Have suddenly developed an allergy to my shampoo......this shampoo was chosen after the last time I was suddenly allergic to my last shampoo and was carefully researched .....it's been fine for five years and now all of a sudden I CANT STOP ITCHING MY HEAD! It's also itching my forehead and hairline and neck and chest where it runs down, it's all itchy and it's been like this for ten days.

Help! Anyone else here got an ultra sensitive scalp and found a shampoo and conditioner range that works? I have short, fine hair which is dry at the ends and goes greasy at the roots after two days.

Thank you, in desperation.

Tgel? It's very good.

DramaAlpaca · 23/12/2018 18:09

Poor you, that sounds miserable.

Have you tried Elave shampoo? I have a very sensitive scalp & find it good. I don't know if there's a conditioner though.

What do you use to wash the rest of your body? Could you use that? I’ve used soap on my hair in the past.

Stephisaur · 23/12/2018 18:17

My husban has eczema and uses the “yes to carrots” shampoo from boots.

QueenNovo · 23/12/2018 18:18

I use Simple shampoo and conditioner.

hugoagogo · 23/12/2018 18:24

allergenics works for me or waitrose pure soap as shampoo.

JuniperBeer · 23/12/2018 18:26

What is it that you’re allergic to? Sulphates? Can you be specific about the ingredient? What was in your last shampoo that isn’t in the one that’s now irritating you?

britnay · 23/12/2018 18:28

Have you tried Childs Farm? They smell lovely :)

BikeRunSki · 23/12/2018 18:28

Have you tried Green People?

Acopyofacopy · 23/12/2018 18:32

It would help if you knew what exactly you’re allergic to!

Moogoo is really good for super sensitive scalps.

blackcat86 · 23/12/2018 18:32

My daughter is prescribed a dermol 500 lotion which you can also use as a soap. You can buy it from Amazon and online pharmacies

Philip Kingsley itchy flaky scalp shampoo has been a game changer for me. I have scalp psoriasis and have tried every specialist shampoo under the sun, eventually I get immune to every one but it’s been about 3 years with Phil K and all good so far.

I know! But I don't know, I became allergic to loads of shampoo a few years ago during chemotherapy so switched to Brave botanical's nature's earth range which solved the problem. But now that's suddenly making me itch and itch, even in the middle of the night.

The trouble is that it's not just that I have an itchy scalp with the shampoo, I am suddenly allergic to something in it because where it touches my forehead when you lather it up, my forehead is itchy and red. Ditto my neck where it runs down. Grrrr

Try using 'no poo' methods.

You can wash your hair with bicarb, dilute vinegar, egg, rye flower, gelatine, porridge oats....

But have a good read up first. You need to know a little about it before you start.

MashNpeas · 23/12/2018 19:16

I get on well with the lush honey shampoo - fairly honey. Lush are good with samples so I'm sure they'd let you take away a free sample pot of it

MashNpeas · 23/12/2018 19:16

Fairly traded honey

I have a combination of random perfume allergies, psoriasis and insensitivities that aren't true allergic reactions.

Exorex is my go to shampoo when everything else is irritating.

Urtekram and Faith in Nature are good.

MattBerrysHair · 23/12/2018 19:23

I have various allergic flair ups too which come and go. As I Am coconut cream Cleanser is very gentle, as are many other cowashes (I do the curly girl method so no sulfates, silicones, parabens etc).

Childs Farm products are fantastic for my eczema and so reasonably priced.

Wolfiefan · 23/12/2018 19:24

I’m allergic to some perfume and horribly allergic to MI. I can’t find the brand you mention but maybe check if it contains MI.

MrsPnut · 23/12/2018 19:24

Ask your hairdresser for a sample of Wella elements. It doesn’t contain parabens or sulphites.

furryelephant · 23/12/2018 19:26

Beauty Kubes are great (solid shampoo cubes!) and are very kind to skin

azulmariposa · 23/12/2018 19:30

I have the same. Randomly will just become allergic to a shampoo.
Soak and float solid shampoo from lush has been really good though

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/12/2018 19:40

I have contact dermatitis so become allergic to practically everything over time. Try and find two things that don't cause the flare ups and alternate between the two of them in future, that may keep the contact element at bay.

I've had good success with low shampoo (which is basically shampoo with the consistency of conditioner) and shampoo bars. Neither have sodium laurel sulphate, which I'm allergic too.
