As it says in the title.

2018 hasn’t been kind to me, and the drink has been relied upon far too much.

I’m fed up of moping, and want to kick start a better year with my first ever complete dry January tomorrow.

Who’s in?

I'm very late - but can I join?! I NEED to do something about my drinking.

I drink 4 nights a week, generally a bottle of strong red and a bottle of Weston's cider (the 8.2% stuff). One night of that I will 'just' have the wine. I'm fat, tired and throwing money away. £30 a week on drink FFS!!!!

Last night I had wine and cider but decided it would be a really good idea to drink another bottle of wine as well. I feel like utter death today, complete shit and so guilty.

Can I join in??

GhostSauce · 06/01/2019 11:52

Join us Orlando.

I can easily chug a bottle of red Thursday-Sunday, I'm the same. Am also fat. Though I'm on day 5 and lost no weight despite the dry jan app saying I've saved 2600 calories!

Nice to not be hungover though.

GhostSauce · 06/01/2019 11:54

@FetchezLaVache what was the Aldi AF called? I've had the rawsons retreat one and it's acceptable but still nowhere near Prosecco

@GhostSauce, it's called zeropointzero and I really hope I haven't oversold it to you! Only about three quid, but it's surprising how much more I resent the cost of soft drinks than the real thing - anyone else?

Orlandointhewilderness · 06/01/2019 11:58

Thanks. I've downloaded the app and actually done the full quiz thing and worked out units HONESTLY - oh god apparently it is 54 a week!!!! FIFTY FOUR!!!!

Pandamodium · 06/01/2019 11:58

Zoflora you can get an antihistamine OTC in the uk called Sominax/phenergen works a charm for me and I've been on strong sleeping tablets in the past.

MsMustDoBetter · 06/01/2019 13:45

Day 6 is going to be easy as I've come down with a cold. Lemsip for me, chin chin.

GhostSauce · 06/01/2019 14:16

@MsMustDoBetter Same, I'm on antibiotics. Feel so rough I couldn't touch a drink right now. Don't know whether to be grateful for being ill or not.

optionthree · 06/01/2019 16:20

Hi everyone, hope you're all enjoying the dry weekend.

@Orlandointhewilderness Welcome. I too totted up my weekly units and was horrified Blush

Day five for me, even though it seems like bloody years. Today was hard. Went out with the DCs this morning and came home to watch films...normally would've had a couple of glasses by now but have stuck to tea and Dr Pepper instead.

I feel a little lighter but surely after five days I should have dropped from a size 12/14 to at least an 8 already?!! Grin

ColouringPencils · 06/01/2019 16:23

I've got a bottle of the Aldi AF chilling in the fridge to enjoy with my roast later Smile. Fetchez, I don't resent the price but I does make me think it's mad how many glasses I drink. It really should just be a glass or two a night, not a whole bottle of fizzy pop. I need to move on from that before my teeth rot.

HolyMountain · 06/01/2019 16:44

They don’t sell the AF wine in my Aldi < mildly pissed off faceHmm>

Screamqueenz · 06/01/2019 16:52

I've done the party, over-ate loads, but stuck to soda water and had a really good time.
I need a lie down on the sofa before walking the dogs or taking the Xmas decoration down, but that's the plan for this evening.

Storybarn · 06/01/2019 17:17

@Orlandointhewilderness that's £1560 annually you spend on alcohol! (£30 x 52 wks a yr) Imagine the holiday you could go on with that! Or other expenditures or mortgage over payments that you could make. Well done for deciding to reduce your consumption.

Orlandointhewilderness · 06/01/2019 17:42

God story isn't is scary!! What a stupid, pointless waste of money.
I've got a bottle of bubble shloer (?!) stuff for tonight. No worries at all tonight as I feel so shit from last night there is no temptation!!!

fourthusernamebutwhoscounting · 06/01/2019 18:08

On DJ but tonight I could really do with a glass of wine, before hunting down school uniform etc. Doesn't help that I had a glass on NYE, and the open bottle is taunting me.... Gonna have to throw it out 😪

Screamqueenz · 06/01/2019 18:21

Fourth, I'm afraid it's unlikely to last until the first Feb in a drinkable condition if it's open, so you may as well chuck it now.

Screamqueenz · 06/01/2019 18:22

I know it feel like a waste, but it's better for your health.

Thank god the days of hunting for uniforms are over here, end of holidays is always stressful isn't it? Thanks

Zofloramummy · 06/01/2019 18:35

Can you freeze the wine in ice cubes? Not sure if it works for fizzy wine, but if it does you could then use it in Prosecco mousse, puddings etc?

GirlFliesHome · 06/01/2019 19:01

I soend £65 a week on booze. That;s over £3 k a year. That's a decent holiday too.

My bets friend gave up alcohol about 18 months ago. She put her not-drinking money into a separate account and took her DCs to Lapland to meet Father Christmas with it. I feel very inspired by that.

GirlFliesHome · 06/01/2019 19:02

*best

*spend

My keyboard is sticking thanks to DS1 dropping his honey toast on it this morning.

Screamqueenz · 06/01/2019 19:18

Oh girl that's hugely motivating, I dread to think what DH and I spend in a year.

Just checked, it's a minimum of £2,500, that would be a very nice holiday!

Zofloramummy · 06/01/2019 19:58

Just checked mine and I spend £1,500 per year Shock

Totorosfluffytummy · 06/01/2019 20:29

Uniforms & packed lunches done and I don't even feel like a drink.
Have just had some ginger nuts though.

Worked out I spend approx £1300 a year on drinks (excluding Christmas) and I rarely go out Blush

GhostSauce · 06/01/2019 20:41

I've made the mistake of watching The Sopranos from the start again as I was out of box sets to watch while I'm ill, and in almost every bloody scene there's a bottle of red wine in shot. Aaaaarrgh.

This happened to me with Mad Men too. I'd be watching it then suddenly fancy a whisky in the middle of the afternoon.

optionthree · 06/01/2019 20:49

Mine's about £1,300 a year Blush
