What age would you let your child watch a 15 film?

A reasonably violent/gory one? We have guests staying and they have put one on for their 7 yr old , feels a bit too young? Mine are younger so I am wondering if this is what they will expect to watch at that age?

14 depending on the child.

... 15! (?)

ginghambox · 26/12/2018 20:51

Depends what the film is.

mummyhaschangedhername · 26/12/2018 20:52

Probably not but depends on a lot of things, what's the film to start with.

TeenTimesTwo · 26/12/2018 20:52

15?

A 7yr old watching a 15 rated film is inappropriate however you look at it in my book.

12yo would be the absolute minimum before I would judge.

sambasam · 26/12/2018 20:52

Ok so it seems most people would think 7 is too young! Was wondering if I was a bit out of touch

15 generally. Depends on what the rating is for, if it's for bad language alone (which I don't give a shiny shit about) then I might consider a bit younger if I feel there's merit in them watching it. Also sexual shiz is probably relativity okay. But generally stick to the guidelines as they are there for a reason. No way in hell would I let a 7yo watch one though.

Dogsmellssobadbob · 26/12/2018 20:55

16 is gory

anniehm · 26/12/2018 20:57

Depends on the film. Historically accurate movies which contain gory violence aren't the same as modern in my opinion

Fatted · 26/12/2018 20:58

Depends on the film, depends on the child really.

My parents used to let me watch 18's when I was about 10 and at the time they never bothered me. Now I'm older and watching the same films, I'm more bothered by them now and can't believe my parents let me watch them!

Whitelisbon · 26/12/2018 20:59

I tend to check and see why it's rated 15 - bad language doesn't bother me (kids hear worse in the playground!), so I'd ignore it for that. But, the guidelines are there for a reason, and I tend to follow them within reason.
My (now) 16yo has been watching some 15s since she was 12ish, but I checked each one first. On the other hand, my 12 year old hasn't watched anything older than a 12, and they're carefully vetted.

Findingdotty · 26/12/2018 21:00

15 generally but 16-17 sometimes. Depends on why it's a 15 but I generally agree with most ratings or think they should be older but never really younger.

MonkeyfaceThereturn · 26/12/2018 21:01

Are you talking about Gremlins though OP? I'd let any kid watch that Grin

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 26/12/2018 21:02

It completely depends on the film.

Figgygal · 26/12/2018 21:02

What film?

Kick ass was a 15 which was outrageously lenient

But I wouldn't let my 7yo watch a 15

Pythonesque · 26/12/2018 21:05

I agree, from about 12 I'd not object to at least some films with that rating, but it would depend.

MigGril · 26/12/2018 21:08

Err no way at 7 years not even a 12 in this house although DD has been watching some 12s since she was 10-11 depending on what the content is. We also vet films first, also I'm surprised parent's dismiss swearing so readily, at primary they generally won't come across to much in the playgroup and get told off if they do.

High school is a different kettle of fish and they are terrible. At lest now I know where all the kids are learning it from, watching films. I'm sure some parents aren't graft either.

ginghambox · 26/12/2018 21:09

Stop drip feeding what film is it?

gamerchick · 26/12/2018 21:10

What is the film?

HildegardVonBlingen · 26/12/2018 21:11

PFB: about 25.
Subsequent DC: about 6.

GreenEggsHamandChips · 26/12/2018 21:12

I wouldnt let my 12 year of watch Dark Knight but she watched the odd 15 at 10 depending on the film. None at 7

NameChanger22 · 26/12/2018 21:14

Probably 15. Some 15 rated films should be 18.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 26/12/2018 21:16

It really depends on what film.

Dirty Dancing was rated a 15 but has been rerated I think. I’d consider letting my 9yr old watch it.

I’m not overly fussy about a bit of bad language or even fantasy sort of violence (like the ending of the original Avengers where they kill the invading aliens). Person on person violence is a big no for me though.
