Someone has chucked an eight inch knife over my garden wall

My three year old daughter and her friend were out there playing and I've only just found it now I've gone out to tidy up. It was double wrapped in plastic bags and I thought it was just rubbish. I feel terrible at the thought they could have got it ☹️

Also, a Victorinox knife is not a cooking knife, it's a camping/hunting brand. So very suspicious.

GobblersKnob · 09/01/2019 16:36

Hand it in in Shock

Hoppinggreen · 09/01/2019 16:36

Recycling centre?
That’s crazy, can you take it to a Police Station?

BunloafAndCrumpets · 09/01/2019 16:37

Oh heck gobblers 😫

Sounds like rather a good knife OP. For vegetables rather than anything more sinister.

I suppose the thought of it potentially having been a murder weapon would be a bit offputting though. Shame. Odd way to dispose of one of those though.

Bunnybigears · 09/01/2019 16:39

I've had a knofe thrown into my back yard before from the dodgy alleyway behind. The police couldnt have cared less when I called 101 so Im not suprised.

LimpidPools · 09/01/2019 16:39

Crap. Did not mean to cross post with Gobblers then.

NorthEndGal · 09/01/2019 16:40

We have Victoriaknox cooking knives, so I know they do make them

BunloafAndCrumpets · 09/01/2019 16:40

Limpid it's not a veg knife.. will take pic. Is still in the garden, didn't want to touch it pre calling 101 but will bring it in now as don't want to equip potential house burglars!

I’m shocked they would say to recycle it. No way would a responsible police officer say that! Try to handle the bag as little as possible and ring them again and double check.

Could you put trellis on top of your wall to stop things being thrown over?

SaturdayNext · 09/01/2019 16:41

Goodness. I was just watching the first episode of "Manhunt" last night where they lost a promising lead because some idiot cleared out the evidence store and threw away a drinks carton that probably had the killer's DNA on it. It sounds like the person who did that has moved to answering 101 phone calls.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 09/01/2019 16:43

No one chucks good quality cooking knives over a fence for a non suspicious reason,

DeRigueurMortis · 09/01/2019 16:44

Personally I'll keep it wrapped up and put it somewhere secure.

BunloafAndCrumpets · 09/01/2019 16:45

Bakewells for scale

101 aren't police officers, it's a call centre though obviously staff are trained. I would prob ring again and speak to someone different, or ask to be put through to your local neighbourhood team?

cjt110 · 09/01/2019 16:46

I wanted to get rid of some cooking knives that were no use and I called 101 to ask of a safe way to discard them... it seemed wrong to just put them in the bin. I was advised to wrap them in a carrier bag, with tape around then discard. This is apparently so that the waste sorters do not cut themselves but they can be discarded of.

BunloafAndCrumpets · 09/01/2019 16:47

Curbside that's a great idea thanks. We do actually have a community officer. I'd forgotten. Will try and contact him. I didn't realise 101 weren't police

Recycling centre??

We had similar, kids came in saying they’d found a large knife in some bushes on the grassy area of our cul-de-sac.
My husband went out to bring it inside and brought back a machete! The police came to collect it.

BrendasUmbrella · 09/01/2019 16:47

Try calling 101 again, maybe you'll get someone with more common sense 2nd time..

Valkyries · 09/01/2019 16:49

I just looked them up - those knives cost a fortune!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/01/2019 16:49

I sssume by ‘recycling’ they mean the boxes outside some police stations for dropping off knives.
