Time to take down the Christmas decorations :-/

I am sat here in full procrastination mode. I love it when the house is in full festive flow but alas the time has come to put them in the attic for another year!

Anyone else facing the dreaded 'empty house' feeling?

Ah, I thought they were supposed to come down by the 12th Night.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/01/2019 14:18

Never put any up I'm afraid! So no taking down to be done.

Karmagoat · 03/01/2019 14:21

We took ours down on new years eve and had a good deep clean. Does make me feel a bit sad when it's over for another year though.

Took ours down this morning. Now DH has got to get everything back into the loft and I've got to hoover!

BadlyAgedMemes · 03/01/2019 14:24

I've just taken them down. The "tree spot" looks all bare and empty now. I'm trying to think of something to plonk there to fill the spot. Meh.

SimplyPut · 03/01/2019 14:26

@BadlyAgedMemes I remove a stand lamp and replace it with a tree every December so looks less bare.

Normally do it on the 6th but I’m 41 weeks pregnant and booked in for an induction on the 7th if this baby doesn’t come before then so I’m doing it today to keep myself occupied Grin

BlackBeltInPresentWrapping · 03/01/2019 14:30

Ours stay up until 6th Jan or 2nd Feb. We usually leave some fairy lights up about the place until at least Spring to make things look a bit more cheery during the darker months.

I was just thinking I should get a lamp there, as it's the lights I miss more than the rest of the tree. Hmm...

SimplyPut · 03/01/2019 16:36

Well they are all gone bar a few fairy lights in the kitchen and some festive floral arrangements that still have life in them. DH and I just spent 2hrs snuggled on the sofa watching Netflix and now we are taking the DC's out for dinner.

Far nicer day than I imagined!

All been boxed up and put away in the under eaves storage - and really impressed how well the tree box fitted in. Lounge now looks big and bare - but we’ve only been here since the beginning of November so still getting used to the house and it seemed so cosy with the tree up in the corner of the lounge.

MammonRouge · 03/01/2019 20:18

Mine are coming down on the Epiphany.

EdithWeston · 03/01/2019 20:19

We'll be taking ours down on 6th, as traditional.

I've never understood why people want to cut Yulestide short (unless deconflicting with a birthday).

goldengummybear · 03/01/2019 20:21

Mine came down today as it's bin day tomorrow and I want the Xmas tree taken away.

AppleBlossomArseCheeks · 03/01/2019 20:25

It's so empty and bare now, kinda wish I'd waited until the 6th

FiveNightsAtMummys · 03/01/2019 20:28

I was one of the people who put my tree up early November. I don't want to take it down..maybe I'm clinging on to Christmas. Taking mine down on 6th this year as I hope it brings me good luck.

Candymay · 03/01/2019 20:30

I’m dreading taking them down. It’s the work - and I feel unable to do it- plus the end of the joyful time.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/01/2019 20:31

I usually take down the tree after Epiphany because that is when the trees are collected for recycling. But this year I only have three decorated vases of twigs, so they and the window decorations (no lights) will stay up until Lichtmess (candlemass?).

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 03/01/2019 20:34

Ours came down today, I'm missing the fairy lights in the fireplace.

recently · 03/01/2019 20:35

Epiphany is a big deal here with more stockings on the night of the 5th and the three kings parading into town on their camels on the 6th! My decorations will come down after that.

Applesaregreenandred · 03/01/2019 20:38

Mine will be coming down Sunday. Never sure whether 12th night is the 5th or 6th but I'll want to go it at weekend. I don't really start celebrating Christmas until s couple of days before and like it to be Christmassy until 12th night but think I'm in minority now.

ladymariner · 03/01/2019 21:28

Where are you, recently?? I'm assuming not Rochdale or Hull.....Grin

BlackBeltInPresentWrapping · 03/01/2019 22:41
Xmas Shock

I'm pretty sure that camels and Kings are just as big in Rochdale and Hull as anywhere else, lady.

Xmas Wink
MissMarplesKnitting · 03/01/2019 22:45

I've done our decorations today, as we are busy at weekend.

House feels bigger....but oh dear god, filthy. I cleaned really well before we put them up, and did hoover etc as best I could but there's glitter EVERYWHERE with the packing up and the dust and mess is making me feel icky. Once I've gutted it tomorrow it'll feel better.

ladymariner · 03/01/2019 23:14

I'm sure they are, Blackbelt but recently says the kings are parading into town on camels and during my many forays into Hull I've never witnessed that!!

Disclaimer...I love Hull (especially the Empress! Xmas Wink ) apologies if I've upset anyone, it was meant to be a joke!
