Me & dh are going to Prague for 3 nights mid Feb. It's our first time so would really love to hear tips, restaurant recommendations and best things to do whilst we are there. It's a big birthday for dh so I'm planning on a fancy meal at least one of the nights, also would like to see some live music if possible. Can anyone help?

If you can get tickets, go to the opera, it's inexpensive and in a beautiful building

There’s a brilliant little underground jazz bar in Mala Strana called U Malehu Glena - we spent a couple of evenings there and loved it.
Petrin Hill is great for getting away from the crowds and you get a view over the whole city from there too.
If you’re a Beatles fan the John Lennon wall is worth a visit - take Sharpies to add your own contribution!

I went to The nuclear bunker which was fun and a bit different. Not cheap but a couple of really good rooftop bars in the centre.

Thank you for the tips everyone! I love jazz so that sounds perfect. And lastqueen is that a restaurant? Also is everything walking distance generally? We are staying fairly central so hoping to walk to most attractions..

Cafe Imperial - the best hot chocolate I have ever had. Wonderful art noveau tiles and designs and in the middle of some beautiful old architecture. Lovely old building:

Me and DH went for our wedding anniversary a couple of years ago.

Thoroughly recommend the Jazz boat for an evening meal, music and a boat ride down the river.

David Cerny sculpture trail is good for an afternoon and to explore a bit.

Also a walk up petrin hill.

Loads of beer museums with free beers as part of the entry! We also went to the torture museum which was.....interesting 🤣 the museum of communism is worth a visit too

DrCoconut · 07/01/2019 18:09

St Nicholas cathedral. The inside is just wow. Whatever your religious beliefs it's worth seeing.

MadisonAvenue · 07/01/2019 18:10

I'm reading with interest as we're going in March for the first time.

Cismyfatarse1 · 07/01/2019 18:10

Hemingway's. Brilliant quirky cocktail bar. You might need to book.

hellswelshy · 07/01/2019 18:16

Wow these sound great! Keep them coming! Any art museums in particular worth visiting? I may only get away with one as dh not a huge art fan..

We walked pretty much everywhere, just used the tram the first day to find our way around and then to get back to the station for the airport.
Everything is easy to get too... food wise everything is quite similar to be honest... we went for a traditional night, (pork knee) and traditional soups, then the next night an Italian.

Food is very expensive close to the square same with alcohol. Go a few streets out and the price is pretty much half! That being said it’s still cheap, we went in March 2018 a pint was around £1 so cheap as chips!

We stayed further out in Andel but found it very easy to walk into the centre.

Everything is very pretty so worth a tram ride at night... but it’s easy to walk as well once you get your bearings.

One thing to remember as with many European countries medicine etc is only available in pharmacies... I had a banging head when we arrived on a Sunday and everywhere was shut, totally forgot to bring any!

Municipal House! It's a wonderful place with concerts and full of classic art nouveau / baroque design. Sounds a bit 'high brow ' but it's really not. Stunningly beautiful. There's a guided tour (not that long) and a bar / restaurant there.
I reckon it was our favourite place to visit.

You really can't go wrong in Prague, so many interesting and beautiful things to see.
We did a free walking tour so we could see all of the main attractions.
St Nicolas cathedral is awesome. So beautiful inside I've never seen anything like it and I've been to a few cathedrals.
I would have liked more time to spend in the Jewish Quarter and maybe a boat ride.
Cubist museum looks interesting too.
All the food we had was great and quite cheap, wine is also delicious.
We tried traditional food which is easy to find and all looks quite similar.
We also had a Vietnamese meal which was excellent.

PavlovianLunge · 07/01/2019 20:55

Prague is very much a walking city, though teams are plentiful and cheap, as I recall. Weather will probably be very changeable, take layers.

Charles Bridge gets rammed; go early or late in the day of you can.

It’s a lovely city, you’ll have a grand time.

ratherbeshowjumping · 07/01/2019 20:58

Recommend Charles Bridge.

Also stumbled upon the most fantastic Thai restaurant named Zebra in the Old Town. DH & I are huge fans of Thai & it's arguably one of the nicest meals we've had, anywhere.

Staupromen is really drinkable (& I don't even like beer).

The anatomical clock is a must see!

HeyMicky · 07/01/2019 21:02

Walking tour of the Jewish quarter. Fascinating

And the tasting menu and wine flights at Bellevue by the Charles Bridge

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 07/01/2019 21:02

I second Cafe Imperial - meals are excellent, not the cheapest but cheaper than an Italian we went to one night, in a fantastic building.

Pop into the nearby K+K Hotel Central (you could have a cocktail there. it was built as a hotel with a theatre inside. There's an interesting couple of panels on the first floor giving its history. It's a beautiful art deco building inside. (street is Hybernska).

Opposite is a restaurant called Hybernia (I think ...) which served good portions.

The museum of cubism looked interesting.

Go inside the station (Hlavni Nadrazi) and look up at the lovely ceiling in the main foyer. There's a cubist kiosk outside - and a cubist lamp-post to find! The David Czerny trail is good.

Find the 'Dancing House' on the river bank. It looks good at night.

If you have a day, go to the castle and St Vitus' cathedral.

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 07/01/2019 21:03

Oh and wear trainers or other comfortable walking shoes - there's acres of cobbles everywhere!

Bluebellsarebells · 07/01/2019 21:40

The astronomical clock was covered over for renovation when I was there in April, not sure when the work will be finished, there was just a projection of it.
That whole square is just amazingly beautiful, the Easter markets were open and I said to my bf I felt like I'd walked into a postcard.
You'll have a fantastic time. Try the rum.

klh99 · 07/01/2019 22:16

I'm going in April so enjoying all the suggestions
