Anyone else watching this tonight? (NC due to an outing comment I made recently). Saw it when it first came out and as a SP some of it hit home. As a statement of how it is to be without resources it is bang on. Be interested in what MN thinks.

I’ve not but I really want to. What channel is it on?

BishopBrennansArse · 05/01/2019 21:36

BBC 2 in 10 minutes

Flossmequick · 05/01/2019 21:37

It is very very good. Very real & terribly sad.

ScarletPower · 05/01/2019 21:38

Yes (if I can stay awake). I was given free preview screening tickets for this but got my days mixed up and missed it, and then I saw it got great reviews so was kicking myself (but not enough to go pay to see it LOL)

BluePepper · 05/01/2019 21:39

Thank you, I’ll watch it.

Missyagravation · 05/01/2019 21:40

I didn't like it, expected to. Though it was a bit clunky (disclaimer, watched it quite awhile ago). Also what are the odds of some middle aged bloke latching on to a vulnerable young woman for altruistic reasons Hmm

Quickerthanavicar · 05/01/2019 21:41

The helpers in the food bank are real volunteers and not actors.

AdoraBell · 05/01/2019 21:41

Too tired to watch, also feeling quite depressed so cannot cope it right now. I wonder if it will be on iPlayer? I’ll check tomorrow.

Hen2018 · 05/01/2019 22:10

As a lone parent and carer of a disabled child, with a few £ to last me til Thursday, it’s just too close to home. I’ve heard it’s excellent, though.

Giggage · 05/01/2019 23:20

It's accurate, very close to home and shows nicely the mess that is the DWP

Frenchmom · 05/01/2019 23:22

Just finished watching it. Tears rolling down my face. I am also very angry.

creamcheeseandlox · 05/01/2019 23:27

Fabulous film. Seen it before. So heartbreaking. Fcuk the Tories.

MissMarks · 05/01/2019 23:28

Brilliant and heart breaking and speaking professional experience, totally spot on.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 05/01/2019 23:29

I watched this film a few years ago and it really struck a chord. I’m from a deprived area and have been lucky to have not suffered deprivation but those around me have and I thought the film was a very good representation of how life is for a large percentage of the population. I wept watching the film because so many people are suffering, good people, hard working people who have put food on the table for their families all their lives and have paid into the tax system. It’s a bloody disgrace the way the Government can turn their backs on them.

And things will get worse with the introduction of universal credit, the inequality in this Country makes me sick!

ssd · 05/01/2019 23:30

this should be shown at the tory party conference

and to everyone who voted tory

keepyk · 05/01/2019 23:31

Desperately sad.

Other than donating to the food bank- which I do, what else can we do help them?

Bejazzled · 05/01/2019 23:33

I thought it was very one sided.

PositivelyPERF · 05/01/2019 23:35

It was very realistic. I cried my eyes out when the mum started eating out of the time at the food bank. Brought back memories of hard times.

SwedishEdith · 05/01/2019 23:36

this should be shown at the tory party conference

James Cleverly is already sneering about it.

Dowser · 05/01/2019 23:36

These are my people.
This is what it’s like up here.
Good people ground down.
I know people just like Daniel Blake...as sick as him, same age as him, no computer skills...food salt of the earth people
The stress and the worry of not getting through the ESA reassessment..simply heartbreaking..

HowlsMovingBungalow · 05/01/2019 23:37

I did.

Was in the benefit system 2012 - 2015 after leaving an abusive ex husband. I. Daniel Blake is very, very true to real life. It wasn't shocking to watch, it made me fucking angry that this system is STILL killing people and at the very least, 'treating' humans like a fucking conveyor belt of scum.

It has to stop.It really has to stop.

princessTiasmum · 05/01/2019 23:39

I didnt realise it was on tonight so only saw it from halfway through
My son is in this exact situation and its heartbreaking, Sad
Ths Government dont give a damn , i will watch it fully on I Player tomorrow, tears rolling down my cheeks at the end tonight

AnotherEmma · 05/01/2019 23:40

I watched it (not tonight, when it first came out) and found it frustrating tbh. I work for Citizens Advice and just spent the whole film wishing he had gone to Citizens Advice! We do a lot to help people in situations like theirs.

It was a good film for raising awareness but it wasn't a great film in its own right and I think they missed a trick as they could and should have included some signposting at the end (to Citizens advice and other organisations).

Ultimately it's a political film though, focused on making everything look as bad and hopeless as possible, and not about problem-solving.

DippyAvocado · 05/01/2019 23:43

Sad indictment of our society. Must be bloody awful to work for the DWP in this area too, unless you are a particularly callous person.
