone if you need to speak with someone, if you can get through.

StarJumpsandaHalf · 10/01/2019 22:17

It's open for 15 hours a week and is something like half an hour's drive away so long as you have your own transport.

PaquitaVariation · 10/01/2019 22:17

3.5 miles

MadisonAvenue · 10/01/2019 22:20

About 2 miles away, in the town centre. The front desk is now only open weekdays 9-5.

MovingtoLondonAgain · 10/01/2019 22:21

A mile away but in the 12yrs I have lived here, I have never visited. I had to report my number plates once, I did it online - very quick.

Auntpetunia2015 · 10/01/2019 22:22

According to google 120 yards or 100 meters ..in reality it’s actually across the road facing me!

thegreylady · 10/01/2019 22:22

Not sure there was one in town but it is closed. You can get a Community Police person if you ring from a special phone, I guess it’s a modern version of a Tardis.

coppercolouredtop · 10/01/2019 22:23

The question should be is it open to the public.

Many stations are now not open to public or enquiry desks. You may live near one but it may not be open to public.

Cuts backs.

Oldraver · 10/01/2019 22:23

Less than a mile. Its shuts about 5pm and isnt open everday

3boysandabump · 10/01/2019 22:25

2.6 miles to a small one which I don't think is open all of the time.

3.3 miles to the bigger one in the city centre

Tricorne · 10/01/2019 22:27

I just checked some stats and find it hard to believe there is only one manned station in my outer London borough, which is more than 25miles square and with a population of well over over 300,000! Confused

I know there are a few 'depots' which they rush out from with the blues and twos on though so there are hopefully a handful of police officers within reach for a 999 call (if not a face to face convo which would be a luxury nowadays!).

I don't envy them their jobs to be honest - it must be pretty thankless.

megletthesecond · 10/01/2019 22:27

1 mile. Although it's a fancy investigation centre, I don't know if there is a reception and a desk that the general public can pop in to speak to someone.

The old school police station closed a few months ago. It was well situated in the middle of town.
