Would you recommend your sofa?

Trying to buy new furniture, waah!!

I thought we'd struck gold going into a new Natuzzi store. Lots of choice for us, sofas appeared to be decent quality, if a little on the expensive side but you get what you pay for, right?

Came home and now see that reviews for them are not so great, quality is similar to DFS/SCS allegedly. Sad

Purposefully avoided Sofology as not heard great things about them either. However, trustpilot gives them a very good rating.
Is it all just the luck of the draw?

Our current sofa came from Harveys which has lasted a good 15 years and pretty solid pummelling from dogs/kids. It would probably do a few more but we are moving and would like nice, shiny new things!

Where did you buy you sofas and would you recommend them?

"Don't go with next. That's what we have - they're really really poor quality"

Agreed. We got our Next Garda sofas only 5 years ago. The cushions have sagged really badly, and keeping them clean has been a nightmare. Any spills that I have wiped up have resulted in the dye coming off the fabric. Next still do these sofas, but when I contacted them to ask whether I could just buy replacement cushions and cushion covers they were useless.

We’ve had our leather corner sofa from sofology for a couple of years and still like new

Chocolate1984 · 29/12/2018 09:34

Modern M&S sofas are awful. Friends 18 year old M&S sofa in better condition than my 3 year old one. The stuffing they use is completely useless causing the back cushions to collapse to half their size exposing the frame every time someone sits on them or even sits near them.

M&S send an independent company to asses the sofa, weigh the cushions but as the cushions show no loss of weight they aren't faulty. The problem is the product they use, not that it's miraculously evaporating. My complaint was that I had to fluff my cushion every time someone sat meaning the sofa always looked awful but I was told the label says requires regular reshaping & that covers everything from every 5 minutes to every 3 months. Calling customer service the manager said as my sofa was 3 years old there was nothing they could do and then repeated "I know you're not happy but there is nothing we can do" to everything I said. I said to him you're not listening to anything I say & he replied "I know you're not happy but there is nothing we can do".

Agree with Chocolate. Our M+S leather sofa is awful. Again their expert said there is nothing wrong with it. It looks years old but is less than 3.

Melstarrynight · 29/12/2018 10:19

We are just considering changing our habitat sofa after 10 years and it wore really well. We have had an ikea sofa for 2 years now also and it still looks new.

RedRobin87 · 29/12/2018 10:20

Our sofa and recliner are Natuzzi and both excellent quality.

We have had the usual DFS, Harvey's, etc before but the Natuzzi seem far superior in quality and design. However, like you said they are more expensive but I figured that they should last longer.

mysteryfairy · 29/12/2018 10:29

We have a variety of sofa.com sofas in different rooms - recommend them unreservedly.

Mewe · 29/12/2018 10:33

I am agreeing with the Next comments. Ours are 2 years old and have rips all on the backs of the cushions. Poor quality.

Burlea · 29/12/2018 10:45

We are now on our 2nd DFS leather sofa. The first one was cream and after 6 years our dog ripped the arm. I phoned DFS up and asked about repair which they did free of charge even though it was out of guarantee. They had to send to Italy for the same leather. Our son took it to his new home and it's still very comfortable.
The second dark brown is now 4 years old and it's still in very good condition and very comfortable.

Magicstar1 · 29/12/2018 10:46

Mine is from Ikea...it’s a Tidafors corner sofa. It’s great and after 2 years everyone still comments on how lovely it is and how comfy.

LowbrowVictoriana · 29/12/2018 10:53

I have two IKEA leather sofas that are now around 12 years old. They are fab. I have messy children and dogs and a quick wipe down sorts them out. Got them made to order in a deep red colour. Very groovy.

HarrySnotter · 29/12/2018 10:59

Our DFS one is almost 13 years old and only just starting to look knackered. It was about £1000 when we got it so not very expensive for a 4 piece suite and it was supposed to 'do until the DC's were older'. They were 3 and 6 months when we got it so 13 years of DC's/dogs and various other creatures later and we've had to accept we need a new one. I don't think we'll find anything as comfortable and feel very attached to this one!

blibblibs · 29/12/2018 11:01

We have two sofas from Nabru. I was a bit worried a flat pack sofa would be rubbish but after attempting to get two different sofas in the house and failing we had no choice.
But I love them, easy to build, solid, comfy and big enough for DH who is over 6ft to lie on. And very reasonably priced, we got both sofas for under £700.
Highly recommended.

Oblomov18 · 29/12/2018 11:01

Ours is awful. Bought it new. Uncomfortable and I hate it. Didn't realise how awful it was until we'd had it for a bit.

Bloke who came round to pad up Dh's cushion bit, said that most he sees these days are do badly made its shocking.

adaisy1394 · 29/12/2018 11:02

Ours is Next and was kindly given to us by a friend after she’d had it only 3 years, I would absolutely not reccomend next! She doesn’t even have kids and actually lives alone but it’s totally sunken and battered. We don’t mind, it’s comfy and it was free but if I’d paid for it I’d be furious it look a more like 20 years old to be honest!

We’d love a new one but just can’t justify it, it’s functional enough for us!

RockinRobinTweets · 29/12/2018 11:04

I would, yes. 5 years old and still look new

m.dfs.co.uk/gower/gow14sgow

They come in leather too

HarrySnotter · 29/12/2018 11:07

The one thing I would specify when we get a new one is that it won't have thin legs as such. I think the ones with the short squat legs are less likely to break.

Oldraver · 29/12/2018 11:07

I know this is unpopular on MN but I am my second DFS sofa.

First one had started to sag in the middle about 8 or so years in. Fabric was still sound though the piping had frayed.

Current one in 12 years old in February. Red Aniline leather bought as I had a toddler and wanted something thta looked lived in and wouldn't looked toddler trashed (though toddler never allowed to jump etc, I just wanted something that would go with any spills etc.

It's still fine, I'm not sure you would know it's a 12 year old sofa. Leather on the cushions could do with a retouching the colour.

I used to work for a really top end company and while their sofas cost in excess of £k and upwards and do last. I feel as though I have had my moneys worth out of mine.

I also didnt go with the buy no pay later over four years thing. I decided what I could afford each month and they tailored my payments...so I started paying immediatly over 2.5 years

Aaaahfuck · 29/12/2018 11:07

We've had the ikea karlstad sofa for around 8 years moved 3 times with it. Still going strong! When we lived in a flat it also doubled up as a good size single bed when you take the back cushions off. It also provides a generous amount of room for three people or four at a squeeze.

Oldraver · 29/12/2018 11:08

£3K SOFAS...

ifoundthebread · 29/12/2018 11:11

Mine is from sofology. Giant corner piece with added chaise. Cant fault material but that's about it. No added support under 'long corner' section resulting in a dip from the off, had an 'engineer' out who said it was just a poor design as it's a very deep wide section. not a fault so nothing they could do, so now stuck paying for a £2.5k sofa with a poor design, looks like shit after 2 years.

HarrySnotter · 29/12/2018 11:11

I'll def go to DFS again *Oldraver. This one has lasted so well and DH had his first one for 15 years before this one.

WhoNose88 · 29/12/2018 11:19

I'm looking to get a sofa soon too, so reading with interest. Had one of these discussions on a local FB page recently too and sofa.com was highly rated, but it's hardly mentioned here. I will try looking up Nabru and sofsofa though.

NigelGresley · 29/12/2018 11:25

The problem with sofas now is that it’s very difficult to find one where the cushions are not made of foam. Our sofa is early 20 years old and although the fabric is worn the structure is great and the cushions don’t sag - it’s a solid hardwood frame with feather filled cushions.
It doesn’t really fit in our current house, but I’m reluctant to replace it because newer sofas are so much poorer quality and construction.

InspirationUnavailable · 29/12/2018 11:33

Ours is Sofa Workshop and is brilliant quality. It was on the pricey side but I’m hopeful it will last well (it’s still relatively new). Prior to that we had an ikea sofa for years but when we were replacing it recently the quality didn’t seem as good as 15 years ago. Also heard good things about sofa.com as pp mentioned.
