I’ve drank like a b%$tard for a lot of 2018, going to do my first complete dry January as of tomorrow. Join me?

As it says in the title.

2018 hasn’t been kind to me, and the drink has been relied upon far too much.

I’m fed up of moping, and want to kick start a better year with my first ever complete dry January tomorrow.

Who’s in?

I think next Friday is going to be harder - the novelty will have worn off, and the temptation to fold 'because I've proved I can do it' will be considerable.

Screamqueenz · 05/01/2019 09:35

Fetches, I think you're right, but hopefully I'll be seeing some tangible health benefits which should keep me going.
Apart from support on here, does anyone have a DJ buddy irl? It's much easier for me because DH is also off the booze, so I haven't got a drinking buddy in the house.

FetchezLaVache · 05/01/2019 09:51

Yes, I'm hoping that too! I wish I could get some of that amazing quality sleep you had last night, for instance. I think my skin looks slightly less shit, but that could just be wishful thinking.

You lot are my only support, really - my DSis and DBIL do DJ every year, but they don't live nearby. DP didn't fancy it, but although he misses his drinking buddy, he's being very supportive.

I'm taking an unfiltered selfie every morning so hopefully I should be able to start seeing the results.

It really doesn't help that I'm growing a spot the size of Everest on my chin, but maybe that's the toxins coming out? Confused

ColouringPencils · 05/01/2019 12:05

I feel like my skin looks better, but I am sure that's my imagination as I regularly have 4 days a week off wine (Mon-Thurs) so this would be no different. Or it might be because I am still off work, so I have been getting loads of sleep. Anyway, might as well appreciate the benefits!

HolyMountain · 05/01/2019 12:19

I’m off to a birthday party within the next few hours. I know I’m going to be given the ‘ oh go on,just the one won’t hurt’, it’s never just the one with me though.

I’m going to stay strong, I hope.

Send me positive vibes

ColouringPencils · 05/01/2019 12:22

You can do it, Holy Mountain! The good thing about this time of year is that everyone has heard of Dry Jan. Even if they don't understand not wanting to drink, they will surely understand not wanting to give up a challenge in the first few days?

MrsCar · 05/01/2019 12:35

The only difference I've noticed so far is that I don't wake with thirst or to pee, so that's good.

Also, my grocery shopping was about £10 cheaper, which is great 👍

Good luck for the weekend everyone Brew

HolyMountain · 05/01/2019 12:42

Cheers Pencils Wink.

Screamqueenz · 05/01/2019 13:14

We've got a party tomorrow mountain, so I know how you feel.

If you explain as soon as you get there you might find that others are also doing it and get support that way?

TheNewbieStep · 05/01/2019 13:18

I'm in too - so nice to find a thread that a supportive and not full of
Judgey knobs!

Day 5 here and my god, do I feel better x

Screamqueenz · 05/01/2019 13:31

That's great newbie, I'm feeling great today, been for a walk with friends this morning, but need to occupy myself this afternoon.
Might restart the cross stitch I started 3 years ago......

MrsGrindah · 05/01/2019 13:49

I’m not feeling any different, can’t sleep and weeing all the time! Significantly richer though!

Bloodyfucksake · 05/01/2019 15:53

I'm only on day 4 and every day there is another reason to have a drink. Today we went on a long walk. We walked about 5k in one direction and ended up in the next lovely village. We sat in a lovely bar and I wanted a wine. But I had a sparkling water instead.
I've come straight home and read this thread for motivation.

Zofloramummy · 05/01/2019 16:05

I know exactly what you mean! Went out with my friends and the kids yesterday. We went to to City centre and had a wander around a museum and then the city walls. My friend then took us out for tea. I contributed a £10 off voucher as I’m absolutely skint at the moment! They ordered a cider and I ordered tonic water and lime Shock.

Starting to sleep better now but my motivation levels are in my boots.

dragongirlx · 05/01/2019 16:25

I am trying a non alcoholic red wine tonight. I am hoping it gets me over my wine craving without any of the nasty side effects. Also drinking lots of water but not sleeping great. Only day 2 for me though

Bloodyfucksake · 05/01/2019 17:40

Zofloramummy tonic water and lime - is it more exciting than sparkling water and lime Grin

MsMustDoBetter · 05/01/2019 17:40

On the Becks Blue tonight, I've got schooled of smalli jobs to do so hopefully I'll be too busy to notice that I'm not cosy on the sofa with wine and a book!

MsMustDoBetter · 05/01/2019 17:40

Schooled - a couple

namechange2117 · 05/01/2019 18:12

I drank last night, which was planned as I’m aiming to go sober four nights a week and drink in a “controlled manner” on the other three.

Unfortunately I completely messed up - I had two 125ml glasses of wine at a bar and then we went to the pub and happened to bump into friends. Two 175ml glasses of wine and the best part of a bottle of prosecco later, and I think I must have drunk about 15 units last night. Needless to say that today was a total write-off - all the stuff I was planning to do around the house went totally out of the window.

I’m drinking a smaller amount tonight then back to no drinking for Sunday to Thursday inclusive.

Feeling so annoyed with myself.

dragongirlx · 05/01/2019 18:19

The non alcoholic wine did smell like wine but tasted like fruit juice, bad fruit juice. So I have returned to water this evening. At least it was only £3.50

ncnc2019 · 05/01/2019 18:27

@dragongirlx I'm still yet to find an acceptable AF wine or beer. Most are vile.

dragongirlx · 05/01/2019 18:48

Good to know @ncnc2019 will stick to soft drinks and fizzy water and lime from now on

Zofloramummy · 05/01/2019 18:53

The last time I attempted dry January I bought alcohol free beers, wines etc. I didn’t like any of them and they made me miss the real stuff more.
I’m better with cranberry cordial and fizzy water or tonic and lime.

Screamqueenz · 05/01/2019 19:02

Loving the cranberry juice and soda water. It's not very sweet, which is what I prefer.

So, the plan tonight is watch the greatest dancer, then maybe a movie, then bed. No alarm in the morning, so hopefully another good nights sleep.

What's everyone else's plan?
