Apologies if this thread has been done before but I am interested in how it will affect individuals and families specifically or not.

OP posts:

I dont see how we can possibly know as we don't know if Mays deal is going through or a no deal.

If its May's deal then, at best, I expect my share investment Inc pension to fall and income to stagnate. It is business related si could be terrible but also reliant on a uk holiday industry, so may be saved by that (or not).

Personally my decisions on holidays will be delayed or altered because i cant be bothered with worry or hassle. So we will probably book late or perhaps try canada or any other place on our bucket list.

In the case of no deal, who knows. I might even have trouble getting to work as my trip involves a road a mile away from a ferry port.

Yadda · 06/01/2019 22:13

The issue with the British border in Ireland is my primary concern. Cannot understand how the referendum campaign brushed over this issue. Angry

themoomoo · 06/01/2019 22:19

I don't think it will personally affect me at all

why100000 · 06/01/2019 22:22

Like everyone else - the cost of living will go up so I will be poorer.

My father lives in Italy so it remains to be seen how he will be affected - he is worried.

why100000 · 06/01/2019 22:23

(I can’t really afford to be poorer).

Namedrama · 06/01/2019 22:25

A relative is in a care home that is already feeling the effects and can’t find staff to care for the residents so the biggest impact is that we may have to take on more of a caring role.

I employ au pairs from Europe. There are very few looking for work here now. No sign of visa restrictions being lifted for au pairs from outside the eu to fill the gap.

I am public sector. I expect another pay freeze very soon. DH is financial sector and his employer is relocating its HQ to an EU country. His job is safe but he will work abroad more as he will need to frequently visit the HQ so we will see less of him.

Mrskeats · 06/01/2019 22:26

The moomoo you serious?

Moussemoose · 06/01/2019 22:30

Not as much as other people. I will be effected by the general economic downturn.

themoomoo · 07/01/2019 07:32

mrskeats yes I am . Why wouldn't I be?

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 07/01/2019 09:49

Brexit won't affect me very much, but it's going to kill two people I care for, both of them injecting diabetics. At that point, I shall lose a lot of my friends and family, because I shall be calling them out in public.

Calvinsmam · 07/01/2019 09:53

but it's going to kill two people I care for, both of them injecting diabetics

Now I’m a staunch remainer but I don’t think this is a given at all.
I’m sorry that you are worried.

BadlyAgedMemes · 07/01/2019 09:53

Well I'll need to get the Settled Status for one thing, and really hope it'll be as simple a process as they tell us it will.

Somewhat worried about DH's job (multinational company who has been a bit vague about their post-Brexit plans).

Other than that, nothing to do but carry on and wait and see.

Believability · 07/01/2019 09:59

I don’t think it will have much impact on us to be honest. I am following it all but haven’t given it much thought on a personal level. The only concern I had was on a medicine level but listening to the radio today it sounds like that is being addressed as a priority and in a sensible way

DippyAvocado · 07/01/2019 10:00

Cost of living increases worry me, especially food.

Also, I am a teacher. Education budgets are already cut to the bone and I'm facing redundancy from my job. If the economy worsens, there is a reduction in tax revenue and Foreign Investment and the government's debt payment rises if Sterling falls yet further - all these things leave less money for public spending on things like education.

ChocolateCard · 07/01/2019 10:44

Brexit won't affect me very much, but it's going to kill two people I care for, both of them injecting diabetics. At that point, I shall lose a lot of my friends and family, because I shall be calling them out in public.*

This is some sort of satirical comment, I assume?

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 07/01/2019 10:53

No, it isn't. I don't trust the government to maintain the medical supply chain, and I have, as I said, two people I love who inject insulin. I also have a lot of people in my circle who believe a lot of Leave bollocks, who persistently repost EDL/BF/Hatie Cockpins lies, and who have their heads in the sand about a no-deal Brexit. Up to now, we've agreed to disagree. That's not going to be possible if the wheels come off.

whiteroseredrose · 07/01/2019 11:08

Worried about DH's job as he earns 4 x what I do (strangely he isn't worried). And if house prices crash we can't even sell up and survive on the proceeds for a while.

KennDodd · 07/01/2019 11:16

My job is under threat, redundancies will be made by my firm because of Brexit, don't know yet if I'll survive the cut yet.

Mrskeats · 08/01/2019 19:08

Everyone will be affected moomoo
Food and petrol prices will rise.
Foreign travel more expensive
NHS already having problems supplying drugs that people need.
Staff shortages in lots of industries
Job losses
To name a few. No one in this country will be unaffected. That sort of view is why we are in this mess. Confused

squishee · 08/01/2019 21:21

Is TM going to risk her own life then? I've read that she's an injecting diabetic...

ChocolateCard · 09/01/2019 10:43

Not just risk, squishee.

According to Disgrace, it WILL ABSOLUTELY kill her and other injecting diabetics.

Grin
Mrskeats · 09/01/2019 11:03

I am glad you find people’s legitimate worries amusing chocolate

themoomoo · 09/01/2019 11:43

NHS already having problems supplying drugs that people need
Really. would you like to give examples of shortages happening now as a result of the brexit process?

Mrskeats · 09/01/2019 11:55

Ok I’m being careful not to out myself but my husband works in a medical area.
A tiny fraction of insulin is produced in the uk and the vast majority is imported. Supplies are disrupted in some areas as pharmacies are worried and are stockpiling leaving others with little or no supply.
We have no idea how supplies will be affected in the case of no deal- huge queues at ports for one thing and then who knows about import tariffs?
I know of 2 injecting diabetics who have had difficulty accessing their meds.
My h deals directly with some of the biggest drug companies such as Sanofi and they are very worried.
