Tidying up with Marie Kondo

For anyone who wants to learn the kondo method, there is a new series on Netflix! I've read some but not all of the book. Really enjoying the series so far 😂

Yes! I binge-watched the whole thing last week and enjoyed it.

My only sadness was that she didn't show anyone how to fold/tidy/wrestle Brobdingnagian bras: they defy tidy stowing in drawers.

hmmwhatatodo · 07/01/2019 16:12

Ive only watched a couple of episodes but so far ive found it pretty boring and uninspiring to be honest and at times quite annoying.

ChristmasRaven · 07/01/2019 17:27

I've only watched one so far. I think I will use some of her tips, folding and organisation, but I do like my stuff! It all "sparks joy" in me so I won't be going minimalist any time soon. I think with any of these people it's best to just take elements of what they do rather than following it like a religion!

I loved her books but haven't enjoyed the TV show half as much. It feel oddly disjointed to me, probably the US editing, but it didn't seem to flow well.

EssentialHummus · 07/01/2019 17:29

I found it all too American but I folded my towels in thirds today, so something clearly sunk in!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 07/01/2019 17:30

I read the book about two years ago and have watched four episodes. It’s a massive motivator to me although I dislike some parts of the show.

hmmwhatatodo · 07/01/2019 18:15

Yes definitely far too American for me too. A lot of it seemed quite fake and over the top. Id be much more interested in a UK version.

Topsy44 · 07/01/2019 18:17

I like the folding part but the rest of it I didn't find motivating. I think some of the houses weren't messy enough really - I couldn't actually see much of a difference in some of them apart from the folding!

I found Consumed much more inspiring.

springchicken123 · 07/01/2019 21:25

Ooo I'll check out consumed thanks!

@PinkysEars Brobdingnagian bras Grin

BigStripeyBastard · 07/01/2019 21:27

I've watched 3 episodes.
Not enough conflict, falling out and crying for me.... I like to see people suffer for their hoarding sins, god damn it!! 😂😂

PoohBearsHole · 07/01/2019 21:28

I’ve kondo’d a drawer and all the towels.

Felt rather good!

fluffy71 · 07/01/2019 21:30

Have watched one with the young couple with a 2 and 4 year old. It did inspire me to tidy my drawers and have a major clear out and found my self doing "the fold" too. Its actually made me vow this year not to buy so much tat (like supermarket p.j's) and be a bit more discerning on what I buy).

cowfacemonkey · 07/01/2019 21:30

Have stopped watching too dull and people still have too much shit cluttering up their house it’s just a bit more tidy than before. I prefer consumed which made families just get rid of crap and question why they had so much of it in the first place.

Stevienickssleeves · 07/01/2019 21:30

I loved the kondo book for the decluttering but roll my eyes at the folding knickers. Is this series all about folding towels or does she do some chucking out as well?

BigStripeyBastard · 07/01/2019 21:34

Stevie she does very little. She turns up, tells them what to do and buggers off for ten days at a time, leaving them to do it. Kim and Aggy she really aint 😂😂

thetwinkletoescollective · 07/01/2019 21:38

Its inspired me to buy and read her book this weekend. I actually think I love her. I love how happy she is when she folds something or when she gives a demonstration.

My husband and I started this weekend. We 'spark joyed' all the children's clothes. They are going to do their toys this week. And we are getting babysitters in to do our clothes on Saturday. This is serious.

We have then put different dates in our diary up till May to follow her order of clothes - books - paper - Bathroom - Kitchen - Shed.

Its been a brilliant joint project and when I came home from work today my husband was 'spark joying' his van. I 'spark-joyed' my desk at work.

We can't get enough of it!!!

WhoWants2Know · 07/01/2019 21:42

I enjoyed Consumed, although it was clearly a painful process for some of the people. It really did make me aware of the effects that a cluttered environment has on me.

But I'm not sure about the "sparking joy" that is part of the Marie Kondo method.

There are things that I need in order to live and function that certainly don't spark joy in my life. Stuff like work clothes and school uniforms, laundry baskets, cleaning appliances...

It makes me feel like Father Jack when Mrs Doyle asks what he would say to a nice cup of tea. "Feck off cup!"

Fairylightfurore · 07/01/2019 21:45

I agree, not as good as consumed but still some useful tips. One of the families on this looked like they should have been on consumed though the amount of stuff they had.

butterfly56 · 07/01/2019 21:51

I condo's my bedroom this weekend...very peaceful process Smile....
then binge watched Consumed today...Wow that was an eye opener especially the woman with all the flipping Tupperware!! Confused

butterfly56 · 07/01/2019 21:52

**Kondo'd flipping autocorrect!!

WhoWants2Know · 08/01/2019 15:24

OMG, yes! And she didn't even get rid of the Tupperware, just stashed it around someone else's house!

Riddo · 08/01/2019 15:29

I've binged watched Consumed and the Marie Kondo programme.

I'm gradually decluttering which I'm really enjoying. So far I've Kondoed my socks and pants and half of the kitchen cupboards. There's a long way to go!

Littlelambpeep · 08/01/2019 15:29

I liked the programme but skipped parts I found boring. Everyone could do with a good declutter sometimes- maybe not this method to the letter.

OverwateredCheeseplant · 08/01/2019 15:47

The couple in the first episode of Kondo got on my nerves. Well, the woman specifically. ‘Baaaaabe’.
