Picked him up from school today and he’s got a dry dark pink area under his lip that seems very sore.

Any ideas what I can try? Hope you can see on the pic.

Nipple cream! Lansinoh works wonders for chapped lips/skin. Pricey but worth it.

DangerMouse17 · 10/01/2019 17:36

Is it just chapped skin? Bit of olive oil/coconut oil or something maybe

Yes it does look sort of chapped

Looks like it's from licking his lips in the cold. Just give him a chap stick for his pocket.

binkybea · 10/01/2019 17:37

Blistex!

Keep reapplying especially before bed Wink

FortyFacedFuckers · 10/01/2019 17:38

My son gets that, it usually clears up after a day or two of Vaseline before bed and if he lets me before he goes out in the cold. I try to keep it up in the winter and it stays away.

SpringIntoSpring · 10/01/2019 17:41

Lots of children get this at this time of year. I think it's either because they suck their bottom lip, or chew their collars. Then it starts to get sore so they lick it which makes it even more sore...

Lipsyl or chapstick works well. Give him a stick and let him put it on as often as he likes because the more he uses, the better it'll heal.

I’ve just bought a Melrose Stick for this as it was recommended on a similar thread here last week.

todayiwin · 10/01/2019 17:49

This stuff works wonders

I bet he licks it. I used to have this as a child under my bottom lip and would get really sore/red. I looked a right mess!!

LL83 · 10/01/2019 17:57

I second lansinoh cracked nipple cream. I have used it on DD and see an amazing improvement after 1 application even when very cracked. I am encouraging her to use it most evenings in winter.

It looks like he has picked some dry skin off to me.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 10/01/2019 17:58

Tell him to stop licking it!

Bringbackthestripes · 10/01/2019 18:05

I agree Lansinoh But if you don’t have any then bepanthen is also good or even Vaseline or any lip balm.

Vaseline

letsdolunch321 · 10/01/2019 18:35

Sudocream worked when my son had it

EduCated · 10/01/2019 18:37

A weekend of intensive lip balming (the blistex cream style ones are good) and whatever bribery it takes to get him to not lick.

Mine were worse as a child and it’s a viscious cycle, licking gives temporary relief but makes it worse.

Drogosnextwife · 10/01/2019 18:37

Vaseline, I've been carrying small tube everywhere with me for 15 years, can't do without it! Soon as my ds's gets slightly dry lips it gets whacked on. Clears up within a day or 2.

AnnieOH1 · 10/01/2019 18:39

Totally absolutely recommend the O'Keefes lip repair, combined possibly with some hydrocolloid patches if it starts bleeding.

Woohoo1 · 10/01/2019 18:39

8 hour cream! My ds gets this I wait til he’s fast asleep and cover his lips in the 8 hour cream! Totally better in the morning

Bluestitch · 10/01/2019 18:41

I've just been to the pharmacy for my DD for the same reason. They recommended Blistex and then smothering with Vaseline at night.

gobbin · 10/01/2019 18:55

Sudocrem heals things quickly.

Pinkkahori · 10/01/2019 19:00

Bioderma have a very good cream. It's is their baby range and it's designed for dribble rash. Safe to use around the mouth and works wonders on dd's chapped mouth.

Redtartanshoes · 10/01/2019 19:01

Vaseline
