Fancy weekend break in the north?

MoonieMoon · 07/01/2019 22:23

My DP and I are getting married at the end of September, but due to various commitments we probably won't be able to have a proper honeymoon until at least next year, or maybe later.

We are looking for somewhere to go for a night or two the weekend after the wedding. We are based in Leeds but will have to drop our dd off to stay with in laws in Durham, so we are happy to travel as far north as Edinburgh (so anywhere in between) or we love the Lake District so this could be an option too.

Looking for somewhere really special to stay, but I'm struggling to find anything as I'm not sure exactly what to search for.

Would love some recommendations!

The Witchery in Edinburgh is very popular and very nice

HappyGirl86 · 07/01/2019 22:29

Linthwaite house in the lakes is lovely and it's been renovated last year.

PeridotCricket · 07/01/2019 22:30

Samlings, I’ve never stayed ther3 but supposed to be lovely www.thesamlinghotel.co.uk/

I have stayed at the drunken duck which was fab,

hilbil21 · 07/01/2019 22:31

What about Gilpin hotel and lake house. It's lake Windermere

keeponrunning85 · 07/01/2019 22:33

Feversham arms in Helmsley in N Yorkshire is lovely.

Tony2 · 07/01/2019 22:33

Whitby maybe? Northumberland, Alnwick, Lindisfarne, get romantically stuck on the causeway, walk on deserted beautiful sandy but bloody freezing beaches? I love it there.

loobylou10 · 07/01/2019 22:34

Brimstone hotel in langdale.

RogerThat99 · 07/01/2019 22:36

Second the Brimstone, it's utter luxury!

Doidontimmm · 07/01/2019 22:37

What do you like? City, Spa, Beach, Countryside?

EnidButton · 07/01/2019 22:37

The Swan hotel at Newby Bridge? Pool, spa treatments and really nice food. It's near Lake Windermere.

The Samling is gorgeous.

Or have you considered renting a cottage for a few days. We love doing that as it's more private and romantic. Character Cottages might have somewhere.

MoonieMoon · 07/01/2019 22:39

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Lots to look at!

I also like the idea of a lodge with a hot tub but not sure where to look for a good one.

Rockliffe Hall in Hurworth near Darlington.
5 star hotel. The spa is world class. Beautiful golf course.
The fine dining restaurant is fabulous, they do the best afternoon tea ever.
The bay horse in Hurworth village (where Rockliffe is) is a wonderful restaurant also.
Raby hunt is a Michelin restaurant and also not far from Rockliffe. Foodie Heaven!

EnidButton · 07/01/2019 22:41

Had a quick look and The Brimstone does look gorgeous! Nice suites. Not keen on Ambleside itself but you can drive to other places for days out and there are some nice places to eat in Ambleside.

BubonicWoman · 07/01/2019 22:42

Devonshire arms at Bolton Abbey

FlyingMonkeys · 07/01/2019 22:42

Hotel Indigo if you fancy staying in Durham.

laura2107 · 07/01/2019 22:43

I live in Edinburgh which is an amazing city to visit. There is also a place called erigmore which me and my partner have been to and they have lovely wee lodges with hot tubs and the local village is just beautiful it's called birnam which is about an hours drive outside Edinburgh. The walks and scenery around the place is breathtaking xx

laura2107 · 07/01/2019 22:44

Or another couple of options up this way would be Dalhousie castle to stay or if you want a spa break the stobo castle xx

hilbil21 · 07/01/2019 22:44

I've looked at this a couple of times but it's not had availability when we need. It's made for couples, got a hot tub, your own bar, disco and karaoke. But also romantic. I think it sounds fab

lastqueenofscotland · 07/01/2019 22:56

I think it’s king street townhouse in Manchester that has an infinity pool on the top floor.

SteveMcqueensJeans · 07/01/2019 23:12

Seaham Hall if the budget runs to it - amazing place!
