Is it me or have Pigs in Blankets become more or a thing than in previous years?

Now I don’t eat meat, but I do remember Pigs in Blankets from the when I was young.
I’m not saying they never existed before but I have noticed a lot more references to them this year.
Pigs in Blankets flavour Pringles, foot long ones, mentioned in adverts more.

Or is this like when you learn a new word and then you suddenly see it everywhere?

A cutesy name for basically chopped up dead pig, stuff into it's own intestine, then wrapped in more of itself. I think I'll pass

There's always one, isn't there? It's like on a thread started by someone whose husband picks his nose and eats it when someone says she'd give anything to see her husband do that one more time but he's dead.

You say that like it's a bad thing vitalogy...

We often had then with roast chicken as well. They're just "sausages wrapped in bacon" though. Xmas Grin

AJPTaylor · 26/12/2018 11:43

Sausages wrapped in bacon here.

GreenDinosaur · 26/12/2018 11:46

We had them as kids in the 70s/80s but like PPs they were just sausages wrapped in bacon that my mum made rather than official pre-made "Pigs in Blankets".

Not complaining though, saves me a job making them whatever they are called! 😋

'Pigs in Blankets' does seem to have caught on lately - a bit like Prosecco, it seems to have become a 'thing' - funny how some food stuffs suddenly become popular on social media etc.

We never had them as a child and I have been vegetarian all my adult life, but I have never really heard the phrase 'pigs in blankets' until this year it seems to be everywhere - you are not the only one to notice it OP.

We started getting them when DS2 was about 7, from what I recall. He's 19 now and was faux outraged when DP put 12 in between 3 of them in the oven yesterday!GrinGrin

Schmoobarb · 26/12/2018 12:05

+I dunno but I had 36 of the little buggers in the fridge that I forgot to cook today. Cheesed off is an under statement.... 🤣*

Pigs in blanket sandwiches for brekkers!

Charley50 · 26/12/2018 12:31

lol op been thinking the same! I never had them until a couple of years ago at a buffet. Now every Xmas i hear about them non-stop.. This year I put them on my Xmas dinner for the first time!

Bowchicawowow · 26/12/2018 12:40

I have been eating them as part of Christmas dinner since the 70s. Maybe they have only caught on in some regions of the UK more recently?

You say that like it's a bad thing vitalogy… Not very appetising is it Xmas Envy

In the 1970s in our house bacon rolled up and thin sausages were served. Not the bacon wrapped round the sausages. My Grandma used to prepare them and she was previously in service and worked as a cook in a big house.

kaytee87 · 26/12/2018 12:55

We always had them, also the cheese ones Grin

XmasPostmanBos · 26/12/2018 15:44

Devils on horseback mentioned upthread is normally a bacon wrapped prune. Now that would be a bit different.

bellinisurge · 26/12/2018 17:11

Just raided my fridge for leftovers. Thanks for the reminder, op.

thisisjustdaft · 26/12/2018 17:18

When I was a kid we'd have chipolatas and separately do streaky bacon rolled up and speared with cocktail sticks.

Pigs in blankets is just the same only combined. DD1 makes ours, and we freeze them in advance.
