Explain something about Zombies to me.....

PoohBearsHole · 02/01/2019 13:30

So there is something I don’t get about all zombie movies/tv shows etc and it’s been puzzling me for ages.

Bear with as it might be more than one thing Grin

  1. Zombies eat humans, humans when bitten turn into zombies and yet in all portrayals on any media zombies are eating dead bodies. Technically this wouldn’t be possible as the deceased human would have turned or would turn whilst being nibbled upon.
  1. Zombies can’t swim so it would be very difficult for continent to continent infection unless airborne. But it appears infection is spread via biting
  1. If zombies need to eat people to survive how come when the food source is scarce they don’t seem to wither but remain animated (looking at you walking dead)

I am not overly invested I’m just watching the Charlie B Dead Set on Netflix 😂 I do know that zombies aren’t real —but that’s not going to stop me from keeping Tina in the larder or the knives sharp— yet I am still bewildered by the stupidity of survivors.

Where am I going wrong?

What’s Charlie B Dead? I can’t find it on Netflix or even on Google.

  1. Turning isn't instant. So if the Zombie is eating you, you won't necessarily turn (although that was always something that bugged me about TWD, because everyone who is killed turns, not just those bitten).
  1. Zombies could walk on the bottom of the ocean - they don't need to breathe.
  1. Yeah they just wither, but don't die unless their brain is destroyed. They don't need to eat, they just want to (hence one scene I saw when the human meat swallowed was falling out of the bottom of the ribcage )
StealthPolarBear · 02/01/2019 13:36

Poor tina

They only eat the dead who haven't yet turned. They need to be fairly quick off the mark but they seem to do ok with their food supply.

2. Zombies can’t swim so it would be very difficult for continent to continent infection unless airborne. But it appears infection is spread via biting

As TWD/Dr Jenner showed us in S1?2?...it's not transmitted by biting. We are ALL ZOMBIES (in waiting). rememebr that amazing OHMIGOD moment when Rick said the immortal line - "we're all the walking dead"?

3. If zombies need to eat people to survive how come when the food source is scarce they don’t seem to wither but remain animated (looking at you walking dead)

I think the decomposition rate is slowed right down. They do seem to wither (rot?) ver time, but they just drag along until their feet fall off and then the shuffle on stumps or whatever.

Nonsense re. "too much time on your hands" - these are important questions.

JeffJarrett · 02/01/2019 13:37

OP means Charlie Brooker's Dead Set.

I think they go into a state of semi hibernation when they can't get food, from the walking dead comics at least..

Blueemeraldagain · 02/01/2019 13:39

I assume zombies are eating humans that have died other ways: murdered for resources, hit by cars etc. I don’t think dead bodies turn into zombies after being bitten.

I also don’t think zombies need to eat much/at all to survive.

Dead Set was a great show! Definitely going to give than a rewatch.

PoohBearsHole · 02/01/2019 13:40

Yes too much time distracting myself from cleaning 😂

Charlie Brookers Deadset/Dead Set was on channel 4 about 10 years ago - it’s about the big brother house and an outbreak. Weirdly there appear to be many guns.

But surely the way to deal with all zombies is just knock off their heads and burn the lot? Although in TWD you just need to be scratched so that really confuses me.

OP posts:
Drogosnextwife · 02/01/2019 13:41

I think they thought of that I a few movies. It starting off as an airborne virus that eventually killed you and then you turned into a zombie without being bitten bit being bitten would also turn you (I think maybe that was in "I am legend").
The eating thing always confused me but then I don't need to eat chocolate but I hunt it out like a zombie 😂

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/01/2019 13:41

Number 2 - Most fiction has a time lapse between being bitten and turning into a zombie for victims who are not killed outright. In the early days before the outbreak is properly understood and before the connection between being bitten and turning is known there will be a lot of people flying out of the infected area which will spread the infection.

gamerchick · 02/01/2019 13:42

Technically this wouldn’t be possible as the deceased human would have turned or would turn whilst being nibbled upon

Sometimes they do. Grin

Zombies don't need to eat to survive, it's just basic instincts. They decay over time as any other dead body does.

Tbh this 4th gen of fast moving zombies gets right on my tits. Films like 28 days later are put in the zombie category when they really are not. Proper zombies are slow moving. It's got to the point with all the variations of different types nobody can tell what's supposed to be a zombie or not, the word doesn't mean much anymore.

Stick them in different categories and your head will hurt less.

gamerchick · 02/01/2019 13:45

Dead set was an awesome pisstake out of big brother and pretty much CBs opinion of the show and the people who watched it.

PoohBearsHole · 02/01/2019 13:46

I think I’ve seen too many different zombie movies/films with different premises.

Yes zombies don’t have super strength, or speed so wtf?

Surely a zombie would be easy to outrun, they start to rot and bits would fall off making them less scary with a few less body parts.

In addition you’d be able to smell them coming a mile off so probably escape them?

Next gen zombies just ruin the fun and make everything so bleak 😢

OP posts:
PoohBearsHole · 02/01/2019 13:48

@Gamerchick. Pretty much sums it up for me too 😂

Aren’t all zombie premises based on political environment at the time? Or did I get that wrong?

OP posts:
Theweasleytwins · 02/01/2019 13:52

Have you seen Z Nation? So many different types of zombies

PoohBearsHole · 02/01/2019 13:56

Now I’m going to have to 😁

OP posts:
panoramallama · 02/01/2019 13:58

Big clue to the mystery here:

They're not real

Grin
PoohBearsHole · 02/01/2019 14:06

They might not be real BUT surely you have zombie plan just in case???????? Zombies are far more likely than vampires 🤪

OP posts:
gamerchick · 02/01/2019 14:20

Well z nation started out as a pisstake of TWD. They didn't expect it to catch on, but it did Grin the absolute ridiculous of it is hilarious and it just gets better. Personally I think they're pushing it to see how far they can. Definitely worth a watch for a giggle and sticking with it. Grin

FireUnderpants · 02/01/2019 15:15
  1. According to World War Z, zombies travel on the sea bed. People eventually have jobs tracking herds of them around the oceans. In fact the outbreak starts after someone is bitten whilst diving.

Continent to continent infections are spread during the virus incubation time. People fleeing, taking infected family away for treatment and selling infected organs in the black market also spread it about.

Absolutely love the book, unlike the film which is completely different.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 02/01/2019 15:28

OP you need to get both Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z books by Max Brooks. The first is obviously totally tongue in cheek but after a while you forget it isn't real. The latter is so superior to the film frankly it's a travesty to even compare them. It's so well written almost like a collection of survivors tales from around the globe and even one set on the ISS which is really sad.

I'm a total saddo and make a point of reading them once every year Grin

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/01/2019 15:48

This is an excellent Venn diagram of the book vs the film of WWZ (apart from the errant apostrophe).
