Right, why the everloving FUCK have am I bleeding ALL the time? TMI warning.

EmiliaFart · 30/12/2018 18:52

Am so so worried at the minute 😞.

Am 38. Have been taken Yasmin for years without issue. Only ever bled in my pill free week and it was always 'normal' in length and heaviness.

Some fibroids observed at scan with DS2 but nothing needed to be done.

For the last 4+ months I've been bleeding all over the place (figuratively and literally!).

The bleeding is period-like in behaviour. Starts off with because flow of fresh blood (clots etc dripping on floor) then changes to less, older blood then trails off. This can happen over the course of a few days then half a day with nothing then it starts again. Sometimes it goes from fresh blood to old blood to stopped over the course of just one day. It's more frequent than ever now with a day being the longest I'm going without any bleeding of any kind.

Am constantly bloated and sore. Have been using tampons so much it's made me sore. Am also knackered.

No weight loss. The opposite if anything.

Have kept taking the pill as didn't want to not be protected on the now rare occasions DP and I do try and have sex. Oh and sex seems to make me bleed when I'm not beforehand.

Stopped bleeding last night before bed. It just started again super suddenly and heavily. Am in tears and really quite worried now.

Have a GP appt on Wed. Should I be asking for anything in particular? New birth control? Any investigations?

Has anyone experienced similar or can advise?

Cake for anyone who's made it this far.

Stay off Google.

Going to see your GP is a good thing - maybe write down all of your symptoms, and record of days bleeding / tampons used so doc can get an idea of volumes.

Given that you have fibroids definitely push to have them looked at as well

rockofages · 30/12/2018 18:57

Glad you have appointment booked - I’m no expert but this definitely needs investigating. I’m sure the doc will have good advice and organise tests.

LoudestRoar · 30/12/2018 18:57

I had this. It was an ectopic cervix, which basically means that some of my wall had worn away, and was being jogged, hence the bleeding.

I had to have it cauterised to stop it .
Try not to panic, GP is the best step.

Agree don’t google. Insist you get referred on for a gynecology check up. It could be perimenopause or your fibroids. But you really need a professional opinion.

RatRolyPoly · 30/12/2018 19:01

I'm in exactly the same position OP, I could have written your list of symptoms. Except I thought mine was a result of either the copper coil, anti-depressants or both, and only recently have I started to actually become quite worried.

I'm planning to try and get an "on the day" appointment with my GP, perhaps tomorrow if I can. Good luck, I'm right there with you!

Sarahandduck18 · 30/12/2018 19:02

You need a referral to a gynaecologist ASAP.

It is much more likely to be fibroids than anything else but could be very serious so it needs full investigation quickly.

Do you have other symptoms such as pain during/after sex/bloating/lethargy?

Have you ever manually checked your cervix?

Vynolo · 30/12/2018 19:02

Having the exact same, but the blood is always bright red, sometimes have a couple of days of none bleeding but also like you feel bloated and tired. Been waiting on a gyno appointment for a couple of months now, had an ultrasound and nothing unusual came up.
Doctor seems baffled but not overly worried and she took my bloods to check if I was anemic or not.

Wowserme · 30/12/2018 19:03

Fibroids cause excessive bleeding x

blueskiesandforests · 30/12/2018 19:04

Definitely good that you're seeing the GP. Don't be fobbed off and accept being told it's your age!

I had the same at 37 and that was the initial response I received!

I'd been on the pill for a 20 year span with a cumulative total of about 6 years off TTC, pregnancy and and breastfeeding with no obvious side effects, but I'm sure now that's what it was.

In the end I stopped all hormonal contraception and was back to regular periods and no problems after about 5 months. I'm 44 now and my periods are getting heavier but are still fairly much 28 days apart and last 5 days - the constant bleeding wasn't my age!

EmiliaFart · 30/12/2018 19:06

Thanks all.

Don't worry, am staying well away from Google. Am enough of a neurotic mess without it.

Rat I made the appointment a few weeks ago at DP's behest fully believing I wouldn't need it as was convinced things would sort themselves out. Everything has become infinitely worse instead. I'm sorry you're going through the same thing but it's reassuring to know I'm not alone Flowers.

Will definitely update on Wednesday.

Sarahandduck

I did feel pain yesterday morning when DP and I had sex. He thrust at one point and it made me cry out/call halt to proceedings.

I feel constantly crampy and bloated in a low-level period way but nothing too severe.

I've always been a lazy cow who loved a nap but I've been falling asleep mid-afternoon and it's the really heavy, drooling on yourself, completely out of it asleep as opposed to a light nap. I put it down to having started a new job with long hours but not sure now.

JamAtkins · 30/12/2018 19:12

I had awful heavy bleeding and my periods got so long and so close together that I was 2 weeks on, one week off. I had one fibroid but the gynaecologist said she couldn’t say if that was the problem or if it was hormonal or ‘unexplained ‘. I elected for endometrial ablation so no periods at all now.
In terms of tests I had an ultrasound and a endometrial biopsy

blueskiesandforests · 30/12/2018 19:13

EmiliaFart you'll probably be anemic due to the blood loss, which will be making you tired.

EmiliaFart · 30/12/2018 19:13

blueskies I really want to come off contraception completely and let my body just chill the fuck out.

But am also worried that something more sinister is at play.

blueskiesandforests · 30/12/2018 19:20

Yep definitely get checked out and dont be fobbed off by a GP who thinks you're being a silly little middle aged woman and should suck it up (some of those GPs are women ironically) - if your GP is unhelpful push for a referral absolutely.

Many medical professionals will push you to stay on the pill though and will minimise the chance of side effects. The financial cost of an unwanted pregnancy being higher than that of you being miserable, run down, tired and bleeding everywhere... Side effects of hormonal contraception are rarely recorded and are supposedly worth putting up with because pregnancy and childbirth are worse... Sad

45andahalf · 30/12/2018 19:20

They’ll almost certainly send you for an ultrasound. Lush for this if they don’t suggest it. I’d guess the fibroids have got worse.

My periods have have been le over the place since I came off the pill 18 months ago. After one month long period, I went to the GP and they’d sent me for an ultrasound within 10 days. There was nothing amiss so they’re just assuming it’s perimenopause starting up.

Betsy86 · 30/12/2018 19:20

I had this a few months ago it dragged on for ages i did think it was my fibroids but they seemed to have dissapeared when i finally had a scan to check (which took ages to come through) the gp gave me northisterone tablets to take which stopped the bleeding took those for a week I believe and then once i stopped i had a normal short period then body seemed to reset itself.
She said sometimes it can just be a hormone imbalance which the tablets helped to reset. So far since it seems to be ok periods can be early/late by a few days but only last around 5 days.
So try not to panic to much op there can be various reasons for it happening that can be solved quite simply.
P.s i was also quite sore but think that was from the constant bleeding and sanitary use etc xx

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 30/12/2018 19:21

The tiredness makes me think that the bleeding has made you anaemic. This happened to me, make sure that the gp sends you for a blood test and be prepared that,if your iron levels are very low, they may give you a blood transfusion. Just mentioning this because when it happened to me, I was completely unprepared.

EmiliaFart · 30/12/2018 19:52

Can I ask the GP for a gynae referral during the appt or do I just wait and see what they say?

I don't want to be rude/pushy but am also very conscious that what is happening is really not normal for my body and I won't accept being told it's nothing to worry about.

OP posts:
JamAtkins · 30/12/2018 20:01

I got a gynea referral after the ultrasound. I guess the gynacolgist would need the ultrasound results before she could do anything. The ultrasound referral was through my gp

Heifer · 30/12/2018 21:12

I had the same myself - went to docs, had blood tests and scan etc. Told all ok, just fibroids which I had for years. Was put on some medication beginning with T (can't remember) but I found it made me feel odd and raised heartbeat so stopped using it.
Things got worse, was literally bleeding for 3 weeks out of 4. And sometimes very heavy flooding. I discovered by accident that it I took a Nurofen in the morning of first day of flooding (big blood clots) that it eased, and became normal lighter bleeding.

12 months later and things have settled down much more. I still get blood clots and heavy periods but now have much longer between bleeds - although I think giving up hockey has also helped as I found that after I played (GK so lots of stretching) I bleed for a long time afterwards. I haven't played at all this season and things are so much more manageable. It's nice to get some non bleed time back - although still feel knackered. I'm 50 and am sure I m perimenopausal.

EmiliaFart · 02/01/2019 08:43

Just back from docs.

Have another appointment booked for an examination in two weeks.

GP seemed to lean towards the bleeding being caused by the pill, talked about the unsuitability of Yasmin for women as they get older and has suggested the implant or the coil (also minipill which I've tried before and the side effects were horrendous).

I've been averse to both of these in the past but don't really see another alternative now.

He advised that I keep taking Yasmin for now which I really really don't want to do.

He did also mention cervical ectropion being a possibility so will see what the examination reveals.

Blah.

Please don't worry. I had this for a year and nearly fainted at work due to the amount of blood loss (take iron tablets!).

My GP was awful and laughed in my face when I explained what was happening but I got tough and told him to refer me.

They did scans, found a couple of fibroids but said they weren't the issue?! I went private and my gynaecologist said that it was a small fibroid but located in a place that was causing the excessive bleeding. He whipped it out, put in a mirena coil and I haven't bled since!

BTWifiwithFON · 02/01/2019 10:02

Ask to be referred for a hysteroscopy. I don’t want to be alarmist and worry you but I bled between periods/constantly and it was linked to ovarian cancer and caught very early. It probably is fibroid related and I don’t want to frighten you but it’s worth having this done x

45andahalf · 06/01/2019 18:27

I had ectropian, diagnosed after a colposcopy following post-sex bleeding about 7 years ago, and they said it was probably due to the combined pill. I swapped to the mini pill and it resolved itself (or at least wasn’t there when I had my last smear). Fingers crossed it’s just something like that.
