My baby is 8 months old and I find myself staring at him, thinking 'I GREW that!' I made those tiny fingers and tiny toenails. My human body actually produced another human. It's just amazing when you sit at think about it.

And what's really blown my mind is thinking that I was born with all my eggs, all ready and waiting to go - it's like I carried DS around with me my whole life until one day that particular egg desended and it met that 1 particular sperm which made DS. If it had been any of the other eggs, I could have a completely different baby!

Women's bodies are amazing.

Please share your own equally pointless but also mind bending ponderings.

Toot...there are prop houses you can visit, tv and film use them all the time ( not my area of expertise unfortunately)...they are a treasure trove and the people who run them are so knowledgeable. If you need a washing powder packet from 1953 they can generally source one for you.

If I could have anything in the world it would be free reign to take all the stuff I fancied home to furnish my house....Egyptian sarcophagus (fake of course), narnia style wardrobe, old chrsitmas decorations, Art Deco treasures...they are all there! Understandably everything is carefully logged in and out!

TootTootPeanutbutter · 09/01/2019 15:18

I didn't know that you could visit them! Thank you. I'm definitely going to try to do that. I'd love to work in one but like you I'd have a hard time resisting taking everything home.

Vulgarlady · 09/01/2019 16:13

Toot, actually you can’t visit them unless you have a bonafide reason to..sorry for misleading you! I was lucky to go a couple of times.

TootTootPeanutbutter · 09/01/2019 16:29

I do have a friend who is a soap actor... And a relative who is a producer... Do those count as legitimate?

It's probably a good thing though. I'm not a kleptomaniac at all but considering all those lovely things I'd be green with envy for weeks.

Vulgarlady · 09/01/2019 19:17

Toot - ha ha try to blag your way in and wear a big overcoat 😂

Florries · 09/01/2019 21:37

Oh good luck Toot! I think I've seen the candidates on The Apprentice use the prop shops.

Another ponder.. a show like Jeremy Kyle is on everyday, has about 3 stories every day and a good handful of guests. It's been running for years. If they're not using actors, where are they finding all these people!? Surely there's not enough people on the UK to keep it going?

I'm very tempted by the big coat idea or I might go with being utterly shameless and asking producer relative if it'd be at all possible to visit the BBC props dept/team when I next see him.

Vulgarlady · 10/01/2019 12:02

You may be lucky, I’m sure your relative would know who to ask. Please come back and tell us all about it - -and show us all the stuff you managed to get out- -

Strikethru fail

Photographs. It still amazes me how a camera/phone can capture that image or even video it.

Also phones. How a persons voice can travel even to the other side of the world. Mind boggling.

boringlyboring · 10/01/2019 12:25

Bit of a weird one but how did the first person to have an STD get it? I suppose it must have just been a ‘D’ at that stage. But if it just developed somehow, then how come STDs are only caught from others now? It must be possible for them to materialise in our bodies without contact, like they did for the first person.

I don’t even have one, it’s just something I wonder from time to timeConfused

I also find nature amazing and mind boggling in general. I saw a programme a while ago about how a bat sleeps in the flower of a particular plant, and that plant gets its nutrients from the bat’s secretions (a very loose explanation!) How does the bat know to sleep there? How did the plant develop an appetite for the bat’s poo?

In computing, everything is converted to many millions of 0's and 1's before a computer can do anything with it. It's fascinating that in the massive evolution of computing, this principle has not changed at all.

blueshoes · 10/01/2019 14:18

wanderings that is fascinating. It blows my mind how many 1s and 0s needed to execute complex code like, I dunno, CGI.

DadDadDad · 10/01/2019 16:02

blueshoes - we can get a sense of the answer to your question.

Web search says a streamed video is about 1GB to 3GB per hour depending on quality. 1GB = 1gigabyte = 1billion bytes = 8 billion bits (ie a sequence of 8 billion 1s and 0s), so that's at least 2 million bits every second, and more like 6 million every second if you are watching in HD.

Daddaddad wowsers!
