What comment/moment has made Christmas for you?

For me, it was 6yo DS sighing contentedly when MIL and BIL arrived 20mins after my parents stayed and saying "now everyone is here and they'll be here for ages and ages". Yes, DS, they will be here until Thursday which isn't what I'd necessarily chose but comments like that make me realise why I do chose to do Xmas like this.
And then seeing DMum and MIL, who have nothing in common, giggling together over something after a bit too much champagne before lunch. They each hosted Xmas for decades and both had elderly relatives to ferry home at the end of the day so never had the chance to have a mid-day drink so I always enjoy seeing them having fun and now make cocktails that I know they will like and may not fully explain quite how potent some of the ingredients are

DD 3yo shrieking "A TOY MOUSE" when opening her first present. It was £1.50 from Ikea but easily the most popular gift!

BishopstonFaffing · 25/12/2018 19:53

"It feels really weird. Like everything is smaller and less exciting. I think I'm growing up" 12 yr old DS1

KindergartenKop · 25/12/2018 19:56

I bought my DS a big cuddly husky and he hasn't stopped cuddling it all day. I have had to separate them to hug the boy and then the toy in turn. Now boy and toy are tucked up together in bed.

DD 8 has just been so happy all day. She was over the moon with her presents and couldn’t wait for her grandparents to arrive so she could give them the gifts she had chosen for them. Then this afternoon she was sat playing, looked at me and said “I can’t explain how chuffed I am with my stuff, thank you so much”. I think that this year - as she no longer believes- she appreciates it all more as she knows the presents are from me not Santa.

my four year old at bedtime beaming as he told us that today has been ‘the best christmas of his whole entire life.’ have to admit i filled up a little!

FleurNancy · 25/12/2018 20:11

We're in Lapland for Christmas. When the plane landed my 10 year old was so beside himself with excitement that he gave me a massive hug and said, thank you so much for taking us to Lapland mum. I cried!

Jellycatspyjamas · 25/12/2018 20:13

My 5 year old comment on opening the “family” present, “I have an Xbox in my life!” as he literally bounced with glee.

Jellycatspyjamas · 25/12/2018 20:15

Oh and my 7 year old “you’re my most favourite mum”, as an adopted child she’s had 3 other people she called mum. And yes, I did tear up - it’s been a long road getting to here.

3 year old DD saying “this is the best day ever” and “I wish it could be Christmas everyday”

GrouchyKiwi · 25/12/2018 20:19

A few moments:

DD2 (4) opening her stocking this morning and being so happy at everything that was in there.

DD3 (2) opening her stocking and saying "It's just what I wanted" at everything she took out.

DD1 (6) hugging the apron we got for her.

And everyone in the family being excited and delighted at the sight of Christmas dinner, despite the ducks we bought being off and thus the meat star being chicken thighs and drumsticks instead of beautifully plump and golden birds. It was delicious too.

Hope you've all had lovely days.

GrouchyKiwi · 25/12/2018 20:21

Jellycats That's beautiful. Flowers

I’m sick and feeling shit, my DH has done absolutely everything for two days, all I’ve been able to do is lurk on MN.

TheBaltictriangle · 25/12/2018 20:32

Not been well today and dc, who has autism, has been checking up on me all day. He bought me a blanket and glass of water to the sofa. For someone who has autism and struggles with social interaction, it's a huge progress. Made me teary.

Shortyboo · 25/12/2018 20:34

Dancing around to christmas music like lunatics in the kitchen whilst waiting for the cookies to bake.

LegoCardSwapper · 25/12/2018 20:35

A text has just popped up from my MIL's partner that I've not been able to open yet as it'll make me cry I think. The preview of the message read "thanks for all your hard work today. Your kids did you proud" sometimes a bit of acknowledgement goes a long way, especially when it comes from someone who's known for being a bit of a grumpy old misery.

Tiredemma · 25/12/2018 20:38

DD (5) proclaiming " oh I must have been a really good girl" on opening her stocking.

DS2 (15) face when he opened my gift of Ariana Grande tickets

bobstersmum · 25/12/2018 20:38

My lovely ds playing with his long awaited buzz lightyear, flying him around the room, he isn't usually very good at imaginative play, it was beautiful to watch.

calamariqueen · 25/12/2018 20:39

DD 17mo has started saying mummy today Xmas Smile

Coffeecoffeebuzzbuzzbuzz · 25/12/2018 20:40

My five year old and one year old playing with the Apple and orange from their stockings (one year old thought they were balls and older one humoured her!) very cute to watch.

CottonTailRabbit · 25/12/2018 20:40

A smile from my daughter. She looked up from her breakfast, which is normally a quiet grumpy time but looked around the room with its decorations and all the relatives squashed in and had such a happy contented smile to herself.

Elderflower14 · 25/12/2018 20:41

My son and I volunteered at a lunch for the homeless and vulnerable. DS asked in advance for donations to give dogs. A man he gave some things to said he hadnt been able to buy his dog a present and he was so grateful... ♥

bobstersmum · 25/12/2018 20:42

And opening a present from my friend this morning, which I thought was just a blank photo album, but when I opened it she had filled every page with photos of my children and family, it made me sob like you wouldn't believe, no one has ever done anything so personal for me before, ever.

Mikepemulis · 25/12/2018 20:42

My 11 Yr old ds with asc, opened his stocking in bed with his siblings this morning. He was a true believer and has just started secondary school. He looked me straight in the eye and said 'I think this is too much, thanks mum' it was like in that moment he realised all the love and care that had been put into the little presents over the years. I had a little well up
