Ours is coming down tomorrow, we're decorating the room it's in otherwise would probably stay up until new year's day.

Peanutbutterjar · 27/12/2018 14:54

Ours never went up. Whilst our house is not tiny, it’s is awkwardly configured so the only way we could fit the tree in would be to relocate the living room furniture somewhere. Went for lots of fairy lights instead, and strung up a length of string to hang a few of the Christmas tree decorations. ( we have a tree from our old flat, which, whilst even tinier had a small alcove in the living room perfect for the tree to fit!)

I love the lights, they may stay up all winter.

My dcs have been awful all year. I lost count of how many times ds2 (11) kicked me in the stomach on holiday and how often I've been screamed at and hurt by ds1 's (14) aggression. Even ds2 has started screaming at me if something doesn't go his way. I don't celebrate my birthday because I have bad memories from my abusive parents. The only meal I look forward to is Boxing Day lunch. They couldn't even sit down for the meal without storming off, shouting, screaming and being nasty each other.
I've done so much therapy with them we were really hoping this holiday would be different. I've taken the decorations down as what's the point of pretending that we're having a good time? I've cleaned. Dh is now not talking to anyone. The dcs still aren't sure what the problem is even though I've explained it to them. They just couldn't give a shit about anyone's feelings apart from their own. I can't see dh will stay much longer as he's said that he can't deal with the family we've become and that we're not a family. He says he's not leaving but why would he stay? Every day is a nightmare. I wake up with hope that today will be different. It never is. Dh has so much more going for him than me. He is young enough he could start again with someone else and have the family he wants. I'm too old to have more dcs. And I'm ds1's carer so I have to stay. I'm just broken again.

Up until 2nd Jan here.
Can't have Hogmanay party without the tree.

OnlyTheDepthVaries · 27/12/2018 15:05

I haven't put mine up yet!

Tippexy · 27/12/2018 15:05

I think that’s really joyless! Sad

HolyMountain · 27/12/2018 15:08

I don’t go back to work til January 8th so they’ll come down 5th or 6th.

SarahET · 27/12/2018 15:10

Mine too! I'm always glad to get them down, bit too cluttered with them up.

OrcinusOrca · 27/12/2018 15:11

What do you all count as Twelfth night? 5th or 6th?

CookPassBabtridge · 27/12/2018 15:24

New Years day for me.. I think festive period lasts until then and then it's nice to have a new years day fresh clean.

Teddy1970 · 27/12/2018 15:27

My tree goes up 1st December and comes down 2nd of 3rd of January..

IceBearRocks · 27/12/2018 15:34

Funnily enough I've just commented on Facebook!! All the November decorators are taking them down! They never get to enjoy them at Christmas!!

Jiminybikkit · 27/12/2018 15:44

My tree is staying up until Saturday, but all the other decorations, cards etc came down today.

Norovirus hit us on Christmas day. DH is still in bed. Suspect he is malingering at this stage, as he was last sick on boxing day morning.

I just wanted to disinfect everything, frankly. Bloody shambles of a Christmas. Usually I take everything down on December 31st as I like starting the new year fresh, but I'm begrudging the tree staying up even until Saturday. Can't wait to get the space back, especially now baby DD is rolling and we need more space for her playmat and toys.

crimsonlake · 27/12/2018 15:47

It is quite ridiculous but totally expected that some of the trees are coming down already and it is still Christmas. By mid November we had the ' is your tree up yet? ' and now the predictable ' it's down by Boxing day ' I find it all rather sad.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 27/12/2018 15:47

My tree and inside decorations will come down on the 5th/6th January. We may start on the outside ones this weekend as we do have a lot to get down and put away. They went up the first and second weekends of advent.

ThankGodItsThursday · 27/12/2018 15:56

I'll take the tree down tomorrow but I've taken down the cards and other decorations this afternoon.

I put it up on Saturday 15th and two weeks is plenty long enough for me.

I can't think of anything worse than being back at work with the tree still up.

SarahET · 27/12/2018 15:57

Haha people are sad that people they don't know have taken their decisions down!

SarahET · 27/12/2018 15:57

*decorations

rabbitfoodadvocate · 27/12/2018 16:04

Me too! All gone and feeling excellent!!

yummychocolate · 27/12/2018 16:05

Mine came down today. Given I am 39 weeks pregnant I thought it was wise to take it down before baby came otherwise, it would stay up for a few more weeks months.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 27/12/2018 16:16

Yummy that's understandable though. In ypur position I'd probably do the same.

Mine went up on the 15th Dec & I'll take then down on 5th Jan. My wedding anniversary is 4th Jan & I like having the lights on & decs up for it.

Teseri · 27/12/2018 16:18

Mine came down yesterday, always has done, prefer to get rid of the clutter after Christmas and have house back to normal for the new year. I get time off work before Christmas, but none afterwards, was working Christmas night, so for me, my celebrations and Christmasy time is the weeks prior to Christmas day.

HugoBearsMummy · 27/12/2018 16:20

Yep took it down yesterday. Earlier than usual but we're renovating and have minimal space so needed to de clutter before organising new toys in to a new ikea storage unit. Feel soooo much better. Outside lights still up and on though...

BigusBumus · 27/12/2018 16:22

I did mine earlier today. House looks weirdly bare, but I am relieved to have Christmas out of the way and over and done with.

Foxywoody · 27/12/2018 16:25

Ours came down today. House is now glitter free but the car is a different story!
