To think it's weird serving all drinks at room temp and no ice

Mil does this. She leaves drinks in the gaurage overnight then brings them all inside during the morning.

Then acts like I'm being crazy for wanting to but a bottle in the freezer for half an hour or asking for ice as "they've been in the guarage all night so are cold" they aren't cold at all - next to the oven and in the warm kitchen for hours.

My point was not that it was polite to serve drinks cold. My point was that it was polite to serve drinks the way that people like to drink them.

I keep fizzy drinks, sparkling water, milk & juice in the fridge.

Don't drink alcohol but I agree that white wine & lager eg should be chilled.

I buy a bag of ice for £1 every week & use it to make my favourite iced lattes as well as to put in my Coke Zero & other drinks.

Her house, her rules.

We served champagne and white wine cold this Christmas but everything else (red wine/fizzy drinks/tap water) room temperature. Frankly, when you have a houseful and there are multiple moving parts to each meal, remembering to put drinks in the fridge is way down the list.

I couldn't drink room temperature fruit juice.

Just having some ice or one chilled drink I think every host can manage. I did a Xmas dinner for 10 in a shared house with just a shelf in the fridge and managed. No excuses.

If i buy fresh OJ it goes in the fridge. If i buy the cartons that arent refrigerated they go in the cupboard until needed. Ove never had anyone ask for their drink chilled or for ice!

Maybe just different circles and expectations (We're not london for example... or in a big house. )

I feel so lucky! My MIL does not approve of Diet Coke and the like, but she knows that I drink it so they keep some in. And she knows that I like it cold, so they always have one ready in the fridge. She even got some caffeine-free ones in when I was pregnant!

I like making an effort for my in-laws and it feels good when they do the same for me.
