So have unplugged everything so not overloaded. Tried appliance by appliance but still tripping. An electrian friend has been out quick this morn but cant see whats wrong.

I have Briyish Gas Homecare cover and plumbing and electric is with EOn. Just wondering if electrics are covered by any of it?

Did you not just say eon covers electrics?

Overseasmom100 · 27/12/2018 12:57

My electricty provider is Eon

Do you have solar panels? We had the same problem, turns out water had gotten into the system somehow and the panels were tripping.

FreckledLeopard · 27/12/2018 13:04

Unless you have some kind of electricity cover included (which seems unlikely - I've never heard of that being offered), then you'll just have to pay for an electrician to come out and sort the problem. We had a similar thing a few years ago - didn't seem to be linked to any appliance. Turns out it was a fault in the wiring in the living room which the electrician sorted out for about £140 or so IIRC.

dementedpixie · 27/12/2018 13:04

My British gas homecare covers plumbing and drains and electrics but it depends which particular cover you have opted for

Overseasmom100 · 27/12/2018 13:09

Right Ive switched everything off cooker fridge freezer, tv, emersion, washer, tv didnt do all before so nowthe whole lot. Not tripped so will switch one on one by one....fingers crossed for me to find the faulty bugger!

If you have electrics covered as homecare call them. I had it and they found out one of the sockets in the kitchen was live. They put a do not use sticker on it then replaced it a few days later.

FloofyDoof · 27/12/2018 13:15

Mine was doing the same thing, turned out to be the element on the water heater, so we are currently without hot water until the new part arrives with the maintenance company, whenever that might be. Boiling water for strip washes in the morning and taking trips to the local leisure centre for showers for us at the moment. Nightmare.
I hope whatever yours is it's an easy fix.

Overseasmom100 · 27/12/2018 13:18

So have put on the following and nothing tripped...

Washer, freezer, oven, kitchen sockets, kettle, fridge, emersion

Will now try the lounge

I don’t know if this helps but I had similar had to actually unplug each item when I thought turning off would do. Turned out it was tumble dryer

safariboot · 27/12/2018 15:32

It could be an intermittent appliance fault, for example in the defrost phase on the freezer or something like that. I would try leaving everything non-essential unplugged for as long as possible.

Or water leaking into just about anywhere.

Or even a faulty breaker.

allyouneedis · 27/12/2018 15:33

I was going to say tumble dryer too as mines over heated and tripped the power?

Overseasmom100 · 27/12/2018 15:36

Unplug rather than just switching off???
There is nothing in the freezer and fridge now so could leave them off

bananamonkey · 27/12/2018 15:43

This happened to us and it was the oven, the element had gone but it didn’t do it every time we used it and only happened when it was cooling down so took a while to isolate the cause 🤷🏻‍♀️

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 27/12/2018 15:48

I added electric cover to my homecare in your situation, they fixed at no extra cost beyond the increased direct debit.

Overseasmom100 · 27/12/2018 17:37

Arhhhhh so after 2 hours it's tripped again. Ive switched off the fridge and freezer thinking it could be them but it's tripped again ... it's the big fuse.

Oh that's interesting so if I call up BGas and tell them I have homecare but without electrics they might add on and send someone out?

Day 3.

Electrician coming today to have a look.

Such a mystery. Tried everything yesterday. It's the big fuse that is tripping so must be a big appliance? Oven cooled down nothing happened. Fridge and freezer switched off now as nothing in them. Kept tripping after an hour to 2 hours last night but nothing on apart from tv, hive heating, internet box/virginmedia etc.

So let's see what day 3 brings Angry

Ours did something similar. Was the heating bit in the oven.

gamerwidow · 28/12/2018 09:33

It might not be an appliance our switches used to trip all the time. It turned out to be a random loose live cable which has been left flapping about in the chimney breast. You need an electrician to come round and check every socket and wire unfortunately to find out where the problem is.
Fortunately my DF is MR DIY and was able to locate the problem but he has to pull up all the upstairs carpet to track the problem to the errant wire.

Overseasmom100 · 28/12/2018 10:14

It's tripping every hour now from 8am, 9am and just now. Electrician is a friend should be here at 11am. God I hope we get to yjd bottom of it, making me feel upset now

OP posts:
Overseasmom100 · 28/12/2018 10:17

All we've got on is the tv, internet tivo box that's it and heating

LutherRalph1 · 28/12/2018 10:19

We had a frayed/ melted wire under our floorboards ( very dangerous) and this used to trip without rhyme or reason - would go
20 times in one day, then not again for weeks
